What a disaster!!

Althought I am still working on the next installment, I did, however, process most of the AK pictures. Therefore, I decide to at least release them first.

Here is the link to my site. 2009 Disney Pictures It's not pretty but it's simple and functional. It's the best I can do right now and I only enable the AK section now.

If you have any comment or question about the pictures or the site, please either post it here or PM me.

Thanks.

Hi!!!

Omigosh I am LOVING this TR! I'm glad you got your camera, because your photos ROCK! I hope you don't take offense, but you crack me up, with all of the little phrases you use. "Tight wart" almost made me spew my drink all over the monitor! Wow... English as your second language? Your writing style is awesome =)

I think it's ridiculous that someone PM'd you regarding your 'well behaved children' comment. Some people find the need to turn EVERY compliment into something negative. I think it was very obvious you meant no offense!

And do you watch the show Lost? You slightly resemble the man who plays one of the main organizers of the Dharma initiative. The guy who stars in the briefing videos. Sorry if you don't know who I'm talking about, LOL. But just wantd to tell ya.

Excited to read more!

Hey there!

I have loved every word and photo in your TR and can't wait to read more. I love the food porn pictures and it has persuaded us to try O'Hana's in December.

Keep the updates coming and thanks for keeping me entertained this morning :thumbsup2

Marvin Candle. That's too funny. You actually do resemble him a tad.

AK pics are amazing. I live in Orlando and love to go to the parks to shoot. I'm such a novice and I'm limited by my camera. You really are good.

Great TR. I love your report so far your pictures are amazing. Let me ask you I am in need of buying a new camera but nothing fancy do you have any recommendations I am a point and shoot kind of person but I also like a decent zoom like 10x or 8x. DO you have any suggestions? I have the sony cyber but its a piece of garbage. LOL

Just wanted to chime in as well and say what a wonderful trip report and your photos should be bought by Disney - they are amazing!!!:cool1:

Keep up the good work because reading these trip reports are the only thing keeping me going since I don't have another trip planned this year and may not be able to go until 2010 (which seems like forever).

Thank you for sharing your story. I have really enjoyed reading it and my two six year olds (twins) are absolutely loving your photographs.

I just finished reading through... and i have to say, the picture with you and the camera and the many heavy looking bags... made me wonder.. How on earth do you walk around with all that without hurting?? lol

This is by far one of the best reviews:cool1:

Thank you. I am so happy you like my TR and pictures so much. I really appreciate your support as well.

I never watch LOST. My best friend is a fan. I might have to ask him who this man is. Now you got my curiosity going.

So glad you like my TR and pictures. O'Hana is the bomb. I told DW that's a must when we go back.

Now I have some serious catching up to do here.

Thank you for the compliment. You just have to keep shooting. Practice makes perfect. Camera is just a tool. How you view and present the subject is more important. The more you shoot...the more you'll find a way to work around your equipment's limitation.

Thank you for the compliment. For a P&S, since I am a Nikon guy, I would recommend the CoolPix P80. I think the CoolPix P90 has just been released but it cost more. My DW loves the P80 I got her for the trip.

Thank you for the compliment. If Disney would buy my pictures, I am SOLD. LOL...

That is a long wait. No Disney until 2010.:sad1: I will do my best to bring Disney to you in the mean time.

So glad you like my TR. It's nice to hear your twins like my photos. I will release more ASAIC.

Wow!! What a compliment!! "One of the best reviews." Thank you.

I was so pumped, I didn't even feel the bag was heavy. LOL.... But I do think my walk around camera bag was some where between 16 to 20 pounds. My legs were sore by the end of the day.

I am still trying to finish up the last part of Day #4. However, I have a long commute tomorrow. Hopefully, I will able to post the next installment by tomorrow evening. Please stay tune.:surfweb:

When I first started reading your TR and the agonies over the camera bag, I thought we might need to put you in a 12-step program! After seeing all your pics so far, I get it! ::yes::

I'm new to the boards and the TR thing, but I started reading yours and was hooked. The whole adventure is fun to read. I showed DW your photos and now she's getting as hyped-up as I am to visit WDW. Your food photos have our stomach's growling -- and we're getting excited to make our ADRs. Thanks for sharing!

I am really enjoying your TR!!! We are headed back to WL in August - your pictures show it just like I remember it!! Love your writing - I lol at you sliding over becuase the giraffe was chasing you!!! And your pictures are fabulous - you definately hvae the eye and talent!! I alos love the pics of the castle at night - but also the white bird taken at AK after the monkey shots - took my breath away! Keep up the good work!

