I recommended this before, but I am going to do it again. If you want a nice light mystery/romance with a bit of Ancient Egypt history, this book is really good:

Soul and Shadow by Susan McLeod. She is a friend of mine but I would recommend this book if she wasn't! Check out all the other reviews on Amazon.

Also, I have to say she is having a very difficult time, lost her job and her mother within a month of each other. And now she is going to lose her house.

Has anyone read books by Alice Hoffman? Someone mentioned to me that she was a good author & liked her books. Any input?

I'm about to start The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb, and am also in the process of re-reading Angels and Demons. I want to be refreshed on the story when the movie comes out

Both wonderful books!

I am reading a truly horrendous "bodice ripper" -- because my neighbor lent it to me, and I don't want to return it after 3 months and not have read it. ;)
(it's one of those books that you don't want other people to see the cover -- half naked woman swooning on some studly man).

After that, I am re-reading the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters.

The Color Purple (Just finished this for my United States History Honors class)
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Just finished for English II Honors)
It Happened to Nancy
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I'm the kind of girl who reads 3, 4, 5 books at one time!

While I am waiting for the next Stephanie Plum's to become available at the library, I am finishing off the Lily Bard series by Charlaine Harris. Finishing up Shakespeare's Counselor now.
What do you think of the Shakespeare books? I read the first quickly and thought maybe I'll pick the series back up when I have nothing better to read. Did it get better after the first? I enjoyed it, but it was an easy read to put down and I don't like to be able to put my books down.

I am reading the Sookie Stackhouse books for the 2 1/2 time. I'm also reading the short stories as they become available at the library. I'm waiting for a lot of books to be checked back in at the library. One is Dead Witch Walking. Has anyone read this?

Please let me know how you like it. I haven't read it, but it looked like it might be interesting.

My husband recommended it to me, he loved it, and has been recommending it left and right. DS12 is reading the young readers edition.

so, based on DH.. i'll recommend it as well.

Finally broke down and read the 1st three of the Twighlight series. I like continuation stories as I get "hooked" into the world. I'm going to try to get out to get the 4th today :thumbsup2

I'm also ready the Stephanie Plum by the #s books. I've read the 1st three and need to get out to get the next :)

Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander series)

and I started re-reading Memoirs of a Geisha in preparation for my trip to Japan.

This is an amazing book! I loved it! It made me re-think my opinion of the Middle East. Very thought provoking. So well written, too. It reads like fiction, even though it's not.

I liked the Shakespeare series, jst finished them up last week. They are good filler books while waiting for something else to become available, light, easy reading. I really liked he Harper Connely series also by Charlaine Harris, I really liked the first book.

I too finally broke down and read Twilight. While I understand the fascination with the book, it was not my cup of tea. I found myself rolling my eyes and skipping over pages describing the intense angst of Bella and Edward. Kind of like the Jodi Picoult books. The first one I read (The Pact) really sucked me in. However I found that most of her books follow the same formula and the characters are somewhat interchangeable.

Just started Palace Walk, the story of an Egyptian family in post WWI Cairo. Will report back on it once I get into it.

I thought the Shakespeare books got much much better after the second or third. You get to know the characters more and they are much more sympathetic. I felt the same way about the Aurora Teagarden books. Now I am hoping that more volumes of these come out quickly!

And I am reading Jim Butcher right now, thanks to all the rec's on the Dis!
