What did WE celebrate? .. 30 days of Disney fun and food! Update 04/02

It's a shame Boma wasn't so great but anywhere that has unlimited Zebra Domes can't be all bad

Don't let the characters scare you, they're very friendly. ;):lmao:

But I've always loved the food there. I've been there twice for breakfast, and it's been great both times. Plus they have the same juice as Boma.

See;

Thank you for the link and the encouragement concerning the characters! :lmao:
Tusker House looks yummy and if they offer the same juice as Boma that makes it really worth giving them a try. Don't know if I can squeeze it in in February, but it is on my list for our summer vacation! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Well, you are correct about my having a WPE close to home. But....the EoS I visited the other night was at DTD!!!!

Yes, we snuck in a quick getaway this week to Disney World! :woohoo:

Dave! How could you? :scared1: You went to WDW and didn't tell anyone here? I am missing a link to a trip report in your signature!

How wonderful you were able to go to WDW and now I know that that Holiday Sandwich was even better!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the update, we were not too happy with our Boma dinner too (when we went 2x the food was soooo SALTY) but loved the dessert. We would never go back for dinner but we love breakfast. When we went for dinner we never saw our server (we did not get refills for drinks until we got our check) but breakfast the server are awesome (we went for breakfast 3x and love all 3 breakfast).
Love your reviews and can't wait for more. Thanks for the information on the new Mickey puffy cheese snacks (if I have alot of snacks left over I need to buy them for my sons friends)

It's a shame they can't keep the breakfast quality at dinner! :confused3 We really enjoy breakfast (and we don't really like buffet breakfasts in general)!
Our server was so slow too. She vanished for long periods of time and never got around to clear the plates from our table. We had a small table and it was crowded with the drinks and two plates, let alone having to stack them!!

Enjoying your reviews. We love WPE too and the pizza is my favorite breakfast there.

Thank you! :flower3:
I am dreaming of that breakfast pizza! :cloud9:

Sorry Boma dinner was disappointing for you guys. I went last December and thought it was pretty good. I have an ADR for breakfast for this December, so I'm hoping that will be even better!

It seems to be a hit or miss at Boma. :confused3 We won't hurry back for dinner, but I hope you'll hit it at a good day! :goodvibes

It's a shame Boma wasn't so great but anywhere that has unlimited Zebra Domes can't be all bad

Yes, you are right the desserts (and Zebra Domes) made up for the rest! :rotfl2:

Still Day 7, August 20

A Snack at the Aloha Isle

After our dinner at Boma we hurried over to the MK as it was Evening Extra Magic Hour day AND our DISmeet, organized by Yuki!

DSC_0752.jpg

Here we are! Unfortunately some of the people, who had signed up didn't make it, but the 7 of us had fun anyway. We chatted for a while, rode Pirates together, then Candy and her family left and Yuki and Andrew, Tom and I went to have a short break and enjoy our Aloha Isle snacks.

Tom and I shared a Dole Whip and

Yuki and Andrew shared ......

a Dole Whip Float. It was nice sitting at one of the small tables, chatting and enjoying the frozen treat.

Once we were done we said our goodbyes and tried to get the most out of the rest of EMH until 3am!!!!

Here are a few impressions!

Just read your review of Boma, I am so sorry you didn't like it. We loved it, but I have to say our service was slow as well. It didn't matter though, we took our time eating all our favorites. Mick had 3 bowls of the Butternut Squash soup. I like the chicken and the corn casserole. The peanut butter topped dessert was my favorite. We are still trying to decide whether we can afford to go on a cruise next year. We really want to go again and I am trying to convince Mick we could go in Sept. for at least a 4 night cruise. I'll let you know the outcome. Don't think we could make it when you are going because of our daughter's wedding in Aug.

Maybe I should try some soup next time. Is the pasta salad more on the sweet side? Here in Austria we have pasta salad and it is rather on the vinegary side - so I am never sure IF I would like it. :confused3

It's a mayo-based with some pickles--maybe some onion and red bell pepper. However, I think it's a bit more on the sweet side. It's not vinegary like an Italian pasta salad. You probably wouldn't like it, then. But do try the soup....Yummy! We end up getting a cup of soup each and then splitting a sandwich.

