What did you do to save money this week (2/4/07)?

Today I'm cooking frozen pizzas for dinner, saving about $25.

I have my pot of water, orange peel, cinnamon and nutmeg on the stove. Besides adding humidity it helps me have a healthy snack in the morning so I have the orange peel to put in it.

I spent almost all day shopping around for mattresses. I finally went with Sears because they will deliver and haul away our old ones and I spent $18 under the $600 I had budgeted for them. I almost bought ones that were $50more apiece, but when I compared their specifics side by side the cheaper ones were actually a little nicer for what I wanted. I also bought them online through SR, it's only 1%, but better than nothing.

Dh called last night and asked me to start pricing batteries for his laptop to take to Iraq and suggested  that we buy a new laptop:eek: . We don't NEED a new laptop not to mention a new laptop full of sand so I vetoed that suggestion.

I haven't been doing so great drinking water instead of soda, I kind of fell off that wagon, sick kids have been waking me up during the night so I need my caffeine boost during the day, but my throat is scratchy now so I've got my trusty bottled water back on the desk.

On the grocerygame subject, I haven't started for the same reason as someone else mentioned, we don't have double coupons around here so I don't think I would see a significant savings.

Instead of going shopping between pilates and picking up the girl at school....I sat in my car like a stalker in front of her classroom and read. I read about WDW so I guess I was planning how to spend the money I was saving!!!

Today I didn't do much, but I did share the vinegar instead of JetDry with some coworkers. So, technically I didn't save money, but others will so that's ok too.

I did actually do one thing...I had to order an attachment for something I purchased off ebay. The manufacturer wanted 8.95 to ship something about the size of a tootsie roll that costs $9.95. The item is not very popular, so there aren't many retailers selling them but I found one selling it for the same price and would ship it for free! I love free!

I forgot to mention yesterday that I signed up online for the CVS card. I realized afterwards that I could have gotten it faster if I signed up in person, but oh well. It gives me 2 weeks to try and figure the system out! And we have a CVS right up the road so that's great.

Thanks for the tips on the shopping sites. If I sign up at grocerygame ohiominnie, I'll be sure to use you as my referral :)
FYI - you don't have to wait for the card to shop - just give CVS the phone number you listed online when you check out and it will pull up your account! :thumbsup2

I bought a plane ticket for my mom to come visit. I wanted to buy the ticket on SW in case she changes her mind. Again.

So I went and priced it out. Over $300! :scared1: So then I checked the senior rates. Much better. But there was a web special fare on the way down but not the way back that was $60 less than the senior rate. It wouldn't let me combine the web special and the senior discount. Bah.

So I booked both tickets seperately and saved $60!

unfortunately I didnt do anything to save money today :sad2: This weekend is DD9 birthday party and I went and did some shopping for her gifts.. I just have a few more things to get and Im all done.. so wont have to do any more shopping

We recycle enough trash items during the week that we are able to use the smallest garbage can pick up service...recycling is free in our area and we do not have to sort it at all....just put everyhting in one plastic tub. Guess that counts as a weekly savings and it's the responsible thing to do as well!

Oh, one more thing.....when I changes the cat box I used the lawn/leaf garbage bags I found for way cheaper than the cat box liners I was buying before. I was able to get twice as many for less than one box of the original ones and our cat doesn't seem to mind the change! LOL

I wish ours did that! We recycle as much as possible and end up only putting out one can of trash, but one can is the same price as one of those big toter things. Oh well, I'm not saving money but I'm helping to save the environment.

Our trash service gives a choice of two sizes of trash cans as we have a special truck that picks up these special cans....silly but what do ya do? Just glad I can get away with the smaller of the two!

Day 26 of the IPCEO.

Found an online coupon for a medication that DS takes, he can get 42 pills free. Unfortunately they are 25mg and he takes 200mg. So he'd only get four days free, about $4 in savings off his co-pay. And he'd have to take eight pills at a time. Not sure it's worth the hoops they want you to jump to get the sample. Maybe I'll ask his doctor to write the script for the 42 and I'll get it filled (free!) and stick it away as a "just in case" supply.

Not sure if everyone knows this but on the Wal-Mart website under "Pharmacy" there is quite a large list of their $4.00 generic brand prescriptions. Anything on that list (in the correct dosage amount) will be filled for a price of $4.00...and this is entirely separate from insurance...you don't have to have insurance to get this price. There are hundreds of medications on there...some are long term, others are simple, regularly prescribed antibiotics.

