I am about to pick up either Suite Francaise or Saving Fish from Drowning...both are on my nightstand. Anyone?

I haven't read Suite Francaise but I really loved Saving Fish from Drowning. Amy Tan is one of my favorite authors.:thumbsup2

Loved "Suite Francaise"....very interesting story and some really great characters. I really like reading about that time in Europe.

Hope you enjoy it:)

Reading 19 minutes by Jodi Picoult, and Fire with Fire by Allan Kahane. So far, 19 minutes has me dragging in the middle so I stopped for a little bit to read Fire with Fire. I am only in a couple of pages, and I like it so far. It's about a man who gets even with terrorists via an underground organization after his wife and child are killed in a terrorist bombing at FAO Schwartz. The tagline is "How far would you go to avenge your family, could you become what you hate?" Now if I could just find the time to sit down and get into it more.

Finished "Shopaholic & Baby" by Sophie Kinsella. V. "cute" in a light, fluffy, chick lit way. Def. not a heavy book nor one requiring much thought. If you like the other Shopaholic books, you'll like this one.

Going to restart 19 Minutes by Jodi Picoult today. I started it but it's for April book club and knew I'd never remember it all if I finished it too soon, so I had to set it aside for a bit! Cannot wait to dive back in!!!!!!

Anyone reading the new Elizabeth Berg?? A Year of Pleasures.
I think the start is moving too slow.....

Seriously? I'll take it :) I will make a list of books I was going to take to the used bookstore and PM you and we can have an even trade, if you like :)

I sent it Wed. from N.J. you should have it soon. Enjoy!:goodvibes
Let me know what you think.

I just picked up a bunch of books today, including one by Susan Wittig Albert. Has anyone ever read anything by her. She's got a bunch with China Bayles as the main character, mysteries, I think. She was recommended to me by the librarian at the library where she's doing a book signing today. I wonder what her books will be like?

Has anyone mentioned Beach Music by Pat Conroy? Or have I already mentioned it? It is my all time favorite, and I just started re-reading it for the ????? time.

I love it so much, I pick up every copy I see at yardsales, used bookstores, library sales, etc, so I can give copies to people to read it without worrying I will lose my copy.

"pot culture: the A-Z guide to stoner language & life"

by shirley halperin and steve bloom

foreward by tommy chong

seriously, an excellent reference book - and now, my DHs favorite bathroom read of all time!!!

What is this about?

I am just about done with The Book Thief. I will most likely finish it tonight or tomorrow. What an outstanding book.

I'm reading Duma Key...still...book is WAY too long, not been happy with Stephen Kings work as of late...The Cell was junk too.

Next book is Kite Runner and the book after that will be The God Delusion.... unless I can get Bonk by Mary Roach...then everything will be mixed up.

I have a whole box of books to read this year already.

I just sent you a PM!! A big public thank-you to you again! :)

After falling in love with The Prince of Tides over 5 years ago, I picked up a copy of this one. I have never gotten around to reading it. After reading your review, I think I will give it a try.

I am reading The Kite Runner right now. I tried reading it when it first came out, but found it boring. I don't know why!!! It's pretty enjoyable so far!

Could someone give me a heads-up on why this book is disturbing? PM me if you'd rather. I'm not far in the book, page 40 or so. Amir and Hassan are getting ready for the big kite race and Amir is on the room observing his dad and Rahim (I think that's his name) watching the race about to begin.

Thanks for any and all help!

Lindsay,
I don't think I could tell you why it's disturbing without spoiling some major aspects of the book. Great read, though!
Did you give up on Atonement? I was really hoping to pick that up after I finish Mistress of the Art of Death (yes, I was reading this a long time ago...bookclub got pushed back and I had to come back to it. I HATE that!).
I've had a real time getting into books lately. Not like me at all!

I'm not reading anything right now, too busy. When summer hits, look out. I'm making notes from this thread. Last year you guys really gave me some great tips!!!

In a nutshell-Beach Music is about a crazy southern family-jumping back and forth between past and present to tell all of the different characters experiences. The main character is a single dad (his wife committed suicide by jumping off a bridge) and he is trying to make sense of his life experiences. It will make you laugh out loud and cry within minutes. I read it the first time on a flight back from Hawaii, and I am sure the people around me thought I was nuts. I read a interview with Pat Conroy where he called this book "a love letter to my youngest daughter" and alludes that a lot of the book is him coming to terms with his own experiences (as seems to be the theme with lots of his books).

Pat Conroy's wife is Cassandra King, who is a pretty good author too. I especially liked Same Sweet Girls.

Like a previous poster said, a lot of the book would be given away, if we described why people find it so disturbing. Let me just say that you are very close to the most disturbing part in the book & for me what set the tone of the entire book.

As disturbing as it was, I found this book interesting & fascinating. It really tugged at the heart many times. And.................the loyalty of one of the characters is amazing.

I'm reading another Wendy Corsi Staub book. She Loves Me Not. Suspenseful. Hard to put down.

The library only had the large type, so that's what I got. I don't know why, but I didn't like getting the large type at first. But I actually like it now. :upsidedow

I just finished it. Great ending. I love her books. :)

Kite Runner was definitely a disturbing read.

Right now, I am reading The Winds of War then I am going to Netflix the miniseries. It is okay right now but it seems kind of slow. I hope it picks up.
