just got my revised itinerary and they put an insurance flyer inside the envelope.it states that they'll pay you $5 for your points upon cancellation or interuption.only $5?do you get your points back or do they become property of the insurer?what are the pros and cons with these guys?

As far as I know, the insurance company is not DVC or any branch of the Disney corporation.

Your point status depends entirely on when you cancel and the DVC rules. In other words, you might get your points back into your currrent use year, you might end up with points in the holding account, you may or may not be able to bank them or you might lose them entirely. The insurance company doesn't (can't) give you any points back and they don't get any points from you, either - they just give you the $5/per point if you have a qualifying cancellation or trip interruption.

We've elected to self - insure all of our trips to Disney. So far we've been lucky.

I personally don't think the insurance is worth it - seems to cost more than I'd recover, especially if I don't have to cancel every trip.

JMHO. YMMV.

Best wishes -