Our prescription rates this year for the company I work for has more than doubled...so I printed off a copy of the $4.00 list and leave it in my car. When I have had to take the kids to the doctor for anything I ask my physician to please try to prescribe though one of the medications on the list.

Just this year alone, I've saved over $250 on medications rather than having them filled through our insurance!! It's worth taking a look at!

hmmm, saved money this week.... haven't bought into DVC like my heart is telling me....;) but my brain says otherwise.....:thumbsup2
bought each ds only one clearance POTC shirt at Walmart, instead of 3...they had lots of styles...but they didn't need a bunch....
have begun clipping coupons and filing them again(have been lazy for a couple of months, vacation and all)
am cooking at home all the time from scratch, but that's every week- especially my homemade pizzas, better than any restaurant, and so much cheaper! Let's see, made chicken broth last night and froze, then baked the whole chicken I made it with and served for dinner...
Got 2 million videos from the library for the kids, and magazines too, to keep us all occupied in the cold weather

Hmm. DH takes Benicar for High Blood pressure. I did not see that on the WalMart list. But I am assuming that Benicar is a name brand and not generic drug?? Does anyone know what the generic name for Benicar is? Is that available on the Walmart plan? If so, I might have DH call the doctor and ask about the generic if it would be appropriate for him to take. I know that for some onetime prescriptions, my doctor has marked that generic equivalent is ok. So I know he is not anti-generic. Right now we pay $15 per month for the Benicar with our prescription plan. So $4 would save us $132 per year.

Maggie

I've looked online and it sounds like a patent has restricted any generic forms of Benicar in the US...however, maybe there is another alternative drug that would do the same thing???? Not sure, but maybe ask next time you see the doctor. :)

Dh looked over the list when it first came out (he's a doctor) and he noticed that MOST of the drugs are ones that have been around for awhile and newer/better drugs have been produced. Some of the anti-depressants on the list, for example, he said, "No one prescribes that anymore for depression."

So while there may be a drug here and there that is appropriate, for the most part those drugs are not widely prescribed because the drug companies have come up with better drugs that work better and have less side effects.

FWIW. :)

I went and did the Angelfood box for Feburary. We like chicken and everybody seems to agree that these are the best months.

As far as the walmart $4 drugs go, honestly I'd try the cheaper ones even if there are new ones out. If the old ones work and it's that inexpensive try it and maybe they will work, if not then try the more expensive ones. Drug companies are just like computer companies, they put out one model knowing that a better model will come out, plus once the time passes that they can be exclusive and the generics come out, they almost always come out with a "new" generation. It is a never ending cycle.

~running dishwasher and will open door to dry...

~DD starts babysitting job tonight and I have to drop her off. It's a little fr from our home but I will be driving by Walgreens so will stop in for what I need. I only have to drop off so will save gas on having to pick her up...

~One stepson is coming over for the weekend and since it is a weird evening, I will be making a fast dinner at home for everyone instead of eating out. Maybe we'll get take-n-bake pizza tomorrow evening as a treat.

~We get a special treat Sunday as my MIL is taking us out to a fancy brunch...YAY!

I went to the grocery store today. They were offering triple coupons (up to .99 face value, limit six) and I just can't pass that up! Got the following deals:

Electrosol tabs (26 count box)=1.57
Magic Erasers (4)= .21 each
Pace Salsa (2 jars) = 1.14 each
Pancake syrup =1.24
Digiorno Supreme Pizza = Free
Digiorno 1/2 Pepperoni Pizza = Free
Tostitos = Free
12 pack of Pepsi = Free

I reused some grocery bags too, so my bill was originally $61, after coupons & sales it was only $28.17!!

I was looking at dishwasher detergent and saw the JetDry right next to it, I almost started to laugh out loud. In my mind I was thinking "you want me to PAY for that?" The "large" bottle was something insane like $6! Someday I should price it by the gallon, then I'll really see how much my vinegar is saving me!

My down comforter was in desperate need of cleaning so instead of paying a small fortune at the dry cleaner, we found a laundromat with industrial washers and dryers. Just $4 to wash and dry my comforter! Good as new! Plus my Nikes are nice and clean since I had to throw something in to agitate so the feathers wouldn't clump, LOL.

I've been in need of a travel charger for my iPod. I was planning to spend between $20 and $30 for one and came across a deal to get one for 4 cents (that I obviously posted for others, LOL) Now I can leave my laptop at home if I don't need it and just plug my iPod into the wall. Plus I use my iPod at LOT at work and watching video drains the battery. Now I can plug into the wall and keep going, watching movies or tv shows while sitting in the studio waiting for my talk breaks.
