I'm looking at getting a Cannon PowerShot 5S IS?? I'm not looking forward to spending the $$ on it, but I don't want to go to big, I'm a total novice at picture taking so I'm not looking at spending more than $350 on a camera.
My dd is needing a point and shoot digital that she can take pictures with in the park, and since I have the cutest little pink Sony (very similar to your wifes ps) I figure I can give it to her and then get myself a new one. (Like a girl needs an excuse to buy something new, but at least I found one to make me feel a little better about spending the money). What do you think? I'm not one to start out with something full throttle, I usually take a little time to get into something, so do you think this is a decent camera or do you think there something else that's better to start?

It takes great pictures and does have some manual modes so you can set things yourself if you chose to. I still haven't mastered all that it can do and I have had it 2 years now. Thanks for the info. Now the next question is what am I suppose to do with the paint chip. Yes, I think I snag about 8 of them.

Welllllllllllllllllllll, if your a total nut like me, you buy a grommet set, yes I said grommet set, and some self laminating plastic, some ribbon and then go to town! I first cut around the LGMH, I try and get under the head as much as possible to cut away as much of the back as possible. (Or you can peel it off, I don't like my LGMH to be flimsy so I cut them) Then I stick the two heads wrong sides together with a thin layer of glue so it looks like the head is the same on both sides. Let dry. Then I put it between the laminate paper and press hard smoothing out any bubbles, keep smothing until happy and then I cut out a nice 1/4 inch around the head so I won't make the laminate paper come apart. Then I use a hole punch and make a nice hole at the top of the head, and then I use my grommet set, once I go through the process of putting the grommet onto the LGMH then I string my lime green ribbon through the grommet hole and done! I tie them to our luggage, back packs, and bags we carry in the parks. I spot our luggage right away with these and Disers see our bags and know we are other Disers. It's a lot of fun. My family of course (along with you and many others now) thinks I'm totally nuts, but they didn't when they had seen how many people talked to me who were other Disers. I also placed them on our window in our room (we stayed at the POP) so we could decorate the window for fun and to let other Disers there at the POP know that I was rooming there, I even had another Diser leave me a note to say hello. I loved it!
Next time we go to WDW I will have a small magnetic dry eraser board to put on the door and marker so other Disers can leave me messages.
That's what I do with them.

I am not sure when is our next trip yet. It's hard to say right now. I will cover more on that at the end of the TR.

I think you probably talking about Canon PowerShot S5 IS, not 5S IS. I don't have any experience with that camera. However, here is a site you can find out specs and review on every digital camera that ever exist. http://www.dpreview.com Just do a quick search on camera database and you will find what you are looking for.

After I did a quick scan on the specs, only comment I have with the S5 IS is it use 4AA battery. That would be a deal breaker for me. The last thing you need is to keep buying battery for the camera. For over $300, the camera should come with its' own rechargeable battery and not use regular AA battery. The Nikon P80 I bought for DW only cost $250 and it came with its' own Li-ion rechargeable battery.

For that kind of price, you need something a little more convenience. I know Nikon price has went up but you still can buy the P80 from Amazon for under $300 free shipping and came with a rechargeable battery. Something you might want to consider.

Thank you for chiming in. Those Canon PowerShot Advance Digital Camera are good camera. I just hate to buy batteries. For the PowerShot, I think you have to spend close to $600 in order to comes with the rechargeable battery. For that kind of price, you can get a Nikon D60 DSLR with a kit lens and still get some change back.

Here is a little advice for every inspire photographer. Camera is just a tool. Some might have more fancy tool than the other. Your vision is the most important part of photography. How you see from the view finder and how to present the picture is the key component. Every thing else is just mechanical and takes time to get use to. Take the time to set up a shot. Don't be afraid to fail and try different angle and different setting. Get close to the subject some time and stay from a distance some time. Try all combination. In time, you will develope your own style. Digital photography had made everything easy. If you don't like the shot, just hit the delete button. No more expensive film development. You can't get better than that.

WOW! I did not know how popular those LGMH paint chip can be inside of Disney. Thank you for the great idea on how to create the tag. So cool!! I think my DW would freak when all the DISers stranger come talk to me at Disney.

I don't know about the weight of the SX10IS but the P80 is practically weightless compare to my D200. I would recommend you to go to your local Best Buy and get the feel of the cameras first before buying anything.

Yes, I'd recommend the Sx10 over the S5 just because it's the newest in Canon's super-zoom/bridge camera line. The S5 is DEFINITELY a great little camera, but I think the Sx10IS would be a nice step up. It's got 20X zoom rather than 12x zoom, it's got 10 megapixels rather than 8 megapixels, etc. Just a few small things that IMO make it a better choice.

