What are SPG and points/etc?

I read this in many many posts on many many threads (LOL) about the Dolphin/Swan resorts. But I don't know what SPG means (gold/plat/etc) and what was all the talk about points?

Does that have something to do in relation to DVC?

LMK. I'm so lost now. LOL