Well, I guess, you win some, you lose some! :lmao: We were just amazed that there was such a huge difference in taste for us between breakfast and dinner. And I have read a lot about the slow service there, so this seems to be a trend! ;)
I am such a fan of the Zebra Domes - so these are my absolute favourite, even though I loved the bread pudding and the apple cobbler!

:woohoo: for thinking about another cruise! It's a shame you can't come the same time we will be there, but your daughter's wedding needs to come first! ;) :lmao:
But what about 2012 - the Fantasy does 7 day Caribbean cruises? ;)

Thanks for explaining! I guess we are going with the soup then! ;) Which one is your favourite?

Day 8, August 21

Lunch at the Contempo Cafe

Since we had only gotten to bed at 3am we needed to sleep in. We got up at around 9.30 and showered, got the villa ship-shape and then finally decided it was time to think about lunch.

We decided to drive over to the Contemporary and have lunch at the Contempo Cafe.

They had just started to serve lunch and we went to one of the kiosks to order. It is fun playing with them! :thumbsup2

We decided to share two dishes.

IMG_5933.jpg

IMG_5934.jpg

We ordered a Spice Crusted Mahi - topped with citrus-apple slaw on a Kaiser roll.
The only negative thing about it was that it came on a paper plate. The fish was nicely cooked and still moist, went well with the slaw and the chips were really good. The Kaiser Roll was not quite what I expected, but for an American roll it was still very nice.

Our second choice was

IMG_5931.jpg

IMG_5932.jpg

the Marinated Beef Flatbread - with oven roasted tomatoes, garlic, onions, arugula, and goat cheese. Now that was seriously good! It gets cold fast on the paper plate, but that was the only complaint we had.
There was lots of beef on the flatbread and a decent amount of arugula which went very well with the rest of the toppings!

We both had ordered Diet Cokes and since we didn't think we would be able to eat dessert there and then we picked up these.

IMG_5928.jpg

A lemon muffin and

IMG_5929.jpg

a pecan muffin. We tried a tiny bit of both and they were both very nice - the lemon muffin had a real lemony taste, but we had FAR too many sweets around the villa, so in the end the muffins ended being thrown out. :sad2:

Yay for a DISmeet; and your lunch at Contempo Cafe looks pretty darn good. We were going to take the monorail over to the Contemporary this past month but we just never found the time (we've not been there since they finished the refurb).

Dave! How could you? :scared1: You went to WDW and didn't tell anyone here? I am missing a link to a trip report in your signature!

How wonderful you were able to go to WDW and now I know that that Holiday Sandwich was even better!! :thumbsup2
We wanted to sneak in one more trip before our AP's expire. Stayed off site for a week. And you are correct...I was missing a TR link in my signature. But I started the report today and added the link. :thumbsup2

Nicki told me NOT to go to Boma for dinner and you have just now confirmed that we will stick with breakfast only! :thumbsup2

Ok, Karin...if you and Tom AND Nicki didn't like it for dinner...I think we'll cancel that one and try our luck (with Max's behavior) at Jiko. I know you and Tom like to try new and different things, so I'm confident in your assessment that the flavors were off, not strange.

Wow the food at Contempo Cafe looks quite good, especially for a CS! Maybe I will have to head over there one day and try it.

great reviews :thumbsup2

we like the contempo too, cant wait to go back.:cool1:

I am so sad BOMA was such a disappointment! UGH!! Where's the SALT??? I have been there a couple of times for supper, and I have truly LOVED all the soups- they have all been delicious, including the she-crab. What a shame.

Well, it looks like all the other meals have been wonderful!! We leave for our Magic cruise in a few days, and you have been getting me very excited for the WDW portion of our trip- thank-you!! :yay:

Hi Karin I didn't rea;lise how far behind I am on my threads !!I too went to Boma for dinner once and was not impressed with the food !!My server was great though , but I didn't care for the seasoning in many of the dishes !!A few were grat !!In particolar the Hummus ! Now Breakfast is outta this world !!!

