OK - I just got back from a few days at WDW and I just have to know . . .

What are those annoying bugs that fly around and look like they're glued together at their bums???

They were all over the CSR bus stop and even the WDW RailRoad.

Thanks,

LOL, those are called lovebugs....they are always around here at this time of year. They don't hurt anyone but are quite annoying.

My question is, what is the deal with the huge bugs that act like mosquitos at WDW? When we were sitting outside at the AKL one landed on my leg and bit me like a mosquito, but I felt it when it stuck me! Then it bled where it had bitten me like I had been stuck with a syringe, OW! It acted like a mosquito bite and became all itchy but lasted longer than a normal bite. We saw the same bugs again when we played mini golf on that trip.

Any ideas?

Love bugs can be in such large groups at times that they appears as a black colored fog on the highway in south Georgia. They are not nearly as annoying as the mosquitos have been this year.

Have seen those icky love bugs...but never this bloodsucker that you describe, stitch79. Perhaps you can start a new thread ["Questions for Orlandoites..."] & see if anyone knows.

Oh, BTW...we drove down last time when those pesky love bugs were out & got our car detailed when we returned home because we heard the acid from their bodies can damage the car's finish. Just an FYI in case you had your own vehicle in WDW.

We were at Disney in May and we saw the love bugs (the ones that are flying glued together - love bugs :-) BUt, we also had to deal with the dreaded deer flys - ouch! Those things bite hard. We noticed them at dusk.

We saw them too all last week! We figured it was mating season :). They were the only things we were glad to be rid of when we left Orlando, only to find two of them on my bedroom wall yesterday morning. They must have hitched a ride in our clothes or suitcase!

No one mentioned bugs in the travel brochure!!! Does deep woods off keep them away? I hate bugs!! When do the love bugs leave? I dont care for being bit by an unknown bug in an unknown environment (Im from NJ and am very familiar w/ my hometown insects- dont like them either!).
...adds benadryl and deep woods off to packing list...

Darn love bugs. This was the only disappointment of our trip! They were out this August but I don't remember seeing them last August. They only bothered us when we were at the marina or on a pontoon boat. My kids commented that the bugs looked like CAT DOG from Nickolodean (sp?). They seemed to fly in flocks. My son would wack them to keep them off me. The marina CM couldn't believe the amount of dead love bugs that were on the boat when we returned.

They don't bite, they're just annoying, flying in packs the way they do. I heard that they were originally introduced into FL to eat the mosquitos. And they actually eat....fruit. Who woulda thunk it? Oh well....

As if FL needs another useless bug....

Oh my Gosh... those things were everywhere... my daughter thought they were a bug with 2 heads.

They move pretty slow though so you can swat them easily..

They are latched together and facing away from each other, both flying opposite directions, they tend to "hover" , Stormalong Bay was COVERED with them... and there were many squished ones around.
