What Caused you to make the decision to buy in?

I would love to respond to so many of these posts..... But everyone seems to have a great story... or reason. I think I really appreciate that at least one poster has gotten real insight into why he/she should buy in.

Just so many cool stories... and emotion......

My kids were 3 1/2, 7, 10, and 12 at the time (2005) and I wanted to secure our vacations and family time. For most of the year I am a single parent to 4 busy kids, but when we vacation at Disney, we are all relaxed and the responsibilities of everyday life seem to lift.

Time passes far too quickly to wait for anything important and now that I sit planning a trip with my now 15 year old DS, I am thankful that he will be pin trading with me and scoping out the Disney babes at the pool, still enjoying his trips to Disney with his family. My youngest is now the designated pool slide champion and calls DVC his other home--even offering up his bank of change if we can just live there :)

DVC is often an emotional decision to buy and in our case we feel like we've made a fortune in memories.

We found that after going to WDW only every 3 years or so, we have started going yearly for the past 4-5 years. That and the fact that the 4 of us are too crowded in a Value resort.

We rented some points here on the Dis from a BCV owner and decided right then that we'd love to be able to stay there on any of our WDW trips. So in order to acquire the 11 month window, we bought BCV resale:thumbsup2

My DW and I planned a special 25th anniversary trip to WDW without the kids. We had gone with kids years before, and this time realized how much fun adults can have. That and paying off the mortgage just made it the right time for us.

Wow, you have the same exact post as me! Just too funny!:goodvibes I think we are a rarity having no mortgage...such a great feeling isn't it? Makes owning DVC that much more fun.

Really, it was just being Disney addicts that got us to buy in. We had taken 3 separate trips to the world that year and realized that for the price of those trips we could have had a big chunk paid into DVC already. We went over, took the tour, and that was it. Now we're looking at doing some add-ons!

Richyams and his loyalty to OKW. Unfortunately we'd already bought elsewhere before we came to the DVC boards (but we're OKW owners now). DH discovered his love for OKW independently of Richyams, but the number of times now that DH says "Richyams was right!"
The biggest point to us buying was the idea of buying something that would force DH to take a yearly vacation. Also, DH had always wanted to go to Hilton Head and when I came back and said "Hey, I didn't know Disney has a resort on Hilton Head-I'd like to go there sometime", he was thrilled! I took the tour myself (he wasn't even in WDW with me) and didn't expect him to go for the idea. Financial reasoning played no part in our choice. It was pure emotion, but it was a good choice.

Confession time! I told DH about this thread last night and how I responded. He hasn't stopped laughing since. According to him, he just acted so enthusiastic because he knew that I loved WDW and the idea of owning something there would thirill me (of course, he was right). In order to preserve our relationship, he knew he'd better act super enthusiastic (rather than his usual-"whatever you want to do is fine with me, dear"). So 6 years later I find out the real reason for his enthusiasm. And I always thought it was his decision! But he agrees it was a great decision, regardless of why.

A good man. Understands things. :thumbsup2

funny thing with us was yesturday afternoon, i got antzy again and just wanted to go, so basically for the heck of it- i called and said "i probably know i wont get approved but can you run my credit?" The nice gentleman named Doug ran it and said I was approved. I was stunned, absolutely stunned.

We are 160 Saratoga Springs members with an August use year. Must have been fate to work so easily. My paperwork comes Monday so I can sign everything!

First toured OKW in 1992 but oldest daughter was just entering college and we were afraid to commit to a long-term financial investment. We were also concerned about how the maintenance fees would increase over time. We were ready to buy into BCV when our furnace needed to be replaced. Finally in 2004 when planning a family trip so my daughter could run the marathon we just knew the time was right to buy into SSR. We find ourselves visiting WDW every year and now usually more than once a year and needing a two bedroom for our growing family. We knew the time was right when we no longer had any doubts. Marie

We are just Disney freaks. We'll take it any way we can get it: camping, DVC, etc. We can also pass this on to our son when we kick the bucket and he can think of all the good times he had with mommy and daddy while he's there with his family.

I have a list of reasons why I waited after I first learned about DVC too!

It wasn't the $8,000 on one trip alone , it was a one week trip at Pop Century .
It was so bad by the end of the week , I had gone to the front desk and asked about moving to BWV . I decided to not move but buy DVC the day I got home.

After three trips to WDW with our Granddaughter, I just knew the Disney experience was something we wanted to continue for many years to come. We stayed at the value resort the first time, then moved to Wilderness Lodge and finally the Polynesian. I did notice the trips were getting more and more expensive. This last trip (Poly) cost more than $6,000....hmmmm.....yet I still avoided the DVC booth like the plague. (No one is going to talk me into anything, ya know?)

