What are your favorite Urban Legends?

There are a number of cats that live in Disneyland and California Adventure, but they are not 'descendants of the cats Walt brought in to promote The Aristocats'; they are simply wild cats that help keep the non-showbiz ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo rodent population under control...

Well I'm happy they let the cats live there in peace... most places would destroy them. Curious where the heck the WDW cat came from though... must have been a boarded pet that espaced? I hope kitty found a home. I'd have adopted it.. what a "magical" kitty:)

The snopes site says Khruschev did not visit Disneyland during his vistit to America. Im not quite sure if this is accurate. I just heard about it on a History Channel Documentary in my AP Euro History class. just curios if it were true or not...

Aw darn -- this piece of chipped off stone isn't what I thought it was????

I saw a cat at the Poly -- someone else posted that they saw it too. It was rather stout looking and I know was not some wild stray which made me feel better. Glad I haven't seen one at the park (cause I would want to adopt it and THREE are enough for me!) but I assume they are lurking there somewhere -- after all there are a few BIG MICE to try and catch! :teeth:

What about the ghosts that REALLY do try to come home with you after HM?????

Hi all,
one i heard that i did not believe was that when test track was first built and they were testing it a empty car went out of control and flipped over several times on the outside tracks one night.I just found out that this is true, believe it or not.So its not so much a urban legend, but i used to think it was,so does that count??

He did NOT... and that was the controversy.

He was so upset that the US would not allow him to visit (non-secure areas) that he vowed publicly that he would build "Freedomland" in the USSR that would be "better than Disneyland".

(Yes, I personally remember when this happened when I was a child.)

My favorite is the story that the towers on Cinderella's Castle are actually missile silos and are ready for nuclear warfare in the event of an attack. :rotfl2:

I read this on allearnet under the tips section when planning my trip. I wondered why they would have something like that and not in the Smithsonian

Thats exactly were it would be if it were true lol. Disney would never leave something like that in the park unprotected. We also learned that the presidential seal on the carpet at the hall of presidents is insured for a few hundred thousand dollars and it is one of the only ones that is allowed outside of washington or were the president is speaking.

Oh and there are aligators at Disney... that one is true. Oh and a TON of cats!!!

I saw a silver tabby cat in the Jurassic Park area at Islands of Adventure before, and there is a group of cats who live at my local Walmart. :cat:

We were one of the first to ride POTC on Walt's bday in 2004. We were the only "passengers" in our boat. Had read the George stories and thought it would be a kick to try it out. We said "Hello George", "Goodbye George", and several other comments directed at him. Nothing out of the ordinary happened, much to my dismay! Though, the ride is so much spookier if you're riding "alone"...recommend it if you're an early riser during value season.

anyone heard the one that a park guest happens to fall in any kind of water beside a fountain or waterplay area that they are immediately given a tetnus shot and must have bloodtests taken to insure they come up with no diseases? I find this hard to believe!
I've also heard that WDW keep their music and lights on 24/7 because the cost to shut them down and re-start is more expensive than simply running them all the time.
Another one - that park officials hide things to see if the cleaning crews are doing their jobs properly. Like pennys, or dust bunnies or whatever.
I've also heard that disney landscapers keep extra trees and flowers in a special greenhouse/wharehouse incase any are damaged and need to be replaced for aesthetic reasons.

As far as I know all of the above are indeed true..as told to us on our KTTK tour. there are brain eatting amoeba in the water in the rivers of america and jungle cruise etc. All the water is reused by disney... the clean the streets with the water and then re use it etc. You do indeed have to have a tetnus shot if your HEAD goes underwater... I believe the same is true for bay lake and seven seas lagoon.

They do hide things in bottles to get swept up by the trash sweeps and the cms that fin dthem when sorting the trash / recycles are rewarded.

I am sure Disney would have backup trees/plants as serious as they take landscaping.

Popular ones, weird ones, things you think nobody knows. There are so many at WDW, it may be fun to hear some of the greatest hits. My favorite is all that surrounds the ghost in PoTC

I thought "the" ghost was in HM? lol :rotfl2:

Exactly, and don't forget the utter drenching you take from Splash Mountain. I think Skylarr29 is showing us exactly how Urban Legends work!

Splash moutain water and of course Kali and any other water ride such as that is not the reused water.. I said water in the rivers of america and Jungle cruise. And like I said it is according to a very high up cm named Corey that gave us our KTTK tour in Sept. Maybe a cast member on here can verify that if you fall into the water on jungle cruise you will have to have a tetnus shot...... I have better things to do than to start urban legends LOL!! :rotfl2:

This was on that link Cancilla posted:

The Legend: Walt Disney released live fireflies in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Behind the Legend: On several occasions, Walt Disney tried to liven up attractions with living creatures. For example, he released fireflies into the Pirates of the Caribbean bayou scene, he put a live owl in the Snow White's Scary Adventures haunted forest, mountain goats lived on the Matterhorn for a short time, and after a particularly intense story session for Alice in Wonderland, he briefly toyed with the idea of filling the Monorail with butterflies. The descendants of the cats that Disney brought in to promote The Aristocats can still be seen throughout the park.

I've never seen a cat at Disney... tho I assume they mean disneyLAND.. has anyone?

It's a joke. :rotfl:
