what do you call the storage risers that front loader washer/dryer sit on?

Pedestals. :) You should be able to find them where they sell washers and dryers.

Yes, they are called pedestals...and they usually cost around $200 each. You will need to know the exact make and model of your washer and dryer as the pedestals are not universal. Some washers and dryers do not have pedestal options even. You can buy them from the store you purchased your set from, or online once you know the model number of the pedestals you need.

just to warn you the Pedestals are super expensive. If you have the vertical space, you could also order the stacking kit for the washer/dryer and get 7ft cabinet from home depot for cheaper. It would also have more storage.

my dh made my pedestals for my front loads out of plywood and they work awesome

We use big cement blocks and plywood. :rolleyes1 Our laundry area is in the basement, no way was I going to pay those outrageous prices!

My friend's husband made theirs too. He spent $100 and saved $300. If they're in the basement or a back room, it's just not worth spending a ton. He just made boxes out of good plywood and painted them. I'm looking for another set of washer/dryer and I'm not considering front loaders because of all the extra expense and work to use them. They need platforms, they cost more to begin with, you have to use special detergent and you have to clean your washer all the time or it smells bad.

I have the whirlpool duet set. Bought one pedestal at an appliance scratch and sent place in great condition for $50 and the other from lowes when they were running a sale for $99. I am very happy with them although I never use them for storage. Just to make them higher. They are perfect height now. My back Would kill me before

We got our pedestals for free when my DH bargained while buying our W/D at Sears six yrs ago. Ours are just pedestals without storage.

While it is true that the better front loaders do cost more than top loaders, there is absolutely no extra maintenance involved. Detergent is the same price, at least mine is. I buy Tide HE liquid which is the same price as non-HE Tide...and you also use less so in fact it may be cheaper. Newer front loaders don't require you to wipe everything down, etc...all you have to do is leave the door cracked (my LG has a little magnet catch thing so the door will just stay slightly cracked and won't fly open). You just run an empty bleach cycle once per month or every few months for cleaning and that's it.

There are no more mold/smell problems with HE front loaders. My parents have older LG front loaders than mine (mine are 3 years old, and theirs are probably 5) and I visited them one day and noticed their washer smelled...turns out they had never read the directions which said to leave the door cracked. Once they ran 1 bleach cycle and started leaving the door cracked, their problems went away. :) The reason is because it creates a watertight seal when you close the door...if you leave it closed, air cannot dry out the drum.

Anyway, everyone has their preferences, but I love my LG washer/dryer. Both our electric and water bills dropped significantly as soon as we got them. I do miss having the option to soak whites, but mine does have a Bright White cycle that does do a pretty amazing job. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing about them!

The only thing that is true about the bolded is you have to use special detergent that does not cost more.

I don't know where you live but here in the Tidewater area there is a Grand Furniture Outlet that sells them all the time for $50 each. You can even work a deal 2 for $75.