Meeting Yuki and Candy was so much fun! :thumbsup2
We like the Contempo Cafe as the offerings are a little different from the usual food court. You need to get to the Contemporary and try it! :goodvibes

I've had that flatbread before, I agree, it's delicious.

:thumbsup2

I love those "use up the rest of your AP" trips. We have had a few of those to DLRP as well! ;)
BTW - I LOVE your trip report - it keeps me :lmao:

If I were you I would either go with Sanaa :thumbsup2 or Jiko. We LOVE Sanaa and it is the one we will return to during our February trip. And we really enjoyed Jiko.
I talked with Tom and we both feel NO desire to return to Boma for dinner in the near future.
Going to post my first try of an itinerary for February in a few minutes! :goodvibes

We can recommend the Contempo Cafe - it was really good! And the offerings are different from a usual CS.

Boma was the only disappointment this trip.
:woohoo: Your cruise is starting soon! I cannot wait to read all about it! You are doing a Caribbean one, aren't you? We are discussing them for 2012. I cannot wait for your report! :goodvibes

Rosie, I am STILL behind on some of my threads and we have been home for 6 weeks now! I try to keep up with the ones I have caught up on, but it is hard to REALLY catch up on all of them!
We liked some of the Boma desserts, but I was really disappointed with the overall taste of the main dishes.
On the other hand ...... I cannot WAIT to go back for breakfast! :thumbsup2

I promised to post my FIRST attempt on an itinerary for our February trip and here it is! :goodvibes

Travel day
Breakfast - at home
Lunch - Frankfurt airport
Dinner - Lufthansa
We'll arrive at 6.40pm, then have to go through immigration and pick up our rental car before we had to the Clarion Lake Buena Vista. (Need to clear that up - I hate checking into a hotel in the evening of a holiday weekend. I always have the feeling that I get the one left over room no one wanted and I don't want to be stuck in it for a week. ;))
After we have checked into the Clarion we will (depending on the time by then) either head to Publix to get a few drinks and snack things or pick them up at the Hess gas station opposite DTD.
Since we will need a late night snack  we will pick up a "little something" at either WPE (most likely) or EoS (maybe! :lmao:).

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Check out of Clarion
Breakfast: WPE (definitely! :thumbsup2:rotfl2:)
Check into Pop (or a moderate, if we can score an AP discount - preferably CSR)
Since this is a holiday weekend we do not intend to hit a park during the day.
We'll most likely do some shopping, DTD, Prime1, LBV outlet mall, maybe the Seminole Mall as we have not been there in a long time.

In the evening we want to be at the MK by 7 to watch the MSEP
Dinner: California Grill (watch Wishes from there)
Spend the evening at the MK for EMH until 2am :scared1:

Guess we'll sleep in a little ;)
Early lunch: WPE (did you expect anything else?)
We'll spend the day offsite, doing more shopping
Dinner: offsite

Maybe depending on when we will have dinner we might pick up a turkey leg at the Studios for a late night snack or an EoS sandwich.

We'll most likely grab a bite to eat in the room (leftovers?)

Sunday, February 27, 2011

Return home by mid afternoon
Start dreaming about our next Disney vacation! :rotfl2:

So, what do you think? :goodvibes

Karin, the plans sound GREAT. I hope you can get some kind of code to move up to the CSR! :goodvibes

Gee, I can't believe you are going back to WPE!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2: And three times. ;)

I hope you get to CSR so you can eat both Maya Grill AND the Pepper Market.

Now, will you make the early ADR for CP????

Thank you, Kathy!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for that AP discount! ;) Last year we originally booked Pop too, then when the AP discount came out I upgraded to CSR for about the same amount of money I would have paid at Pop. Come on Disney gods ...... give us all a break and an AP discount! :rotfl2:

Hm, only 3 times at WPE ....... I guess I need to change that itinerary! :lmao:

Will we make it to CP? :confused3 It's an early ADR as well! We'll see - at least we want to take those photos on Main Street real bad, so maybe that will make us get up early! ;)
