What can you do with a $1?

I read on another thread that someone thought it was ridiculous to go through great efforts to save $1.00. I'm not sure I agree with that and starting thinking of things I can do with a buck. Here are a few:

I can bake a cake when 6-8 hungry teenage boys show up at the house.

I can drive to work on $1 of gas and more importantly, get back home on a $1 of gas.

I can make a weeks worth of peanut butter sandwiches for my 5 y/o's lunch.

If I find myself out alone, I can treat myself to an ice cream.

I can bake two loaves of bread for about a $1

I can feed my family eggs and toast for breakfast (or dinner) for $1.

What can you do with a $1.00?

I am not trying to knock your idea, but if you count your cooking gas/electric you can't cook much for your $1.

I can mail two letters for less than a $1...that makes two people happy and I can stay in touch with two friends. Sometimes you need to send more than an email, and the art of letter writing is dying.

I can get a mail in rebate on Ebay for $25 in free groceries with no beer purchase.

I can buy the Sunday paper at the Dollar Tree for 1.00 instead of 1.75....Along the same line, they may think that's not much but it's $39 a year if you do the math...

hmmmm...lets see:

* I can buy a stocking stuffer at Target's dollar spot

* I can buy a pack of markers or pencils or 4 packs of crayons for back to school or to put in the bday gift box

* I can save it so next time I have $2

* I can buy a big bag of skittles

* I can buy an app or tune on Itunes

It might depend on where you live. We cook/bake a lot and our electric bill is never over $100, and a good chunk of that is taxes/fees.

Today I bought my dd a pair of jeans for 93 cents from Old Navy. Clearanced, then 1/2 price off that, then 25% off from my dd having a school id. I actually bought the only 2 pair they had--93 cents each:cool1::cool1:Great way to spend a dollar:thumbsup2

I can get a Frosty from Wendy's - the kids and I share and each get a bite so it's an indulgence, but we haven't overeaten.

I can mix up a batch of pudding-sicles for the kids.

We can rent a Redbox movie and have a family movie night (or get one for free from the library!)

I can drive to the theater and home again for $1 and we do the free Tuesday morning movies.

See to my mind it's not the single dollar I save but the composite of all those dollars that matter. We're going on vacation and as part of that vacation we'll be going to Cooperstown to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Well, our AAA discount will be saving us the whopping sum of $1.50 per adult and 75 cents per child which doesn't sound like much but it adds up to $6 for all of us. So those single dollars added up together to equal enough for lunch for one of us at McDonalds or PB&J sandwiches for the whole family. :thumbsup2

Go to garage sales! DH found a cast iron skillet at a sale the other day and they sold it to him for 25 cents! I found one just like it later at Goodwill, of all places, for $35!!!!:scared1:Add that to the lava lamp for 50 cents and the 1950's catcher's mitt a seller gave my son for free and we had a productive outing. And I still have a quarter for next time! :cool1:

I get where you are coming from.

My DH bought a song today for his IPhone. I use his phone to run with. That song made my run so much better, and will continue to do so for probably a couple of months! Great way to spend $1!

Exactly, that's the way I see it too!

LOVE this thread! Let see...

-give DS a $1 from the tooth fairy, or change & still have left over $

-buy a big sweet tea from McDonald's, or apples or a sundae

-buy 2 fountain drinks from the gas station that sells them for .49 each

-chicken tenders or mandarin oranges at Wendy's

-2 boxes of brownie mix on sale this week .49 each

-mac & cheese - store brand - .17 each - 6, not my fav but could be donated

-any trinket from the $1 spot at Target

-bar of soap

-add .50 and it pays for shirt I got for DS at the Goodwill, very gently worn, great condition

-find a way to save $1 for at least 20 days of each month & have $240 at end of year

Wow, awesome deal!!

I LOVE this thread!

I can go to Sonic between 2 and 4 pm and get a HUGE vanilla Coke for $0.98.

Or I can sock it away in our Disney savings bank. We've been doing this with spare change all year, since our trip in January. We figured it would take us 3 years to save for our next trip. Thanks to being extra diligent about putting away spare change, selling stuff on Craigslist, etc, we are only $200 away from having our next vacation fully funded! :woohoo: So instead of waiting 3 years to go again, we only had to wait 1 year!:cheer2:

...then 25% off from my dd having a school id.

Haven't heard of this. Is this your local ON or nationwide? (and how can I come up with a school ID for homeschooling in a state that doesn't make you become a charter school?)

I am trying to save for disney and I bought a new car last week. So the car payment is sucking me dry. I save every dollar I can, But I can buy a soda from work for 1 dollar.

You can buy those light up necklaces and bracelets at the Dollar Store to give kids while watching the parade at WDW.

A pack of gum to share with friends

Two packages of m&m's or Reeses on sale at Kroger

.49 Betty Crocker Brownie mix at Hyvee this week.

So for a dollar I could buy two mixes if I use the extra change I find in the couch for tax.

And a pan 13 x 9 of brownies can put a smile on quite a few faces!

I'm sharing my dollar!
