What common phrases do you hate?

I can't stand it when someone says, "I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit", or some variation along those lines.

This one totally makes me roll my eyes. Wouldn't you KNOW it if you did?

"That's how I was raised"- always used condescendingly in my experience

"oh I know" used as a reply to any new information or opinion. Say "I agree" or "I thought the same thing". Saying "I know" is like telling the other person they didn't need to bother speaking.

and then the usuals: at the end of the day, literally when figuratively was meant, I could care less

also, just because I'm from California does not mean you should call me "dude"! I had a same-age male boss who did this all the time, and it drove me nuts.

I think the only word that really gets to me is what I now call "the R word". You know, it's kinda like the word "regard"....... I admit I used it as a teen to express anger or to poke at my friends but I have a childhood friend who came out a few years ago and expressed how hurtful she finds that word. (She has some mental handicaps she's fought her whole life. She's quite functional, just has her struggles in some basic areas of life.) I told her I was sorry I'd ever used the word and now anyone I hear or see using it usually gets an earful from me about it.

Some of the teen sayings:

Epic fail
That is so white girl (huh?)
I'm soooo offended

My bad.

I hate that phrase.

Also in my place of employment they use "my ask" all the time. As in "my ask is that we have this new policy finished by Thursday so it can be shown to senior leadership for their approval". What??? Why not just tell people what you need them to do? "John, Sue and Bill, I want you to finish this policy by Thursday so I can show it to senior leadership for their approval.

I don't think that's a teen phrase. I think that's a disboards phrase.

DD15 always says things are "ghetto". I told her to stop that. I don't even know what that means.

Ressie - drives me nuts! (anything with an extra ie on the end really)
Preggers, prego ...
Totes, cray cray,- but those Sprint commercials with James Earl Jones and that other older gentleman reading teenage girl texts are hilarious! Totes magoats! ;)

Another phrase that is really annoying is when I am in a restaurant, or other business, and I thank someone (waiter/waitress/clerk) for their service.

the reply: "No Problem"

I make the assumption it should be no problem, because I am in your restaurant/store, being a customer.

how about a 'you're welcome" and leave it at that.

That really irritates me, too.

At the end of the day
Preggers
Baby daddy/mama
You people (a manager at work says this all the time! I hate it! I feel like she is talking down to us)

"D" anything on here! So annoying!!!

"I can't wrap my head around......."

"I can't wrap my brain around......."

"I could care less......"

Ughhhhh

Anywho. I heard it for the first time a couple of years ago when we got a new girl in the office.

There's also a girl in our office that calls everything "generic." I'm not even sure what she means by that!

The one that drives me bonkers is;

fur babies.

I agree completely. I don't care if your pet is a substitute for a child. It. Is. An. Animal. And unless it is under 6 months of age, it is not a baby.

Another one that is like nails on a chalkboard for me is the euphemism "over the Rainbow bridge". Where did that even come from? When I first heard it I thought it referred to a destination for the LGBT crowd. Call a spade a spade. Your pet died. It is no more. It has ceased to be. It is bereft of life. It is an ex-pet. (insert your favourite Monte Python phrase here). It is no longer pining for the fjords.

Our local newspaper and TV reporters are addicted to the phrase "with regards to". IT'S "REGARDING"!! Just sets my teeth on edge....:headache::furious::furious:

At the end of the day.

Literally.

Amazing.

Not for nothing...

Well I, for one...

As a native NYer ( and Italian ) l heard this all my life and say it too actually said as " Not f' nothin ' " I was going to try to explain it but this internet urban dictionary definition does it best :

Phrase meaning "what I'm about to say is important." That is "I'm not saying this for my health"....

Generally said as "Not f'nuthin', but...."

NYC/East Coast slang of the caucasian working class (particularly Italians)...

"Just so you know " another common phrase meaning " listen up, this is important"

Personally I don't like: the old lady, old man, hubby, it is what it is, and literally

Sorry Minnie Mum I usually agree with so much of what you post but NOT this one The Rainbow Bridge is not a saying It is a belief and one that many, including myself, find comfort in I have many pets waiting there for me

The fur babies, yes an expression...more like a term of endearment..I prefer Puppy Heads myself ;)
