We just returned from our first stay there this week. 2 adults. We wanted something nicer than Harbor and decided the Grand Californian was too expensive for this trip. I had heard good things about the Westin so decided to give it a try.
The hotel was nice. Very modern and upscale. The elevators were fast and easy (you do have to use your room key to go up). We got the large studio with a theme park view (you said resort view so I think that is facing away from the park). It had a large bathtub that was great (but no jacuzzi jets). For our room when looking out the window we could only see the other side of the hotel. We had to go out on the tiny balcony and look to the left to see what we could see of the park, which was disappointing. The bed was soft and the room was big. The air conditioning was very quiet but we also thought it could have made the room a little cooler. Especially when returning from the parks.
We walked through the pool area but never had a chance to go in. It looked nice (even though not that big) and the jacuzzi looked nice too. The bar area by the pool was closed. We used the fitness center and it was spacious and had all the machines and weights you would probably want.
We were there during the Super Bowl so we watched the second half downstairs in the lobby and got drinks and snacks from the bar. I got a Roy Roger which was pretty good (asked them to make it, not on the menu) and my girlfriend got a Tangerine Mojito which she thought was delicious. We also got fries and a cheese platter which were standard. One morning my girlfriend also got a smoothie from the coffee shop in the courtyard. She said it was pretty good. That was the only food we had there.
On the first night we were not in the parks so we walked over to
Pixar Place and went to the third floor to see the fireworks with music (their elevators are still a mess). It was a nice view.
The walk to the parks was our main concern. The good news is two days we went down
Disneyland Drive by the Grand California we were able to follow someone and cut through. We also obviously were able to cut through the lobby on the way back as well. But they are doing construction for the Coco ride on side of Disneyland Drive closest to the hotel and it is blocking a long portion of the sidewalk. This causes you to have to cross the street and walk farther when it would usually be unnecessary. Those extra steps suck.
We also had heard that some people like to walk to the Toy Story Lot and take the bus in. We did this one night and thought it was a waste. You walk halfway to the park only to keep walking away from the park and then take the bus back the way you could have already walked. And they weren’t doing security checks at the lot so we still had to do security when we got to the park. We never walked to the parks along Harbor so I’m not sure what that full walk feels like. On our last day after check out we did drive over to the lot and take the bus in. We thought that was a good move because we were able to take the bus back and save a lot of steps before driving home.
During this trip we mostly did afternoons and evenings so no rope drop experience. If you stay on the right side of the hotel there is a side door to the right of the main entrance that can save some steps, but unfortunately it appears to lock around 10:00 PM so later than that you still have to walk to the main doors.
Overall we thought the hotel and room were really nice. It definitely takes you out of the Disney bubble. The walk is manageable for a trip to the parks and back (at least for adults), but I’m not sure we would have wanted to take a break in the middle of the day and come back like we do when we stay on property. It’s feels a little too far for that.
