What did you or would you name your cabin, vacation, beach or lake house?

oh gawd...i own a sign business and we do tons of house signs...not our favorite thing to do b/c the people usually make us jump through hoops for small signs, but that's another thing....anyway a few ones that stick out are..... " baydream believer" "sunrise cottage" ( hardly a cottage btw prob a 2-3 mil $$ home ) "lynnbay villa" "beach dreams" " the beach house "
"the sandbox" etc etc........ and NO i do not have a name for my house..i think it is pretentious to have a name & official sign on the home.....but that's my opinion....

too funny, I feel your pain, dh has a small printing business.

I sure hope something fun hand painted on a wooden flip flop sign for a single wide on a lake in GA doesn't come off as pretentious :goodvibes

DH's family lake house had a sign over the garage that said "Here Tiz"...as in "Here it is". So that was the name.

Our cottage has been in the family around 50 years. When my grandparents bought it (long before I was born!), it already had a name (The Knoll--it means "the hill") and they kept it. When I was around 12 or so, I remember that my family had gotten together and asked my grandmother (grandpa died when I was 6) to change the name. Everyone else hated it, but grandma loved it and said it would be hard to change it--we'd have to search for the deed or something like that. My suggestion was to just take the sign that had the name on it off the cottage , but no one did. The funny part is that it's now been over 5 years since my grandmother died and the name is still "The Knoll." In fact, one of my sisters made a new sign a couple of years ago. But we never, ever have referred to it as "The Knoll." We usually refer to it as "The Cottage."

My Grandpa named their cabin "Back of the Moon Lodge" though I have no idea why. And their ranch in Texas was called the PVR (Paradise Valley Ranch). I love both names and he definitely was NEVER pretentious in anything he built or did :thumbsup2

My parents had a cottage by a lake when I was a kid the name was

LINGER LONGER

My sister house is named TUMBLE INN

the love shack. and our pontoon boat is the pontoon saloon.

My family owns a house in upstate NY ( about 3 hrs from where I live) we all go up there often. It is on a huge mountain and we go 4 wheeling alot it is so much fun. We call it "the compound" The number to the house that I keep saved in my phone is under the house name

I think it would entirely depend (for me) on the location, environment, setting, house, etc.

My grandfather build a place in the NC mountains over 50 years ago. It has a house, and a tiny guest cottage on the property. He planted cherry and apple trees, and named the house "Cherry Hill" and the cottage "Apple Blossom." When my grandparents died, the property was left to my mother and dad.

4 years ago, the house directly across the street was for sale, and we jumped at the chance to buy it, with my sister and BIL. We spend a lot of time there during the summer, especially around the 4th of July, with family and friends. We encouraged everyone to submit possible names for our house, and the winner was "Fruit Cocktail." :rotfl:

We inherited ours but there was still a small mortgage. It isn't a seasonal cottage but an actual house with quite a bit of beach front. I just call it the money-sucking vortex. I can't wait to get it sold so we can not worry about the care and maintenance for two houses. Then we also wouldn't feel bad about not spending time and money there. We enjoy our time there (our children really love it) but life will be much easier when we have the flexibility to do other things.

We jokingly call our house the Flying Pitbull Ranch. :rolleyes1

When our sweet pitbull mix had to have surgery, he couldn't climb the stairs or jump in the car, and DH would have to carry him (61 pounds of pitbull!). We'd always ask our dog, "Are you ready to fly now?" as DH would pick him up.

Our dog is walking on the Rainbow Bridge now, but we still refer to our house as the Flying Pitbull Ranch.

Mine is called "Beach Club Villas"

My condo is informally named "That Dump I Live In" and I am thinking about ordering the plaque for the door.

I have not read the entire thread, so forgive me if this has been mentioned, but David Sedaris has a really funny piece about naming a vacation home (that his parents never ended up buying.)

My parents bought a beach house about 12 years ago, and they named it "Serenity Now" which I thought was clever! you know...like the Seinfeld episode.....:rotfl:

My parents have a summer home on an island in Maine and many of the homes and cottages are all named. It is fun to see all the different names. My parents never did the "name" thing...but maybe they should!!! :goodvibes
