Which ones did they surprise you with by not being scared?

If they were scared on day 1, did they seem to relax more as the week progressed?

Thanks

DS (almost 4 and very tall) was very frightened by Winnie the Pooh ride...freaked out and would not go on Peter Pan. He did like BTMR and SM. Basically if it was outside or partially outside he did much better. He will be 5y 8m this trip and I still think we will have issues with indoor dark rides.

Last year when my DS :earboy2: was 5 ,the FIRST ride we went on when we arrived was PoC pirate: ( loved it when I was a child), bad move on our part. Can you say therapy(sp?) :confused3

 Stitch

Haunted Mansion, Snow White... all great! Stitch  It was so awful... dd(3) was bawling... I felt so guilty for allowing her to go on it I started crying... We were late for our Cinderella Breakfast PS... They closed the entrance we were trying to get through because of a show... 1 bawling 3 yo, 1 crying mom pushing the stroller, 2 elderly grandparents... all running as fast as they can to meet up w/ the rest of their group at CRT :scared1: Of course she cried through most of our breakfast.

No... she did not get over it... she was afraid of anything she could not "see" - she loved barnstormer... had a meltdown she was so frightened before Beauty & the Beast (she did LOVE it once it started) She even had nightmares after we returned home.

I am very happy they have now raised the height requirement.

When we went in 2003 DS (then 3) was a pirate freak pirate: , so we figured he would love POC - wrong!! He was crying that he wanted to go home most of the time. He did calm down once we got to the town scenes. That night at the hotel he asked us why those pirates were trying to kill him. Poor kid, he thought they were really shooting those canons at us and he was going to die! This time, I have explained about animatronics and some may say that will ruin the magic, but I would rather that than a stressed out child. And let's not even discuss his reaction to dinosaur - never again!!! :earseek:

My kids are 9 and 7. They were so scared in the Haunted Mansion that we decided not to ride ToT in MGM!

We were shocked that HM scared them...........It's really not that frightening. I rode it as a kid, and I don't remember being scared. We looked around at kids younger than ours who were exiting the ride, and they weren't scared. Go figure.

When I was a kid (about 5 or 6), I thought that the cannon balls in PoC were real, and I kept ducking in our boat. It took some convincing from my parents that it was all "pretend," and then that became my favorite ride.

I am slightly afraid of Space Mountain, even now. :rotfl:

My daughter (8) is usually not afraid of anything, or if she is, once she's ridden it she gets over it. That being said, she refuses to go on Snow White. Hasn't gone on it since she was 3 years old - she hasn't forgotten how scared she was. She had a friend tell her how disgusting Stitch was, so we're not even going to try it.

My DD4 is very frightened by the 3D movies. We first took her when she was around 2 and she was really scared. We have taken her again since then and everytime she does better, (and she asks to go to the movies), but still when the characters "leap out" of the screen she freaks out. She is also a little scared by the dark rides (Pooh, Snow White, Peter Pan), but yet likes to go on them.

Motion rides don't seem to bother her at all, its more the dark rides. I wouldn't dream of taking her to Stitch.

I think a lot of it depends on the age of the child, and their individual personality. What totally terrifies one four year old might delight another!

We've been several times with our little guy, the last time was in June of this year. He was just over two years old then. He's never been afraid of anything at Disney World . . . so far. He's ridden every ride that doesn't have a height requirement and he's seen all the shows - including all the live shows, the 3-D shows, Wishes, Fantasmic, and Illuminations. So far, he's loved it all! He even adores the characters, which I know lots of really little ones are scared of.

We're taking him back in December, and I don't know if he'll still love everything, or if he'll be more aprehensive this time around. He's really the kind of kid who isn't afraid of much - not timid or shy or hesitant at all - so I'm hoping he'll still love everything! I guess we'll see!

I'm laughing at this thread. We've never been to WDW, but have been to Disneyland several times. The first time with the kids, my DS was probably about 8 or 9. He refused to go on HM -- was scared even before he got inside (I think from the music that plays outside). He stayed outside with my MIL, who didn't care to go either.

