What do you do about a barking dog?

We have a rain cd that i pop in every night and that way we can't hear the dogs, golf carts or buses and we sleep like babies!!

Well, the dog was at least inside last night. So that is good. Although bright and early bark bark bark. At least it's not day and night so hoping and praying that they are just weekenders. We have another 2 weeks here and that would get old.

Rudy is a great travel dog loves to go. He does not bark in the TT or MH but some time barks while he is on his chain outside. He has great hearing and will bark at strange noises. We only let him out when we are on the site and if he barks for more than 2 mins we put him back in the RV and bring him back out later. I know people don’t like to confront people with problems so just let the front desk take care of it that’s there job not yours. It could turn bad for everyone.

I agree...especially if you're there alone with your kids. See what the front desk can do for you. Although, I admit..from what others have posted it doesn't seem as if they do very much.
You may have to be persistent..and given that you're there for a while, it may be worth the effort. Good luck to you, and keep us posted. :thumbsup2

You could try barking back at it. When they complain about the noise you're making they will have made your case for you! :thumbsup2

If you notice they are gone try looking at they're pass in the window and see how long they will be your neighbor then you can decide if it's worth talking about with the front desk my guess from past experience is they will try to move you not them good luck and me and my GOOD dogs will say a prayer for you best of luck

I agree you spent way to much money to have to put up with that. We don't take our dog to Disney with us but we do take her anywhere else we camp. I make sure not to allow her to bark uncontrolably.

I would take everything to the front desk. Disney has the power to take care of the problem no you.

I just don't get some pet owners :sad2:
Not caring that the dog is barking, leaving their dogs out all day.....awful and is that really allowed? To just crate or chain your dogs up outside all day and leave them?

I absolutely adore my dog but barking is a no-no. Not only do I not want others disturbed-I don't want to hear it.

The kennel is only like $15 a day and it's really very nice. The staff are very kind to the animals and they have extra walks, treats, and cuddle time you can purchase. I wonder why more people don't use it?

There has only been one time Brownie has a barking issue while camping...when a bunch of folks tent camped behind us and were very loud and drunk until about 2AM. He was very antsy and not really barking but couldn't sleep and was doing the deep in the chest little "oof" thing. I gave him 1/2 an acepromazine and he went to sleep. Problem solved.

Ooh. Good idea. Today has been pretty good though. So crossing my fingers that he has calmed down today. :)
Hoping anyway.
Maybe traveling got him all wired up.
Maybe someone else complained. Hmm

Outside the camper when you're not their (tied or crated) is totally against the rules, but I've seen it over and over and Disney does nothing about it.

Last year we had neighbors in a popup with 2 dogs (already against the rules) and they crated the dogs outside when they were gone during the day AND at night to sleep. The dogs barked a few times in the middle of the night (probably at a bunny or armadillo). They were pretty quiet during the day, but still... :sad2:

One time a Disney truck pulled up, the guy got out and actually walked over into the site (the people were gone, dogs were crated outside). Clearly he saw them, but apparently nothing happened because they were there a few more days and nothing changed.

Another time we had a popup next to us with a dog that they left loose in their add-a-room while they were gone! Really nice dog, never made a peep and never tried to escape amazingly, but again... totally against the rules and again Disney did nothing.

The only case I know of where Disney said something happened to people we know about 4 years ago. They had tied their German Shepherd outside the MH while they were out. Apparently he never made a peep, but someone saw this huge dog "sitting guard" over his MH and reported them. They came back to a note on the MH that the dog had to be IN the MH or kenneled.

Ironically, this dog was the biggest baby on the planet (and about 11 years old) - but yeah, they were breaking the rules too and that one time Disney said something.

It would just never occur to me to do that. That makes me so sad for the dogs. What if something happened to them? I just don't like the idea of a pet being crated or chained without someone there....they must be so unhappy like that. We take our dog in the pop up but not only is it against the rules to leave them alone in the pop up...the more I think about it, the more I just don't think it's safe.

I know Brownie is too laid back to ever try to get out but what if he did? What if that one time I left him there...he tried to get out, or fell out of the canvas? At least a pet could just walk out of a tent but in a pop up they could fall and get caught in the bungees....I just don't even want to think about what could happen.

Why do you think people don't use the kennel? They're very nice and it doesn't cost that much. I don't get it. I would rather pay $15-$25 a day for day care and know that he is safe, will get treats/walks/extra cuddle time, and I can stop and see him during the day and take him for a walk.

