What do you do when you get "the look"

For us, it's only relatives who wonder why we go so often. I stopped explaining a long time ago.

Our friends always mentions how envious they are of us. Yet they have gone to Europe many times, along with Cruises, and many exotic locations.

I think that some people just can't understand going to Disney because they don't like it. And if they don't like it, it's completely incomprehensible for anyone else.

I used to get annoyed, but I completely ignore them now. Works great for me!

First I Joke that its to get aways from them. Then I just explain to them my family loves the atmosphere and we try different things besides the parks. The the conversations usually turns into them wanting to know how they could get in on it.

I know it comes up frequently, I'm sorry. I don't discuss this at work either, our children are young and I get those questions from their friend's parents... Yesterday, I got one particularly nasty look so I was a little sad

That's just sad! It is odd that parents of young ones would act this way unless they are jealous...(maybe they aren't, but I am at a loss why else they would think that way...) Those families probably spend a week in the same place year after year too - just not at Disney.

My daughters are very lucky that dh and I love Disney so much. I feel bad for their friends at times because they haven't been, but I always try to explain to my kids that families are different and spend their money differently. For example, we choose Disney over a larger home.

My colleagues (high school teachers) just think I am strange. (I do turn down the Disney background music when they come into my classroom during my prep time...).

I don't let it bother me. I know I am a Disney Freak (affectionate term my SIL uses for me.)

Meh.

Unless they are paying for my vacation, they have no say in where I'm going and how we spend our vacation dollars. We've also had people question why we were taking our kids to Hawaii or Europe on vacation. There are lots of haters out there. Our answer is that we are a family, and that's just how we roll, lol.

I have to admit that we don't discuss our Disney vacations with anyone except other Disney fans. People don't get it and most think it's for kids only and since we don't have kids, many people really think a couple in their late 50s are going senile for going to a Disney park so many times. Even those that always vacation at the beach, lake or in the mountains, do not understand that it's a similar thing.

It's something we enjoy and we'll continue to have fun and from time to time we might invite the family members that don't get it. But we've found that if they don't get the Disney Magic it's not as much fun.

I was saying it comes up often because it is something we all seem to have in common! It is very nice when you talk to someone who gets it and seems to share your enthusiasm, the trick is finding that person!

Considering that I can only imagine how fast I would make a person realize what a mistake it would be to give me a look or question my personal plans is probably why no one would dream of doing it.

ETA: That might have made me seem like a violent person. I am not but I am also not the kind of person with which most people would take the liberty of judging.

Maybe they're thinking, "Oh, so you're the reason my kid keeps nagging me to go on a vacation I don't want." If so, then their nagging kid isn't your fault.

I used to get that "look" from people at my job, now they all come to me for their Disney advice. I told them all in the very beginning, I don't tell you how to enjoy your vacation, so don't tell me how to enjoy mine.

At my DH work, they are Disney people and love to hear about our trips.

When i purchased my DVC membership 2 months ago, i couldnt wait to tell everyone i knew. I got the same question

"Does that mean you can only go to Disney?"

I would answer No we can go alot of different places BUT PROBABLY WONT!!!!!!!!!!!

Very simple response to those who ask:

Why do you go to the movies all the time? Because you enjoy it.

Or

why do you keep going back to a favorite restuarant? Becuase you love it.

So shouldn't the same thing go for your favorite vacation spot?

And really you shouldn't harp on it anyway because it may be interesting to you but it may be really boring to someone else. The world would be a better place if we didn't have to spend so much time pretending to be interested in a conversation in which we are trapped. I always try to allow the person I am talking to control the level of detail when I share a personal story that doesn't directly involve them.

That is probably why I prefer to discuss Disney related things on a message board. I can choose to read every word, skim a post, or ignore a post. I love going but Disney is a big place with loads of options to customize the vacation experience so what you may think is fun and interesting could be boring to someone else.

I suspect folks who ask the "Disney again?" sorts of questions think of it not so much as boring, but as bragging, even when that's not the intent.

This is close to what I say & add, "my parents are down there." - I think if someone wants to know more they'll start asking more, but unless they do so, I'll just try to brush it off.

Over the years I found it's not just the fact that it's Disney that gets to people, but they tend to compare the amount of time off we all get. Little to they realize that more time off = more headaches trying to catch up and keep the ducks in a row. It seems to be getting harder - maybe it's age

It could go either way. Some people would be bored to visit a single vacation destination so often. I have a friend who seldom ever repeats the same vacation and hates the idea of any amusement parks.

We are just back from a 9 weeks road trip to the West; California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Nevada. Went to 15 national parks and national monuments, seen a lot of wonderful places, including Disneyland-of course! I thought after that I would get a break but no, it is still like we are only go there and nowhere else