What a fun TR! My computer geek husband has started really getting into the camera thing over the last few years as well. He doesn't have the equipment that you do (he wishes) but adds things on here and there as long as it flies under the "budget radar". ;) Kind of a don't ask/don't tell relationship on how much he spends on this "hobby".
Looking forward to reading more!!

Just finished the last update and loved the primate pics. I had a question I meant to ask last time and forgot. I'm returning to the world this summer after a LONG hiatus and am curious what you did with your gear when riding the attractions. Were you able to just wear the backpack or did they make you stow it away in the loading area? (I ask because I plan to have at least 2 camera bodies / 3 lenses with me most of the time...unless I forget it a home...in which case I'll cry...and maybe even whimper a bit.)

Looking forward to more!

OMG I love this picture. You took this with a point and shoot. Mine never come out like that.

Subbing.

I'm in can't wait to read more.

Welcome to the ride. I still have more food pictures to share. Thank you for reading.

Thank you for reading my TR. Glad you like the pictures. I did the same exact thing when DW and I went whale watching at Cape Cod many years ago. The only difference, I dropped my camera, almost, into the ocean because I was freaking out when I saw the whale coming towards me. Luckily, I still have the camera strap around my neck. Whew!!!!

Well...we guys have a way to forget things we bought. :rolleyes1 Thank you for reading.:)

For the most part, I carried at least 4 lenses and 1 body every day with the exception of AK day which I carried the additional "BEAST". The 4 lenses were 10.5mm Fisheye, 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4 and a 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6. The "BEAST" is a 70-200mm f/2.8. On days with out the beast, I put body, 35mm, 50mm, 24-120mm in the bag. Fisheye goes into a LowePro lens case that strap on my belt.

I had no problem on any ride at all. My bag fit in all the little net they provide either under in front of the seat. The most troublesome I have was Soaring. The net was very tight on that ride. This is the bag I used.

On the day I have to carry the "BEAST", I carried two lens cases. One for the Fisheye and one for the 50mm. Then the bag will have plenty of room for the "BEAST". I was able to carry them all onto Expedition Everast without any problem. The Crumpler bag looks small but it does fit everything in there. I was a little surprise and price was more than reasonable. $70.

Thank you for reading. Yes. That picture came straight out of this camera.

Day #4 (Wednesday) Part 5

Initially, we had our ADR at Jiko tonight @ 8:00pm. However, when we looking thru all our dinner reservation on Monday evening, we realize every dinner ADR DW made were some where between 7:30pm to 8:15pm time frame. (I made no decision on any of the ADR at all. I swear.) So I asked DW, "Don't you want to watch the "Wishes" and/or the "illumiNations" at least once in close up?" DW said, "Sure." I then said, "With these dinner ADR schedule, I doubt it we can catch either show." Another DOH moment!!

So by Tuesday afternoon before we head over to DHS, DW called and change the ADR. Since we already went to Jiko the night before, we decided to change our Wednesday night Jiko ADR. I told DW it doesn't matter which restaurant she can book as long as we can get in at around 6:00pm and not too far from MK or within the monorail route. Our first choice was WCC at WL. Second choice was Kona Cafe at PR. After spending 15 minutes on the phone, DW came back and told me both places were booked solid at 6:00pm. Instead they got us ADR at "The Wave" in CR. Not bad for a last moment changes and a new restaurant to try out too.

By the time we got back to WL from AK, we were tired from all the walking. After a brief moment of rest, we freshen up a bit and off to "The Wave". We were just too spoiled from staying at WL. A quick boat ride and we were at CR in no time. Maybe it's our luck, every time we got to the boat dock, the boat is already there waiting for us to board. It doesn't matter which side we take. I couldn't get a taxi that quick in Manhattan. LOL...

The Wave is a very modern restaurant. There is really no theme particular, at least not to my eyes. The entrance was pretty cool looking.

Once we walked inside, I notice it was very dark. I think this is set up more for a romantic evening dinner. After we check-in, we were seated within matter of minutes. The dining room was large but only a few tables were occupied. Once we sat down, the CM came and took our drink order.

DW only wants a boring soda. Me of course has to be different and order another smoothie but I can't remember what flavor. ;)
TW_D4_P_drink.jpg

After the CM came back with our drinks, she proceed and explain every thing on the menu. She was a chatty one. I think she probably can recite every thing in that menu from front to back.

