What are you afraid of? Unreasonable fears

Touching ice with my fingers- I'll drink something with ice if someone gets it for me otherwise I'll drink it hot. Everyone in my family and work know about it, and they work with me. LOL:rotfl2::rotfl2:

My fears are completely irrational and I am not sure why I am so scared but here goes.

I am terrified of cotton! Not like cotton clothes, or table clothes etc but liek the actual cotton plant, cotton balls, q-tips, the cotton they stuff intot he top of pill bottles. Ugh just the thought is giving me the chills. Something about the way it feels.. it makes my teeth hurt... if that makes any sense

My other fear is of cartoons. I am not scared of anything on Disney or Noggin for instance, but any of the stuff on cartoon, a couple of nicktoons (especially older ones like ren and stimpy and rockos modern life) Family guys, and if anyone has ever seen the tv show "Lucky Louie" you know the opening sequence with the cartoon people? OMG I couldnt even listen to the music because I could picture it in my head... Gives me nightmares!!

OMG!! I didn't put it in my first post because I have never considered it a fear, more like a STRONG desire to NEVER EVER EVER touch cotton. I shiver just thinking about it. My bf has a package of cotton balls that has been sitting in the closet forever and I can't bear to throw it out because when I think of the cotton rubbing against the plastic I get all freaked out.

Another one I forgot, touching belly buttons. I don't fear the bellybuttons themselves but touching or putting your finger in your belly button (or someone elses') makes me gag. There have been a few movies where the comedian sticks his finger in his belly button and I feel like throwing up.

general anesthesia

the "down" escalator (I can go up on an escalator, but not down)

airplanes

Buffalo or bison! I don't even know how it originated, but they have those beady eyes and gross hair around their heads! Don't know if it was from Country Bear Jamboree, but it was just buffalo/bison and not any of the other animals. If I read on a TR that someone was planning on going to see that show, I can't read the rest for fear of a picture.

I totally forgot they were in Living with the Land so of course, I freaked out since I was sitting all the way to the right. I yelped, and shoved my face into my mom's shoulder as my heart raced. I'm almost 25, btw, haha.

Hate them in the American Museum of Natural History dioramas but I had no choice but to walk by because I was chaperoning a field trip for my class at our church's summer school! I had 2 girls on each side of me, holding my hands and leading me by the huge display as I had my eyes closed.

When I watched Night at the Museum with my boyfriend, I caught a glimpse of them in the background and screamed. I hid in BF's shoulder. I wouldn't open my eyes again until he told me Ben Stiller wasn't in that room anymore.

I guess I shouldn't tell you that Bull Sharks have been found as far north as Illinois in the Mississippi river. They'll go in fresh water with no problems.. they've even been found in Lake Michigan.

I know!!:scared1::scared1: they survive quite well in fresh water
I watch Shark Week on Discovery every year just to scare the life out of me a little more than I already am!

I am deathly afraid of vacuums in pools and swimming in deep ends of pools at night. Especially when you cannot see the water below you.

:sad1:

Bees/wasps/flyingstingingthings are my main fear. I've been away at college for all of a week now, and I called home crying hysterically the other day because there was a wasp in my bathroom and my roommate wasn't here to take care of it.

I'm also terrified of something happening to my teeth. I HATE going to the dentist, hated having braces (I thought my teeth would break, especially when they were popping the brackets out of the the cement when I got the braces off... OMG I was scared), and when I hear stories like "I broke my tooth on a cheeseburger" my heart starts racing.

I also hate being trapped, especially by people. I'm fine in Mission Space and even in most crowds, but last year at Night of Joy waiting for the last TobyMac concert... There was such a tightly packed sea of people all around and I couldn't handle it. I started hyperventilating and telling my brother, "You have to clear a space for me NOW". He's a big guy so he moved around a bit and cleared about a foot on each side of me, so I could breathe a bit better.

ETA: One more thing, kind of silly... I'm terrified of something happening to my little toes. I don't like walking around without at least socks on, because I'm afraid that my little toe will catch on a corner of some piece of furniture or something and snap.

OMG, just to see a rat or mouse on TV does me in for the evening. I will dream about the nasty little creatures!!

I'm an ambulance-a-phobic. Which isn't good since I've got a a chronic illness. I can't stand seeing those old station wagon/hearse style ones from the 1960's. They freak me out. I can't watch old war movies from WW1 or WW2. I have to fast forward through the ambulance parts. I only like the boxy style ones they have now and they have to be fire department ones. I don't like European sirens and I don't like old sirens from anything before 1980 in the US.

I'm also scared of old movies or TV shows that are set in hospitals or mental wards. If the people are wearing all white outfits, I can't watch it. Sometimes I can't even watch MASH. I don't like the white outfits and I really don't like the weird green surgical scrubs/gowns they had in the 60's-70's. They creep me out. I'll have nightmares. I refuse to watch MASH past 9 pm. I have to be able to watch something afterward before I sleep.

Creeped out by old hospital equipment. Don't like seeing that stuff either. If it's pre-1980, I don't want to see it.

But, if that wasn't weird enough, I'm addicted to the show Emergency! With Randolph Mantooth and Kevin Tighe from the late 60's, early 70's. I know every episode by heart now and know when to look away when it's got something I don't like. Randy Mantooth makes my heart skip a beat... Good old Johnny Gage! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

I love firemen, but I used to be afraid of their turnout uniforms as a kid. I wouldn't go anywhere near them, in fact I'd run the opposite direction. I didn't like coats. But I love the helmets. :confused3

I also used to be afraid of buses when I was a kid. Didn't matter if it was a city bus, school bus, whatever. I hated them. I'd actually freak out and have a panic attack. It took everything I had as a kid to ride the school bus once or twice a year for field trips and I hated bus drills.

