Last Monday I started having shortness of breath, went to the doctor on Tuesday and had blood work done and an EKG (normal). Wednesday had a chest x-ray (normal). She did start me on blood pressure medication as my pressure has been on the high side for awhile now. Then I was to do a glucose tolerance test this week, so stopped at the doctor's office to pick up the diet sheet and told them I was still having shortness of breath (this was now Friday) so the nurse said she would talk to the doctor and may give me a call. About an hour later they called, wanted me to go to the hospital for a spiral scan so went to do that. Said they would call if anything showed up. They called. Severe pulmonary embolism in both lungs. Had to get right back to the hospital and be admitted, and started on heparin. Blood draws every 6 hours and sometimes in between. Plus I found out I am diabetic. And after my thyroid surgery in May, my thyroid is not functioning properly so I'm now on medication for that as well. Spent 4 nights in the hospital and just came home late yesterday afternoon. Am on glucophage for the diabetes, but do have to test my blood 4 times daily.

I'm so glad to be home, but if any of you can offer support, prayers, or good thoughts I would sure appreciate it!! Thanks!!

maybe you will feel better real soon......I hope so......I will be thinking of you and here are some hugs and prayers coming your way......if you ever need to talk or vent ......we are always around.....

Oh my goodness, you've been through the mill.........pulmonary embolisms can be so serious!!!

I'm glad to hear that you're on the mend and hope you continue to recover...wow...you really did get hit hard, didn't you?

Lots and lots of prayers and good thoughts headed your way.

My doctor put me on it two weeks ago with a warning about GI upset. Boy, he wasn't kidding. I spent days in the bathroom, just sitting and waiting.. It was awful. Fortunately he said I could try a longer acting version that doesn't have this sort of side effect.

Wow, it sure sounds like you have been through a heck of a lot!!! Tons of prayers and good thoughts are heading your way {{{hugs}}}

{{{HUGS}}} I hpe you start feeling better very soon. PD on its way :)

Oh my gosh, I thought that I had a bad week! We had rising water in the streets, and it will most likely get worse.

You really have been through a lot this week. :(

Hope you feel better really soon!:D

Bless your heart! You have had a scary week. Those pulmonary emboli can be very serious. I'm so glad you are well enough to go home from the hospital.

My husband is typeII diabetic. He controls his blood sugar with diet. Take care of that carefully, he didn't keep his blood sugar under control at first and ended up with two heart attacks and by pass sugery. Keep your sugar under control so that you can avoid that.

You are so very lucky that your doc took you seriously and did what needed to be done in a timely fashion. A friend of mine lost his daughter to this same condition about a year ago. Her doc just gave her antibiotics and a puffer.

I am so glad that you are starting to feel better again. My daughter is also taking glucophage and so far is tolerating it okay. Maybe your body just needs to get used to it? Are you taking the "XR" pills?

Here's to a better week!!!!

I hope next week is better for you, Chattyaholic. {{hugs}} I'm glad the dr's are doing so much to help you.:)

((((HUGS)))). That's an awful week but thank goodness you were properly diagnosed and received good medical treatment. That's a week you'll be glad is over.

Sorry to hear of your terribly horribly bad week.... but on the other hand I am happy to hear that you got good medical care and are on the mend. You had a big scare with the embolisms..

I am a type I diabetic... long time standing....
I am glad that you were made aware of your type II diabetic status.. lots to learn but once you learn how to manage your diabetes with help from a dietician and your doc you will be able to maintain your active lifestyle. Best wishes!

Joan

{{{{{hugs}}}} Hope you are feeling better soon!!!

I'm so sorry you had to go through all of that. I hope you are feeling much better. :)

My DH was hospitalized last year for something else and was told he has diabetes. It came as quite a shock to us, so I can relate to what you are going through. He was put on glucophage but the support and information we got concerning diabetes education was very minimal. We have given up on the regular Dr. and are going to see an endocrinologist about the diabetes next week.

Like Katholyn's DH, he has had success with controlling his blood sugar through diet. I would encourage you to pm Kath and talk to her about it when you are ready.

I know it's all overwhelming right now. I'm still pretty new to this, but you can pm me to talk any time. :)

So glad you ended up with the proper medical care! Take care, and continued success managing your diabetes.:D

I'm sorry you're having a lousy week! :( I hope that you're feeling much better by now.

I just wanted to mention that I take meds for cholesterol, BP & thyroid in addition to my insulin. On my last visit EVERYthing was messed up because of my thyroid levels. They fixed my dosage & my sugar & BP went down almost right away & my cholesterol is much better already too. Hopefully, when they get yours straightened out everything else will fall in line, too. (Of course, it may be different for me because I'm a type I diabetic.)

Good luck!