For appetizer, we both had the same thing, Lump Crab Cake - Pan-seared with crispy papaya slaw and balsamic glaze. DW is a big fan on crab cake. I thought it was pretty good too. :)

TW_D4_P_appetizer.jpg

Main course, DW order the Grilled Pork Tenderloin - made with pineapple rice, wilted greens and black bean sauce, I think.

TW_D4_B_maincourse.jpg

For me, I had the Pan-seared Stripe Bass served with corn and edamame stew and cilantro chutney.

TW_D4_P_maincourse.jpg

I am not a seafood person and I am just tired of red meat by now. Not to mention, I have not have Sea Bass for over a decade so I want to try something new. I have to say, the fish was much better than I anticipate.

After main course was over, we barely have room for desert any more. But since we have the DXDP, we might as well. DW has the freshly crafted sorbets - Lemon-basil, pineapple and strawberry.

TW_D4_B_desert.jpg

For me, I had the decadent flavors - Blueberry compote with yogurt gelato, Lemon cornbread with vanilla panna cotta and Chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce. Mmmmm.... It was very good but not enough. ;)

TW_D4_P_desert.jpg

As soon as dinner was over, we got on to the monorail and head over to MK. We arrived at about 7:30pm. The park was mobbed with people. We couldn't even get near the castle area. Instead, we choose to stay by the flag pole area in front of the train station. I had my tripod set up and plug in the remote shutter trigger. I thought I was at the some what decent position for the firework. Then some one decide to stand up right in front of my camera. Arghhh... I guess I looked invisible to this man or he forgot to bring an extra pair of eyes behind his head. :)

Fortunately, we were pretty far back from the castle, so I tilted the camera angle up a bit higher and problem solved, some what. Thank goodness for the wide angle lens.

I have never shoot firework pictures before so this is a first for me. Not knowing what to expect, I was shooting everything in guess mode. Once Wishes began, I just keep setting off the shutter once every few seconds. I have to do some "chimping" in between shots and then adjust the shutter timing to my liking. (In digital photography term, "chimping" means you check you shots from the LCD screen after you took a series of shots.) I took a whooping 129 pictures. Unfortunately, majority are pretty bad. Only a few made the cut. Even that, I am not too happy about it. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to night time firework photography. I took this as a sign for me to go back for more practice. :)

Here are the one that made the cut. Not exactly the best but hopefully, with practice it will improve.

Even DW was getting into the mood. Unfortunately, she has to shoot it hand held with her P&S. So everything became some what of a blur. Here are some of her shots.

As soon as Wishes was over, the sea of people were leaving the park immediately. I swear, there must be over a million people pouring directly towards us. I told DW let's stay put and wait out since we were in no rush to go back to WL. In about good 20 minutes, the crowd finally thin out. We proceed to go towards the castle instead. By then, main street began to empty out. So I took advantage and took a few shot of the empty castle.

_DIS5821.jpg

After that, I headed over to Tomorrowland entrance to get some neon light shot and some close up of the castle. Again, I have no idea what I was doing but it turns out okay. Not spectacular but okay.

_DIS5833.jpg

_DIS5830.jpg

Finally, after spending another 30 minute shooting in the dark. DW and I had enough. Not to mention temperature has dropped dramatically. We were getting chilly from that point. So we packed everything up and took our boat ride back to WL. During the boat ride, we ran into the lagoon light show. At that point, I just want to go back to our room because we were freezing. Burrr....

We made one more stop before we went back to our room. Since we saw the Wishes, now we want to see the illumiNations also. So we stop at Artist Point to change our tomorrow's ADR from 7:05pm to 5:30pm. Thank goodness they have an opening for our changes. We were set.

Then when we got back to our room, DW jumped into the hot shower immediately. I snugged back out and do my WL indoor photo session. I have tried every trick in my book but all the pictures were still come out underexpose no matter what. It was driving me up the wall. After about 30 minutes of trying with a dozen of configuration and setup; faster lens, longer exposure time, flash, no flash and remote flash. Nothing work. I finally gave up and left with a lot of frustration. I guess tomorrow is another day.

Anyway, here are my some what okay shot.

By the time I got back into the room, DW was already sleeping like a log. I quietly snugged back in. Took my shower and then fell asleep within matter of seconds. It was a very very long day for this tired body. I then realize I was up and about since 6:00am until close to midnight. That's 18 hours of "Power Disney". It certain wore me out. Zzzzzz....
