If you visit a tree farm and cut down your own, then it will make it. If you purchase it from a place, chances are...the tree was cut down weeks before! It probably wouldn't last...but then again we have had 1 or 2 trees that have lasted! When choosing a tree, check the needles to see how soft there are and how easily they fall from the branch. Also, we add a tiny bit of syrup into the water in the tree stand!
we have always bought trees (pre-cut) from local side places......I always put them up byt Dec 1 and take them down like the first or second week of Jan.....never had a problem.
I always put it up the weekend after Thanksgiving and take it down Dec 26th. As long as its halfway decent for 12/24 Im happy. But, this year we will be in WDW from the 20th-29th and I plan to do my usual "Christmas Eve" party on New Years Eve, LOL, so I will be putting it up later and keeping it up later this year. Im thinking Ill get it on the 7th.
mine goes up first saturday of december, and is out of my house by 9pm on xmas day...!!!!! lights and all go out, I only take of the ornaments...and toss the rest..
we always cut ours down at the tree farm, never add anything to the water, and we have a wood fired furnace, its about 80' in the living room....tree never drops a lot of needles
We always go get our tree either the Friday, Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving. This year we'll probably get it on the Saturday since we're going to the LSU game on the Friday. Our tree usually survives until after New Years.
