What brand of clothing did you grow up asking for? (inspired by FreshTressa)

In early h.s. it was Sasson and Gloria Vanderbilt jeans (very tight!) LOL!!

Later on, it was Guess jeans (that is still all I wear now, even tho I'm bigger than I was in h.s. They are one of the few brands that fit me well.) Benetton--I miss that store, Esprit. I had a purple Members Only jacket--I loved that!!! I got it in another state, so there were only 1 or 2 other purple jackets in my school.

Also, Izod shirts. DH and I were talking about them this weekend, a store here said they were coming back and DH said he liked the ones w/ the dead alligator on them! LOL!

I had lots of Swatch Watches, also. I usually ended up buying them myself, b/c my parents didn't think I needed 10+ watches! Wonder why?!

Good thread!!

- Esprit
- Anything from The Limited, but especially the Henley shirts w/ the tag on the outside of the back of the neck (I think it said Outback Red, maybe?)
- I had a ton of Coke clothes, loved them!
- Benneton

I also coveted my Liz purses. I remember, though, for my 10th birthday, I got a Pappagallo purse & I was so excited I slept with it that night - LOL

omg...Outback Red shirts! I had totally forgotten about them. They were the must have!

levis 501 shrink to fit jeans and my levis denim jackets(in black and blue), a pair of justin boots and a stetson hat,

Levi Jeans and Frye Boots. :sunny: My brothers all wanted Chuck Taylors All Stars high tops.

Had to start working at 14 to get some. :) By that time, Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and Candies became all the rage.

First it was Levis jeans. Remember when they had stores that pretty much only sold jeans and they had cubes all over the wall with the sizes on them.
Also Jordache and Calvin Klein.
And I remember wanting those nikes with the blue swoosh on them, they had them in leather and canvas I think. We were also a family of Bradlees, KMart, and Penneys shoppers so I only got these things with my own money. I really do remember hating some of the off brand clothes my parents bought me so even when money is tight I"m a bit more generous with my kids on things like this, to a point.

I forgot about Esprit and Benetton. Benetton was United Colors of Benetton then. There's now a Benetton in my mall, but it's not the same. Also Banana Republic - only then it was safari-themed.

I forgot about my Swatch watch.

It's interesting to see some of the responses because some of these things I had forgotten about until I read them.

I still almost always buy a Liz Claiborne purse. I had to buy my 1st one myself when I was a senior in high school.

Down here we went through the phases: coca-cola clothes, Hypercolor, Z cavarichis, Girbaud, Guess, etc.

Oh and don't forget to accessorize with a Banana Clip!! :teeth:

omg...I DO remember having that big Esprit bag...I think it maybe lasted a year...and I used it as a bookbag! heheh

and the eastlands with that funky curly tie I could never do

remember the "tuck and roll" ladies? (to taper your jeans...ugh...what were we THINKING?!?!?)

the big rage at my school were the black adidas soccer sneakers with the white stripes on the side...that was one trend I never got in on though. too much $$$

ahh...the banana republic white teeshirts with the safari theme on the back...heheh..my mom: "$20 for a tee shirt! I dont' think so!"

my mom LOVED it when I hit high school, went through a phase, and only wore clothes from the army/navy store (clothes were so cheap)

Reading this thread makes me realize just how old I am.

Guess jeans (nothing else would go on my butt if I had anything to say about it - I cried the day my last pair died, really, I was devestated as they just didn't make them the same anymore after that time), Swatch watches, Bennetton (most definately a must have every season! - I now go into their few but far between stores and can't figure out what my attraction was), Izod, Polo, LL Bean blucher shoes (you also had to know how to tie the twisty knots into the laces to be able to pull these off correctly),

um, I will think of more I am sure. Is it obvious that I was the epidome of Preppy.

Izod, Levis, & Nikes. Funny, but the Izod shirts are making a comeback....LOL!

Yup I forgot the Adias Soccer shoes... had those!!!! :)

I remember when I first moved to the cape from western ma, I was going into HS. On the first day of 9th grade I tapered my jeans. OOPS what a mistake....it was still cool in Western MA but not so much on the Cape. I think I was labeled uncool based on that first day! :)

Two different color knee warmers...

two different colored slouch socks, alternated on each leg to look like checkers...

When I was in 7th grade, my Dad was in the Navy and deployed to the Phillipines. When he returned he brought home 7 Members Only Jackets. All in different colors. I wore a different color every day. I thought I was the coolest ever. The girl I was "going with" at the time, (where were we going? what were we going to do once we got there? - btw we've been married now for 10 years) loved to wear them too.

I just realized what Coke shirts everyone was talking about!! I can't believe I forgot those. I had a red, blue, and green one for sure and a couple more I think. I wonder if there are any left at my moms? I'll have to go check that out.

jpd3--- 7 Members Only jackets?!!! WOW!!! I'm impressed!! LOL!:sunny:

Oh, here's one more (and yeah, I also had to have a Coke shirt, I forgot), Laura Ashley dresses (is it becoming even more obvious that I was a Preppy).

Does anyone else find it more than a little ironic that you look back and remember how fashion conscious you were in high school and prior and look at yourself now and realize you have no fashion sense whatsoever. Is it just me? Am I the only one who was a fashionista and now puts anything laying around onto my back regardless of label?

I had to have either Sassoon, Jordache or Gloria Vanderbilt jeans (the dark, tight ones). I preferred the Gloria Vanderbilt ones and I think my mom bought the knock-off ones that had some kind of bird and not the swan on the front pocket.

Does anyone remember those little Bermuda bags with the wooden handles? The ones where you could change the bag? Loved those. Along with the shell belt buckles that you could change the matching leather belt. Of course, that was when we'd wear a turtleneck, several Izod shirts, a oxford shirt (collar up!) and a sweater all at the same time.

I'm actually just the opposite. I cringe at what I wore in high school and college that I put on without a second thought and now I'm very conscious of what I wear. Ironic nonetheless.