Our next trip, he was about 1 1/2 years older. I made him go, partly becuase no on else wanted to wait outside with him, and he cried all the way through it (mind you, he was about 9 1/2 or 10). His younger sister, who is almost 3 years younger, loved it even when she was 6. I haven't forced him to go again, and he always sits outside and waits for us to go.

He's now 22. I was talking to him about our upcoming WDW trip the end of September, which it without kids. He said, "Is there a HM there too?" I said yes, and he said, well, I guess it's just as good I'm not going then. He would still refuse to go. I don't get it, but something in his psychological makeup is very strongly opposed to this ride.

Oh--I forget to mention that dd was scared of Honey I Shrunk the Audience. We made her lift her legs right before the mouse scene, but she was still scared.

Because of this and her dislike of bugs, we had to skip ITTBAB at AK. A true bummer, because I wanted to see it.

She did LOVE Philharmagic and Muppets 3-D. We saw each of those twice.

My two sons, 8 and 10 both still get nervous about HM - they usually skip it when we are there, even though the 10 year old LOVES space mountain :confused3 Our 8 yr old was afraid to go on SM and Test Track but he really liked both of them once he tried!

It's A Small World :rotfl2: DS was so afraid I was going to make him go on this ride, I guess once was enough for him.

I have twin boys who are 5 and a 2 year old boy.

One of the twins did not like anything dark. It started on the Living in/on the Land ride in Epcot. He covered his eyes and ears. He didn't like any pretend thunder or storms in the rides...and there seemed to be a lot of storms on the rides we went on. We stayed off of any of the clearly scary rides, no thrill rides, etc but any ride which took place in the dark (nearly all of them) he covered his eyes for. We ended up having to do alot of rides over a second time so he could actually see it.

But Winnie the Pooh scared him the first time. He covered his eyes and ears. The 2 year old also cried the first time on Pooh. But both went back on the ride two more times over the course of our vacation. When the ride was over they realized it wasn't so bad and got back on.

The 2 year old screamed during astro orbitor...I thought it would be like Dumbo, but it was VERY fast.

When I was 5 DM dragged me on HM (mind you I'm terrified of the dark) :earseek: While we were waiting to get into our Doom Buggy, one of the CM actually broke character after seeing the panicstricken look on my pathetic little 5 year old face and told me that it wasn't scary, it was funny...that calmed me down a lot and now its my fav ride (although I do hate the pitch black expanding room :scared: )

That being said, my cousin (she's 12 now) is still scared of any attractions that are dark. When she was 9, it took us a good 10 minutes to get her to walk inside the Mexico pavilion. She also freaked out while we were eating the Garden Grill when are table started going past "dark" parts of Living with the Land....not exactly a relaxing meal

First ever WDW ride for DD when she was 7 was Peter Pan...I thought the child would pass out from fear right then and there. Boy was I worried about the rest of the trip!!! No worries needed, however. She liked almost everything but stayed off of Space Mt. Still not a fan of Peter Pan and now she's 9...not sure what she's afraid of, though! She won't ever do Stitch again either, but not from fear - she thinks it's awful. :flower:

My kids were 3 and 2 on our last trip and were afraid of the Peter Pan ride and the Buzz Lightyear ride, which for the life of me I can't understand. It's not too loud, it's not really dark and there's nothing scary. But my son hates it. They were nervous about getting on the Pooh ride but they enjoyed it once they were on. My daughter did alright once on Peter Pan, but my son did not enjoy himself because he was worried what would come next.

We took my son on HM when he was 7 months old and he was oblivious, but we have been hesitant to take the kids on it yet, even though I absolutely love it.

DD12 rides everything, but she's afraid of . . . SPECTROMAGIC!!!!! She is freaked out by those little doll guys that come out at the start of the parade. Isn't that weird?????

My DD is 11 and is terrified of TOT...I guess it lives up to it's name.
