What brand of dog food do you buy?

We feed our wirefox terrier (he's almost 1 :) ) Innova Evo Small Bites. It's around 54 for a HUGE bag and like another PP mentioned, it's quality food with no filler (no grain/corn/byproducts) made with "human grade" meat. Corn is not a good part of a dog's diet. Some dogs can't tolerate a 100% protien food should look into Wellness Supermix (I think that's what it's called) :) . It's a great food with good grain (brown rice, barley, etc...). He eats less Innova than he would say, Purina, etc... due to the quality of the food.

I vote for Beneful healthy radiance. My vet recommends it as well. My dogs have always thrived on it. :)

I buy Wellness Supermix5 for the dog and 2 cats. One of the cats has a problem digesting certain foods and would throw up daily. Since we switched her to wellness, it has been maybe once a week that she throws up. The 2 cats go through a bag faster than the dog does (med sized terrier/shanuzer mix) and it is pretty expensive so I take advantage of sales at the pet warehouse where I buy it.

I know that I spoil them (two dashschunds, Zeke and Rex) but I do cook their food. Brown rice, frozen peas and carrots, ground beef/turkey (sometimes chicken). I have a powdered vitamin and joint supplement that I add to it while cooking. I make a couple of pounds at a time and freeze it in tupperware. I just take out what I need and keep it in the fridge. I do add some dried food (Science Diet Natural) to their bowls as well after I warm it up for them. :)

While it is a bit pricey, they eat so little that it make it affordable, at least for me.

I feed one of my Shih tzu's Life's Abundance. It's organic and not cheap but she is only 8 lbs. so the large bag lasts 3 months. She has been so healthy and we have no problems with allergies or anything. my old SHih Tzu (14 year old) eats canned Hills presription W/D canine. that is all she can tolerate. We have had issues with her stomach and everything else from allergies to anal gland issues. If she would eat dry food I would feed her Life's abundance too. She does eat it sometimes as a snack.

Do you have a Costco near you? I feed my dogs their house brand of food, Kirkland. It's a good food and has no wheat or corn ingredients. It's cheaper than the Eukanuba you used to purchase.

Kirkland brand food is quite good, esp. for the price. I alternate the lamb and rice formula with solid gold beef and barley (much more expensive unfortunately but very good).

I also have to endorse the dogfoodanalysis.com website. I hate to say it, but as a general rule of thumb, if you can buy the dog food in the grocery store or target/walmart, it's probably not very good. What you save in the short term will lead to problems in the long run with skin conditions and needing to actually feed more food since it's less nutritionally dense. For example, we used to feed Iams and we had to use almost 3 and 1/2 cups of food a day vs. 2 cups of food a day of the solid gold. Don't just price the food by the pound--price it by how much it costs for one day.

we usually use whatever I have a coupon or what is on sale--

I have used pedigree, kibbles and bits, and one of the walmart brands

Changing foods doesn't freak out your dogs stomach? Our old dog was very sensitive to changes in food and had to make them gradualy, so we stuck to one kind that worked for her.

We buy Natures Recipe Lamb & Rice for our 2 Labs. I stock up on it when it's on sale and I have a coupon for Petsmart.

We feed are Beagleman and cat Felidae and Canidae. I used to feed the cat Iams or purina and her coat would be so greasy and she would loose so much hair when I hat to cut out the balls of fur that got matted. Yes I did comb her on a regualr basis. A friend recommended trying Felidae so I did and WOW what a difference. I don't spend the money on different brushs or skin shampoo or cream. She also has way more energy now as well. The dog eats it as well and his coat and health are amazing. he goes to the groomers less because his coat is always clean. The food is a little more money but it's so worth it.

Just be careful what you decide to feed them. Watch out for fillers, byproducts. It is not healthy. Check the ingredients if it says cornmeal, chicken byproduct it's not good. :scared:

We use Eagle Pack Large and Giant Breed Puppy. We have a beautiful 1 year old American Mastiff and she goes through a 33lb bag in 3 weeks. I use PetFoodDirect.com and you can usually google a 20% coupon code to use with them, plus they participate with Ebates, so you get 4 or 5% back on top of it. $33 for a 33lb bag.

