We spent the day at my daughters' baseball tournament, then working on our new home office. (It's almost done finally) Capped the day off with a BBQ in the dramatically cooler weather. BTW did anyone else experience a tremendous drop in temperatures yesterday? Definitely no need for air conditioning now!

We did not do anything too exciting yesterday. I watched the parliament hill show on tv and was grateful I was not in that crowd. I went to parliament hill for Canada Day twice since I moved to Ottawa and think I have had my fill of that craziness. We could see fireworks from the front of our house last night, so we went out to watch. We FROZE! I could not believe how cold it got.

Didn't do anything really big for Canada Day... DISed quite a bit, and went to see fireworks last night. :D

We went to the Jays game at the 'Dome against Boston (the Jays stunk, thank you for asking  ) and stayed for the fireworks afterwards.

All I know is that it's time to move when you drive 2 hours to watch a baseball game, and as you are leaving the stadium with 34000 other fans, you run across one of your son's soccer teammates and family. All the way back down the 401 it was all I could do to force that darned song out of my head. (You know the one - it starts "It's a world of laughter....")

We spent our afternoon at the Forks- the most popular meeting place in Winnipeg, listened to some bands playing. Our evening was spent at Assiniboine Park, we walked throught the Leo Mol Garden- it is absolutely beutiful and I recommend seeing it if you are ever in Winnipeg. We then listened to McMasters and James and watched the fire works. The fireworks were the best I have ever seen in our city. It was a great day!

It started pouring in the morning here in Toronto, so we planned indoor stuff - RFC at Yorkdale for lunch, followed by the movie "Atlantis". It was beautiful and sunny later in the afternoon, though. LOVED that temperature drop - we've been roasted alive in our house the last little while!

Spent the morning just lounging around while it was raining. Then went up to Ottawa for the festivities. It was freezing! we gave up on seeing the fireworks around 10:30pm. Heard on the news later that because of the high winds they could not let them off on the hill :( It was a fun day though!

My husband and I spent the weekend in Seattle with my sister and her family (thanks Hotwire for the $26 night at the Sea-tac Hilton, nice hotel!) as they were leaving, with my 13-year old DD, for . . . DL, without me! They are actually travelling by Amtrak down to Anaheim, still on it actually, they arrive late this evening. I'm really happy that they're going and only slightly jealous. Actually I guess we could have gone too but I'm saving for a big WDW/cruise trip in Dec. 2002. I have asked my DD to bring back a DCA t-shirt for me tho!

Spent the weekend camping in Algonquin with my DH and dog - beautiful scenery, lovely weather (mostly - pretty cold Sunday evening and Monday morning though - we christened that site frozen island) and we saw three moose on Canada Day! Right in the middle of the day - they must have been enjoying the return to warm weather like us. A mother, a baby and a fathere all eating in the river we were paddling down. Isn't this the most wonderful country?! And we have such nice neighbours! Anyway - hope my fellow DIS-ers had equally lovely Canada Days.

The night before, some of my friend wanted to get together. I don't drink, but they sure can!! They all got very drunk, and I ended up babysitting, and listening to all their problems until 5:30 in the morning. I was exhausted on Canada Day, but still decided to head over to the fireworks in Edmonton. It took us over 25 minutes afterwards to get around one block in the downtown area. I was so tired, that I almost fell asleep driving. I swore if I ever go have to go to the fireworks again, I'm going to take the LRT/subway down there to avoid the traffic crowds afterwards. To top it off, the fireworks weren't that fantastic. Of course, I compare them to WDW.:p :p :p

We watched it SNOW!!!!! Yes.....snow! We even made CTV National News where it was noted, with a smirk, that our festivities were cancelled. Our annual "Truck Drag" (an interesting event popular in northeastern Ontario and Northwestern Quebec where drivers of BIG TRUCKS race up hills and race to win pick-up trucks....I say no more) was cancelled due to the ice conditions and snowfall.

When it snows on July 1st, 2001 there is only one thing to do. Hide. We stayed in our jammies, turned the furnace on, surfed the net and read books. And grumped.

...and you think....these are the days when you WANT to be in Disneyworld.

What ever happened to the posts about you in WDW with your wife and Gifts of a Lifetime? That story was the best one you posted. Did it not get transfered over with the boards? Is there any way that I can get that, because my fiance would get a kick out of it. Let me know.

We just got back from spending the weekend camping in Rideau River Provincial Park just outside of Ottawa with friends. It is one of the prettier and more under-appreciated parks in the Province. Friday night sweating in the tent from the heat, Saturday afternoon spent at the beach with friends, Saturday night almost being washed out by the torrential downpour which hit before we were able to get all the windows and vents closed on the tent. Sunday morning we rushed in to Ottawa and got to see the ending of the Changing of the Guard ceremony on Parliament Hill (as a former Guardsman that was a must see) then the RCMP Musical Ride the more rain. This resulted in a trip to the Museum of Natural History to wait out the storm. All the museums were free on Canada Day. After the storm passed we headed to Major's Hill Park which is to the east of the Parliament Buildings and overlooks the Rideau. There was a separate event from that on the Hill and we settled in to watch the shows and eventually the fireworks.

By 9:15 we were turning blue from the cold wind and all agreed to head back to our cars where we figured we could probably still see some of the fireworks, however by that point the rest of the gang had confused me with someone who still cared. My teeth had finally stopped chattering and I was not about to go back out and stand in that wind to watch fireworks. So at 10:15 we packed it in and headed back to the Park. I was really relieved to hear we had made the right choice in not waiting.

All in all though we had a great time. DW had her green ribbon on her purse in case we ran into Mickey65 or other Dis'ers. Belated Happy Canada Day everyone!!!

In my city of D.D.O., we had our fireworks on Friday night, which was really good, because the rest of the weekend we also spent at a tournament for our DD7 soon to be 8 but for soccer. We also, experienced a dramatic change in weather, and it is still cool for this time of year. However, after reading Dave from the Frozen North, I realized that our temperature drop is not sooooooooooooooooooo bad!

Hi Joline.

Tried to email directly on this. Please check my profile, send me an email and I can forward a copy of that trip report to you by email (and any others you want). My good intentions of moving quickly to get all my trip reports on the Tales from the Tundra section of Pete's main site have been sidetracked for various reasons. Hopefully will revise and post them all eventually.