I would probably leave Brownie alone in the camper van for a quick trip to the beach to watch Wishes but that would probably be it. I wouldn't even do that if it wasn't cool out...I know we have A/C but what if it went out or something and my dog had a heat stroke because I'm off watching some firework show? Yes...I am a worrier ~grin~

I remember years ago the neighbor to where I worked left his dog on a a chain by the fence and the dog got over the fence and hung himself. It was a good thing he was nearly dead when we found him since he wasn't a very friendly dog so this way no one got bit and the dog survived.

My dogs actually love their crates and will frequently go in there with the door open just to chill out. My one border collie is a rescue pup with some issues, and his crate has always been a safe haven for him.

However we never "abuse" the crates. They aren't in there for huge amounts of time on a regular basis, and we never, ever use them as punishment.

Our youngest sleeps in hers at night because she's still young and we know there would be a party at 3am. She actually ASKS to go to bed at night and gets like a restless, overtired toddler at night until you put her to bed. Then you hear the giant SIGH and she curls up. :goodvibes

We also crate our dogs in our SUV when we travel for their own safety. A loose dog can be a projectile in an accident, and a friend's dog was thrown from the car during a traffic accident once. Also our back gate opens up, and I don't want to risk anyone jumping out into traffic if we're stopped in a rest area along a major highway somewhere.

When we leave our dogs in the TT on vacation they are crated for their own safety. I'd love to be able to leave them loose, but I know my dogs, and that would just be a disaster - for them and our neighbors. :guilty:

Their crates are large and equipped with a comfy bed, safe toys and water (oh and of course they have the TV and AC/fan going too!) We only leave them for a few hours at a time, and we make sure they get LOTS of exercise/play time before and after, so they pretty much just sleep while we're gone (we've snuck back to check ;) )

We spent 3 weeks at FW last month and thanks to the dog park and being able to take things slow and spend time with our dogs too, we ALL had a really great time. Sure it takes some extra work and preparation, but it's not a good vacation for us, if it's not a good vacation for them. :thumbsup2

We actually bought a TT so that we could take our vacations with our dogs, but if we couldn't do it this way so that they were happy and well taken care of too, we wouldn't bring them.

What if that one time I left him there...he tried to get out, or fell out of the canvas?

I know of several cases of dogs falling out of popups - usually during the night when they sleep loose on the bed with their people. Luckily none have ever gotten hurt or run off, but it's still scary.

One of our dogs fell out of our hybrid once. We were setting up and she had hopped up on one of the ends that had nothing on it yet, stepped too close to the edge and POP... out she fell. She was ok, just a bit confused.

I'm not sure why people don't use the kennel. I can only guess that it's either the cost (although it's really only $10 more than the $5 just to have the dog at your site), or the inconvenience of having to go back and forth?? :confused3

My dog is also a Border Collie from a rescue ans she loves her crate it is are safe place. She also has other issues but she is a good dog.

Very cool! I have 2 rescue BCs and have volunteered with a BC rescue group for a whole bunch of years now. They're a... um ...."quirky" breed to start with  and definitely not for everyone, but wonderful dogs in the right situation. :goodvibes

Any crate that would fit Brownie, would be bigger than our Pop up!:lmao:

He's going to be 3 next month but he still acts so much like a puppy i.e. he'll run around and play like there's no tomorrow then BAM, drop like a stone and out like a light for several hours.

I don't know why I'm such a worry wart when it comes to the kids or my dog...I'm surprised I haven't wrapped them all in bubble wrap and stuffed them in a closet ~grin~

I shouldn't admit this but.....when I take Brownie to the Disney kennels....I take a big battery operated fan and a blanket for his cot. :sad2: I know...I'm pathetic. He goes in the outdoor kennel because he's so big but they have great big fans out there for Pete's sake. I'm surprised I haven't brought the portable DVD player so he can watch Animal Planet.........hmmmmm :scratchin

Crates in and of themselves are not bad. I know many people who crate their dogs while they are at work, out, asleep, etc. and most of the time the dog is okay with it as long as it's properly crate trained. I had a dog who we crate trained as a puppy and it got to the point where we didn't have to close the door.. she went in there on her own as we were leaving (she just knew) and going to bed. It was her "cave".

If it is against the rules than it should never have happened but (playing devil's advocate here) if the weather was nice, they had access to water, and are used to being crated while the owners are away, asleep, etc. I think they probably weren't horrible pet owners. AND, is it possible Disney gave them permission to bring their dogs under those circumstances?
