We are thinking about our first trip ever to DW and will be going alone. What would you suggest as the best place to stay for adults? :bounce:

That's a difficult question to answer! It all depends on what kind of atmosphere you like, what you are planning on doing while you're at the World, and what your budget is. I'm going to stat off suggesting the Boardwalk Inn. It is a beautiful hotel within walking distance to Epcot, and the Boardwalk with shops and restaurants is right outside. Have fun planning!

Before Judy and I moved down here we had spent over 1/3 of our visits in the Contemporary Tower; that's over 100 nights. At one time between mid-August 1999 and Mid-September 2000 we had four visits totalling 41 nights.

depends upon his wants and needs.

Will he be going to one of the WDW theme parks?

if Epcot or Studios then BWV or BCV - he can rent points from a DVC member - also on this list are D/S, YC/BC, BWI - you are also on the BW for night time fun.

If MK then VWL - again rent points - also on the list Cont, GF and Polyn (all on the monrail) plus WL and FW.

IF AK then AKL (this is not close enough to walk or take boat he must ride a bus) - the other resorts pretty close are the value resorts - All Stars.

If he just wants to relax I happen to Love OKW. PO either FQ or R will also work here.

for the PI night life - SSR.

now SSR, VWL, BCV and BWV would be studios - they have a queen bed and a double sleeper sofa.

OKW has 2 queen beds - so for solo it is not a great choice (no sofa) as the others.

but OKW has a very relaxing atmopshere.

I think its a toss up between Poly and the Epcot resorts - it all depends on what you like to do. I would give the Yacht/Beach Club a try

Let me throw in some moderate resorts that I've enjoyed solo. Coronado Springs - ask for room near health club and quiet pool. Port Orleans - Riverside - the Magnolia Bend area, nice quiet pool for laps.

I've also stayed at Pop Century and enjoyed it as a solo.

POFQ was recommended to us as being quieter, with more couples and fewer families - we found it lively and peaceful at the same time, and we will go back again! If I had to make another choice, I think the Boardwalk Inn sounds good - I'd like to try it sometime.

Swan was wonderful/romantic. Had great balconies, pools, restaurants for adults. Best beds for romance too! :rotfl:

Epcot resorts for Deluxes.

This is a tough one - I like staying at any of the Epcot based resorts. I think that the Yacht Club is fantastic! But I also stayed at the Beach Club and Boardwalk -This location is ideal for single or adult travelers. Many attractions and activites are within walking distance. I like staying at these hotels during special events such as the Wine and Food festival or MGM events. They are both within walking distance or accessible by small boat and bus rides to the parks are short. It is also convenient if you are traveling with a wheelchair or assisted living companion. Though many travelers don't want to spend the money for somewhere you "just sleep", I enjoy the opposite. I enjoy the hotel ambiance, availability of fine resturants and enjoy the pool. The parks are a added bonus. You have the option of enjoying private areas and pools and still experience the "magic" of Disney in the surroundings. Many a trip I have only ventured to the parks for dinner. On the other hand, if you are interested in privacy and distancing yourself from the parks, I've stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge - both have a distinct decor and are off the beaten path of Disney parks. Each offer unique settings for an ideal vacation. ENJOY AND HAVE A MAGICAL DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As an adult I've always enjoyed OKW...it's quiet and very relaxing. The atmosphere is wonderful. This time around I decided to switch it up and try the BWV, completely opposite from OKW. I think that the night life, the shops and restaurants, and the conveniences of being that close to 2 parks will be a great thing. I will let you know my thoughts on it when I get back on the 28th!!!

I agree with the Yacht Club. Although I've never stayed there, I know several families with young children tell me that they felt out of place there, because there were so many adults and so few children. Not that that's bad, but they felt it was more an adult place. I also would think OKW would be a good choice simply because you're so "removed" in your villa-no corridors. That's the place where DH and I stay when we go just as adults, and we love it.

I think it depends on the time of year. If you are going to be there during a school vacation, you might want to stay at the Swan/Dolphin. They have the most adult atmosphere of any of the on property hotels, plus you have the bonus of being able to walk to Epcot and MGM.

We stayed at the Yacht Club right after Labor Day, and it was not crowded at all. However, we've been there in the summer and during the holidays and many, many kids were running around the lobby, pool, etc. It just was a different (not as relaxing), noisier atmosphere. We'll be at WL in a few weeks and are hoping for low crowds.

The monorail hotels have a great appeal to families with small children.

As for moderates, we liked the Coronado Springs and POFQ. But the food courts at both were mobbed with families and very loud.

The Swan and Dolphin both host many conventions and have great restaurants that are less likely to attract families. We like that because sometimes after a day at the parks, we are glad to be surrounded by grown ups again! We prefer the S/D and can sometimes get great rates there. When they are fully booked or aren't offering discount rates, we go for the hotels listed above.

We love the Dolphin because it's beautiful and fun, plus walking distance to our favorite park (Epcot), plus reasonably priced (can usually get a room in the $150 range).

For budget trips, we love POP and ASMo, but nothing beats being walking distance to Epcot.

We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn & found it to be very adult-friendly. We love the GF, but there tend to be a LOT more kids running around there, barefoot (gasp! sacrilege!) through the beautiful lobby :)
We've also stayed at Coronado Springs, b/c we'd heard it was adult-oriented as a result of having the convention center there. There were lots of adults, but it was some event for one of the Big 6 (how many bigs are there now?), and it seemed more like a fraternity/sorority mixer. Not our scene, and they got loud, so I think it depends on who's conventioneering there at the time.
Cheers!

Spurge and stay at GF. It is beautiful, romantic, peaceful and on the monorail! Who could ask for anything more?! :thumbsup2
