What about NO fast pass at all?

You're supposed to be a bit spoiled on vacation, especially when you're going a place designed to be nothing more than a vacation spot.

Disney is trying to make money. They get more people to come by giving them the feeling that they can have some kind of edge from standing in lines all day. Who wants to pay big bucks to get in someplace and be stuck in lines all day?

What do we do (at least should we do) as parents when our kids b**tch and complain and act spoiled and unhappy with what we give them? We take it all away! How do like that kids?! Daddy Disney should take it all away because of all the whining and complaining about FP+

Seriously though, what would touring be like with no fast passes for anyone? I am sure this has been discussed but I think I might be able to live with it. You could still get a lot done at rope drop and near close and the middle of the day waits would not be as bad without all the fast passers holding up the standby line. What is the worst thing about waiting in the standby line, STANDING AND NOT MOVING for periods of time as hundreds of fast passers move in front. Yes the lines would be long still in the middle of the day but WE WOULD BE STEADILY MOVING FORWARD. By logic, all standby waits would be shorter than they are today. It would be fair for everyone.

What a brilliant idea!

Disney should totally punish those whiny paying customers by giving them even more reason to complain. That'll show those customers. After all, Disney doesn't care about making money, they just want to stick it to those whining DISers!

When I said "spoiled", what I meant was before FP, no one thought twice about having to stand in long lines, it was accepted that was the way it was. Then FP came along, no longer having to stand in long lines (if you knew how to use it). The topic of this thread is "what if Disney had no fastpasses". Since people have experienced the convenience of fastpass, they will not want to go back to the old way of standing in line because they got used to it (which is what I meant by "spoiled"). I'll admit, I'm spoiled.

Many don't even want to go to a system of 3 per day, that's not good enough. They want unlimited for any ride. If they don't get what they want, they are cancelling their trips. The issue is that once the system is rolled out, it may not have the capacity of unlimited for everyone. They are testing what the limits are. I don't think this is the final version of FP+, I think it will evolve as they move forward. I'm hoping that any fastpasses left will be available to reserve on the actual day (in addition to your 3). If they allowed unlimited in advance, there would be none left. Which I don't think Disney wants to do because it will stop people from planning a visit last minute.

I think the issue with WDW MK is there aren't that many rides....DL MK has more attractions and the lines are shorter....I was never a FP type...but if I go back now I guess I will have to convert

What's interesting is FP is less used at DL compared to WDW. For example, at the MK in WDW there are 40 attractions 10 of them with FP-. At DL, there are 52 attractions 7 of them with FP. All of WDW was 25 fp- attractions, DL & DCA has 13.

Amongst common (or extremely similar rides), DL resort does not have FP on Buzz Lightyear, It's tough to be a bug, Pooh, Toy Story Mania, Captain EO, Barnstormer/Gadget go coaster. and Little Mermaid that are FP attractions at WDW. WDW does not have FP- for Autotopia/Tommorowland Speedway that has FP at DL. Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Soarin', Dinosaur/Indy, Grizzy/Kali and RSR/TT are FP attractions at both parks.

Disneyland had FP on TSMM originally but dropped it and the wait times went down.

You mean besides the thousands of people who go to Cedar Point every summer? And can't leave line for any reason, even bathroom breaks, without having to go to the back of the line?

Disney also doesn't want most of their guests standing in lines. When everyone stands in lines no one is spending money (shopping or eating).

Having everyone standing in lines for every ride isn't a good business model -- it leads to unhappy guests who don't like standing around so much which means those guests don't spend money when they are in line or when they are unhappy.

I know no one in my family has the patience or desire to stand in line after line. With the old/regular fast pass system I don't recall standing in line for longer than 20 minutes ever for all of our many many trips over the past five years (I can't remember back to the older trips over five years ago - lol!).

While I in general like the new FP+ system (I had the opportunity to experience it before they instituted the tiers) I have a real issue with them limiting the number of FPs. We are booking a trip in May with my oldest crew but if they spend too much time in lines with whatever FP+ looks like in May then it may be one of our last trips to Disney. Standing in line is not my idea of a good vacation. However the nice side of FP+ is the ability to sleep in and not having to head into the parks until later in the day.

Fastpass did not increase the number of people that could ride an attraction in a given time. All it ever did was split it into two lines with priority given to the FP line. Same number of people rode it regardless, the difference was that the standby line ended up being much slower because people that weren't previously in line before you were now able to walk right on in and leave you standing.

I firmly believe that those that swear by FP are not taking into account the additional time that they are spending in Standby lines that they couldn't get a FP on.

OP here. My intent was not to offend anybody by using the words "whiny" and "spoiled", it was hyperbole. I was just wondering if keeping it simple and not having fast pass at all might actually be a decent option. The quote above echoes what I was thinking. I really think the stand-by lines would be much more tolerable at the headliners with no fast pass. Walk on? no. 5 minutes? no. But you would be moving forward and not standing still so much. And you could get some walk-ons at rope drop.

It could work. For one, you'd have people here that would stop going altogether if they ditched FP.

But, I think the horse is out of the barn at this point. It would be one thing is FP had only been around for a couple of years. But, it's been far longer than that.

I think all of this will die down at some point. In the meantime, it makes for interesting, and sometimes comedic, reading.

We went theis past September and never used one fast pass. We are rope droppers and walked onto toy story mainia. I actually wished we had a longer line because I wanted to really see all the cute stuff whilst waiting for the ride. I can figure out why people run to the fast passes instead of going right in the ride? The longest time we waited was for test track, it had broken down and we came back a little while later and it was about an hour wait. We stayed about 5 days are had a good time. No fast passes can be done. I am not excited at all about the new system, it seems like so many problems and aggravations, I really don't want to deal with all that on vacation.

Most people don't devote 2 days to the Studios. This means that in order to ride TSMM and RnRC with minimal waits, you have to arrive at rope drop, grab a FP for one, go immediately to the other and ride standby, and then return at your FP time for the first one. TSMM is closer to park entrance, so many people grab FP for TSMM and then go ride RnRC standby. I did this on my trip last January and it worked great.
