It was one of those books I didn't think I would really get into and then found I couldn't put it down. I found it by surfing on the Kindle books part of Amazon and read the reviews - they were all great!! So I downloaded it (breaking my "never pay more than 9.99 for a Kindle edition" rule because I forgot to check the price - I think it was 11.99 instead). So worth it!!! I really liked the story and the characters were so well done. Just a really, really good book, I thought.

I'm currently reading Jodi Picoult's Handle With Care, Wendy Spero's Microthrills, and I just finished Judith Viorst's book about her son Alexander (remember him? He had a no good, very bad day!) and his wife and 3 children living with her and her husband for three months while they were doing some home renovations. It was cute..

How's the Picoult book?
Predictable? Or not?
Thanks.

To be honest, I don't like it. I haven't read any of her books in a few years but I remember enjoying My Sister's Keeper and the one about the dog tracking person, I think (haha, guess I didn't enjoy it THAT much!!) And I LOVED The Pact when I read it in my book club years ago.

But this one didn't grab me. For one thing, it began in Disney World and I was reading it while I was there, so I expected warm fuzzies. I got something else instead. And - I must confess - I read the ending and was REALLY disappointed.

I'm about halfway through so I'll finish it tonight or tomorrow but I probably won't read another of hers unless I hear really excellent reviews. Then again, the reviews on Amazon WERE pretty excellent, so I don't know...

Death From The Skies! These are the ways the world will end by Philip Plait Ph.D

Rumspringa by Tom S (cant remember last name)

"Whistling Season" by Ivan Doig. It's cute so far - a coming-of-age story of a homesteading family set during the turn of the century in Montana. I just finished "American Son" about two teen Filipino brothers trying to survive in gangland LA, and "Stones from the River" about a German dwarf who hides Jews in Nazi Germany during WWII.

I just picked up "the Story of Edgar Sawtelle" at a library sale (a bargain for $2.00) and cannot wait to start it!

"you're broke because you want to be: how to stop getting by and start getting ahead" by larry winget (from A&E's Big Spender)

I just finished reading Cutting for Stone by Edward Verghese. This is a story about an identical twin who was born of a nun and a surgeon in Ethopia. It is the story of how that happened and how their lives turned out. Very good character development. Good story.

Do you mean Abraham Verghese? He was a graduate of the Iowa Writer's Workshop and a former faculty member of the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He came and gave a lecture to our medical students when his book "The Tennis Player" was published - an autobiographical account of his friendship with a young medical student who struggles with drug addiction. Another excellent book, by the way.

Deb, it IS Abraham. I am going to read his other two books as well - I really liked this fiction and his nonfiction has been getting great reviews as well. Off to download now...:)

I'm reading the Watchmen graphic novel. Mostly becuase its the onyl thing around here I haven't read. lol I really need to go to the library I did finish 2 books by Sherrilyn Kenyon this weekend from her Dark hunter series.

I'm so enjoying this Kindle! I've been reading a lot of these throw away trashy Harlequins that they have for free, now I'm on a Heather Graham, she writes mystery romances with supernatural elements. I read The Vision yesterday, now I'm working my way through The Seance. SHe's quick. I"m on a list at the library for Corsair by Clive Cussler and Jack DuBrul. I love their stuff but the Kindle download was over $15, so I figured I'd read it first from the library since I read their stuff so quick, then I'll purchase the Kindle version if they drop the price.

I guess it goes to show how different people are. I absolutely LOVED the book! I read a lot, yet that was one of my favorite books ever. Was "My Sister's Keeper" the one about the sister who sued because she didn't want to be a donor for her sister? Because I really didn't like that one-how it ended. I thought the ending was a cop-out. It's hard to recommend books-everyone's likes are so different.

Some of them weren't bad at all. I tried to read one of the "vamp" ones though and gave up after a few pages. Too weird. But then I remember that a lot of the authors I enjoy started out writing Harlequins..... SO far, both Heather Graham and an author named Carla Neggers have caught my interest lately. Funny thing about Carla Neggers, I had never heard of her till I tuned my XM to the "book" channel and someone was reading an excerpt from what was, according to my XM, one of her books. Book seemed interesting so I checked it out of the library. Here's where it gets funny.... this book was not the same book they were reading, but it held my interest. I've since read another one of hers and have one I bought in paperback before the Kindle arrived. :) Yippee, I love it when I find another new author!

I'm trying to get through All the Pretty Horses, by Cormac McCarthy. It's really tough going for someone who is used to quotation marks. It's a good story, it's just tough to tell who's speaking at times.

Next up is "The Queen's Fool" by Phillipa Gregory