Kirkland food is a very high rated food and very affordable. If mine didn't need the large breed puppy formula, that's what I'd be feeding her.

It's funny how some of those other brands tout themselves to be so good for the dog, yet they are all fillers. Science Diet, Iams, etc. They are all junk.

We use Iams Heathly Naturals in a brown bag.
One of our friends at church is an Iams/Eukanuba distributor.
He says, "It's all about the poop!"

Sorry - hope y'all weren't eating!

I have shown dogs for years and have tried many of the brands below. I now feed raw with great results but have always liked Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers soul. I feed this now to clients dogs and when going to long shows as to not carry all that Raw food for the dogs. If you have any questions let me know.

How to grade your dog’s food: (Some brands are done at the very bottom)

Start with a grade of 100:

1) For every listing of “by-product”, subtract 10 points.

2) For every non-specific animal source (”meat” or “poultry”, meat, meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points.

3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points.

4) For every grain “mill run” or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points.

5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. “ground brown rice”, “brewer’s rice”, “rice flour” are all the same grain), subtract 5 points.

6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than 2 meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points.

7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points.

8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3 points.

9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points.

10) If the food contains any animal fat other than fish oil, subtract 2 points.

11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources), subtract 2 points.

12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points.

13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog isn’t allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points.

14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog isn’t allergic to beef), subtract 1 point.

15) If it contains salt (or sodium, as it is also called), subtract 1 point.

Extra Credit:

1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points.

2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add 5 points.

3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points.

4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points.

5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points.

6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points.

7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points.

8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points.

9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points.

10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point.

11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point.

12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than the first one; count “chicken” and “chicken meal” as only one protein source but “chicken” and “salmon” as 2 different sources), add 1 point.

13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point.

14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free add 1 point.

My dog has been eating her Vet recommended food - Science Diet - for the last 18 years, with a healthy dose of people food thrown in. Poodle/terrier mix. She recently needed a tooth removed, and we gave her some chickon soup -minus the broth after the surgery- she really really really liked that. LOL She was making little piggy noises eating it.

One of my dogs has bad skin allergies. I feed them Dick Van Patten's Natuaral Balance, either the vegetarian or sweet potato and fish or potato and duck formula. It is costly and they are large dogs too!

We have an 8month old Pitbull puppy and we feed her Beneful dry but we mix both meals each day. For breakfast she gets Beneful dry with two scrambled eggs and for dinner it's Beneful dry with a half of the Beneful wet package. The next day the breakfast is the same but for dinner she gets the Beneful dry and then we mix in chicken that I cook myself that's especially for her(no spices or anything else). The next day same breakfast but for dinner we mix the second half of the wet Beneful food with the dry. Every once and a while I'll put a tablespoon of olive oil in her food to help give her coat sheen and help so she won't get dry skin.

She's spoiled but we don't mind.

:thumbsup2 Thanks for posting this :thumbsup2

I currently use Orijen (per my breeder's advice) and also make up a mixture that contains ground beef, salmon (small tin), 1 egg, 2 cups water and cup of Urban Wolf mix (nutrients and vitamins) that my dog really enjoys :)

Currently trying to switch our two Shih-Tzus over from the Royal Canin Shih- tzu to the DVB Natural Balance Potato and Duck dry. The younger one (9 months) is not picky but my 5 year old male is another story, lol. I'm now mixing the dry with a little bit of the Halo holistic canned food to moisten it and make it more appealing for him. HE has a ritual where he has to lay in front of the bowl and stare at it, then he growls if my DDs walk by. Older DD can get him to eat by trying to take it up, he then barks at her and proceeds to gobble it all. Psycho dog!

We have three Min Pins, and have fed them Canidae for about two years--since adopting #3.

They eat less of it than most other brands and there is less dog poop to clean up when walking them or if they have an accident inside.