In terms of the AA batteries that all of these cameras will take, I honestly don't think they are such a big deal. I would not spend the money to constantly replace them with new AAs, but I would invest in some rechargeable AA batteries (do a little research, find out which brand is recommended, you might want to take a peak on the Photo Board). If the camera takes 4 AAs, having 4-8 extra AAs charged and in the reserves really shouldn't be much more trouble than carrying around an extra Canon rechargeable battery (if they even offered them for this camera, which they don't).

Again, you will have to look at the size, price, etc. to decide if ultimately this camera is right for you---but there are a lot of people on the Photo Board that have it and seem to love it, and a lot of good reviews on sites like dpreview.com, Steve's Digicams and Amazon. It will not fit in your pocket, but it won't be as heavy as a dSLR either....probably somewhere in between. The shipping weight is 1.2 pounds, so not too bad at all.

Your pictures are beautiful (especially the WL ones) - I was telling my DH that some of your pictures are more beautiful than being there in person.

We also have a "Ted E Bear" but she is a yellow haired Troll Doll dressed in a Nautical dress. Her name is Rachel Rachel - another Seinfeld fan here. She is so near and dear to us..she is even in a few of our professional wedding pictures. Yes, she was also there when our first child was born too. In fact on our last Disney Cruise, as we were snapping pictures of our beloved troll doll on the railing of the cruise ship, my DH said that if he had to make the decision of saving our camera or our little Troll Doll from going overboard...he would save the Troll Doll. (We only have a Nikon P&S, so it would be easy to replace). It's pretty funny. I went on a trip to Hong Kong and China without DH and he would not let me take Rachel Rachel with me because he was afraid I would lose her!

Keep up the good work. I hope you guys go on the Disney Cruise. I would love to see some cruise pics from you.

Thank you. I missed your post last night. Thusday was the day I lost my wallet at DHS so we couldn't possibly at MK. Thank you for the compliment for my DW. I will make sure she gets the message. Maybe then she wouldn't beat me up.

Maybe the newer camera doesn't use battery as fast as the older one. When I first start shooting with a Nikon Coolpix 900 in 1999 I think, that thing eats battery faster than teenager eats cookies. As for the store bought rechargeable battery, it works fine at the beginning. After a few recharge cycles, it last about as long as I mow my lawn. Now I got a drawer full of those weak rechargeable batteries. By the time I got the later version of Coolpix 7900, those Li-Ion rechargeable battery can last at least 400 shot before it show any weakness. I once took it to Stratton, VT for a ski trip. It lasted 1 full day including photos and video. That's why I prefer Li-Ion rechargeable than NiMH rechargeable.

When did you went to HK?? Did you get a chance to visit HK Disney. I heard they were working on building another one at China. I wish we can go back there for a visit. I haven't been back for 34 years.

I don't know will we go to Disney Cruise yet. That's a possibility but it really depends on how everything works out.

A little off topic here.

I was so glad I wrote this TR because I made so many new friends along the way who followed my TR thru either here, PM, Facebook or personal email. One thing I was curious is the statistic of my TR. Since I work in a marketing department, it's natural for me to study statistic.

I was amazed how many hits I got since I only started my TR at the end of February. The last time I checked, it has over 77,000 hits. That was quiet overwhelming for me. I was "shocked" how popular my TR has became consider this is my very first TR.

This is a new experience for me also. I never wrote anything this long in my entire lifetime and it was a lot of fun. I still have a lot to write even the trip is getting close to the end. There are lots of detail I don't want to leave out. You can see my TR from the last 2 parts have became more wordy than visual. That's because my thought process has gone overdrive.

I don't intent to drag my TR. It will continue in a normal pace to the end. I am just asking if there are any lurkers out there reading. Please don't hesitate to post your comment or question. PM works too if you choose to be a stealth.

BTW, I won the lottery tonight. Well...not really bu felt like it. DW and I went to a local diner we frequent regulary for dinner this evening. Not too long after we sat down, a much older couple came in and sat at the booth next to us. Both were about 80 years old but very loving. The husband held the wife's hand until she sat down. When the wife's gets up and go to the restroom, the husband would hold her hand and walk her to the restroom and wait for her to come out. Even after they sat down, they would hold hands together until their dinner arrive. They look at each other eyes the whole time without saying a word. I only wish I have my camera with me. Talk about about a Kodak moment.

I have a heck of a time to hold back my emotion. Finally, when we finished our dinner and on our way out to pay for the check, I told the hostess I want to pay for their dinner. The hostess told me that couple were there a week ago to have their 50th anniversary dinner there. It was such a privilege to buy them dinner. I felt like I just won a million dollar.

You have also inspired me to play around with my camera a bit more. I bought an XTI two years ago before our trip to 2007 Disney trip. It takes great pictures and I use it all the time, but I think it is time to start branching out into some other settings.