After I got home, I started to do my own DVC research on the web. Well, what do you know, I discovered it is a pretty darn good deal for our family. I called and got our CM to send me some information and .... well, there was no turning back.

We bought AKV, then followed up with an add-on at SSR. We have three trips planned and I can't wait to plan more. It has been great fun! For me, planning is part of the fun.

I think for us it was simply the right thing at the right time.

Rising room rates at the Beach Club is what finally did it for us. I was being priced out of my beloved and I just could not let that happen. The thought of staying somewhere else just wasn't going to fly with me. Now I'm all set and I can be at the Beach Club forever. Or at least until 2042.

We are in a little bit different scenerio than a lot of DVC members here. I am in the process of starting my family. My DF and I will be married at Disney in December. Luckily, I found someone who is perhaps an even bigger Disney nut than I am. When I was a kid, my family visited Disney several times a year, with one trip being for 10 days, so I grew up on Disney. We decided about a year ago that DVC made sense for us, because we visited about once a month, and usually stayed at the BW or BC. We also knew that we wanted to have children, and with two Disney nuts like us for parents, we knew we would be spending a lot of our vacations there. So we decided to buy DVC now, so that when kids did come into the picture, we would have that paid for except dues, which would take a lot of pressure off of us. My logic was if we had DVC, we would never have to decide between new school clothes, or taking an overnight trip to Mickey at the end of summer. My hope is that having DVC will help allow me to provide my children with the same fond memories I have from childhood.....:thumbsup2

Deej696, I love your post! You will love visiting WDW as your family grows.

We personally bought in after our very first family trip to WDW. We didn't know anything about DVC and walked right by the kiosks at the park, but we were staying at BWV in a one bedroom and totally fell in love with it! One day at the pool, I started chatting with a very friendly man who was a BWV owner, he gave me the skinny on ownership, and the rest is history. As soon as we got home, we called DVC and signed up.

DD was just shy of 4 and DS was just shy of 2, and since then we have had another DS who just turned 1. Since our initial trip, we have been to WDW 4 times and have another 2 trips planned this year. We've made the best memories -- I can still see DS at 2 running full tilt into Mickey's arms at Mickey's Backyard Barbeque. I can still see DD at 3 sitting like a little lady beside the big elephant at the kiddie pool at BWV. And I can still hear her earnestly say "THIS IS THE BEST NIGHT EVER!" after watching the parade at MK just last summer when she had just turned 6.

I'm so glad we bought in when we did. We have years and years of watching our kids fall in love with WDW the way DH and I have.

14 nights at All Star Sports with a 7 and 8 year old.

We had gone to WDW in '98 for 2 weeks and didn't know a thing about DVC. It was a great trip but on the last day I felt as though coming back to WDW was not in our future for a long time. spending 14 nights in a hotel room with no place to relax after a long day in the park was not my idea of a relaxing vacation.

On the last day of the trip we were wasting time before our flight at BWV and decided to take a tour of the DVC model there. I told my wife that if she were to ever want to come back this was how we were going to do it.

We met with our guide and took the paperwork home with us. At the time I was leaving my job at IBM and even though I was young at the time (30 years old) I qualified for their retirement plan. I could wait until I was 62 to collect a check or start taking a check right away - albeit a miniscule one. I still hadn't decided what to do before we left for WDW so I put the paperwork on my desk and forgot about it.

When we came home with the DVC paperwork I put it on my desk as another thing to make a decision on. It was a couple weeks before my brain put the two together. We could buy into DVC and use my retirement check to pay off the initial cost and future maintenance cost. Done deal!

We've taken 5 trips to WDW since then and each time we do I remember the time spent IBM with fond memories :)

Does getting to fill in another box on the "The Disney Addict" check sheet count as a reason?

Works for me! I've been a Disney Addict since the first time I went to DL (no resort then) in 1963. Two things kept me away.."timeshare" gave me a bad feeling and at the time we had no interest in WDW. Once I found out how it all worked, and since I've become old and totally set on not staying offsite at DLR or in a value, and since they are building at DLR, well, that did it.
WDW is looking better now that I'm able to see past our fraught with oddities trip there way back when. We stayed then at the Beach Club..our first experience with deluxe anything, and I've never forgotten how wonderful the place was.

I think you're in close company.

Two things.

Spending 8K for one of the Turret Suites at the GF for our honeymoon. That would have paid for about 3/4 of our DVC.

A resale with a confirmed reservation for NYE 1999. The NYE reservation is what finally put us over the edge.