Yes, I'm a nut job! But I'm OK with it...

Oh, I forgot to add that I have a fear of large ships, but the worst are the cargo ships. They really freak me out. I had to go on one once when it was in port and I had to do deep breathing. Once I get on, I'm OK, I just have a thing about the hull. I don't like seeing any rust on them (which oh like 99% of them have). I also don't like being able to see the rivets. I'm always afraid that they'll pop out and the ship will sink.

I don't like when I can see the wiring on a ship like when I've gone on old battle ships.

I HATE dentists. I refuse to go to them unless I'm in excruciating pain. I actually told my parents when they sold the lot next to them that they had to buy it back because they sold it to a local dentist.

I really hate loud noises, but my worst fear would have to be zombies. One odd thing I have noticed is if I drink hot chocolate before I go to bed I have bad zombie apocalypse nightmares. I try to only drink hot chocolate in the morning or afternoon now. :3dglasses

I can't ride in a boat/ship under a bridge. I have a fear that the bridge will collapse and fall on my boat and I'll drown. I also have a fear that I'll go overboard and be washed into the bridge supports, go unconscious and drown.

I hate cleaning under the cushions on the couch. I don't like the possibility of having to touch the nasty stuff that lives under them.

I don't cook because I don't like touching the food that's left over in the pots/dishes/etc when I have to wash them. I especially hate macaroni and cheese.

biscuit cans. They make a freaky exploding sound that makes me jump, then ooze a brain matter like substance out the side! YIKES!!!!

I couldn't even watch that Mythbusters when they put the cans in the hot car to see how hot it needed to be before they busted.:confused3

LOL! I forgot about THAT one, it Creeps me out too!:scared1: I cannot even bang it on the counter, I have to leave the room and DH has to do it...:headache:

:rolleyes1Squirrels! The newer Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie sent me in to a panic attack in the bathroom. (squirrel scene!):scared1:

2 *now 3*weird random things that creep me out are:

1. 18th Century paintings. They give me the willies. Especially ones with children in them. Just knowing that the people in the pics are long dead, combined with the pale white faces, gets me every time. Now that I mentioned that, I will add a surprise 3rd creepy thing that I just thought of right now.

2. The Honeymooners TV show. Can't explain it-I cannot watch it. Not even a clip of it. I Love Lucy has a similar effect on me, but is more tolerable for no good reason whatsoever.

3. Powdered Wig people with rouge on. Like George Washington and those dudes from back then. Creepshow!

:rolleyes1Squirrels! The newer Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie sent me in to a panic attack in the bathroom. (squirrel scene!):scared1:

Yeah I was a alittle freaked by it to.
My friend had a squirrel in his ac.

He called me of all people to help him influence the sqireel to find a new home.
It was a very crazy afternoon.
Pepper spray , Brooms, a intense staredown session, an american flag and a lot of drinking afterward.

Somewhere out there is a confused, homeless squirrel, who misses his american flag blanky and smells of tabasco sause. If you see him tell him I said hello.

Needles. I recently had my wisdom teeth out and had to get an iv. I was a little dehydrated and they couldn't find a vein. I freaked out during the needle, it didn't work so they had to stick me 5 TIMES.
Then they decided just to have me come back and gave me an anxiety pill to calm me down next time. When I came back, I didn't feel a thing.
I still hate needles. I have panic attacks around them.

OH. I live in Florida but I have a fear of the Ocean or Gulf. I freak out if I see fish near my feet or if I can't see where I am swimming.

I knew somebody with a profoundly bizarre and irrational fear.

About ten years ago, I got a hysterical call from my neighbor across the street. She was crying and begged me to come over right away. So I ran there like a bad outta you know where, she screamed for me to come up the stairs which I did and I found her in the bathroom, pointing to the open tank on the toilet crying and screaming. I had NO idea what was going on in her mind. I tried to pull her out of the bathroom, but she was frozen. I kid you not. She still had the phone in her hands and had gripped it so hard her knuckles where completely white. It was so weird.

Somehow she managed to relay to me that the lid to the toilet tank was off. So I looked in there thinking there must have been something really awful inside. I was thinking there was a piranha in there or something, maybe her kids played a prank. But I saw nothing, closed the lid on the tank and she gradually went from crying and screaming to sobbing and after about ten minutes I was able to get her out of there, sit her down and ask her what in the heck happened.

Turns out she had an extreme, irrational and unnatural fear of the tank of toilets if the lid wasn't on them. She's fine if the lid is on, no problem. But one of her kids took it off when the toilet didn't flush right and forgot to put it back. She went in there and panicked.

I have never forgotten that and wondered countless times what could cause such a bizarre fear. I can imagine what causes most fears, but an open toilet tank? She says she has no memories of bad experiences with toilet tanks. :confused3

Ever sense my car broke down last year I have been afraid to drive on the highway. And I didn't even have my break down on the highway. But sense then I have been taking the long way around to wherever I need to go.

The last time I drove on the highway I had some sort of panic attack. It felt like I was outside of myself and had no control over my body. I started to shake, and my heart was beating really fast.:scared1:

I used to drive all of the time, and this fear is really making my so frustrated with myself!
