We have heard a rumor that DVC will be building in So. Cal sometime in the future. My question is we have started the process on buying in at SSR does it make more sense to wait and buy in So. cal.? We go to Disneyland more then we would Disneyworld. I'm just wondering if having our main home in WDW and trying to book at the DL resort "if or when its ever built" will be difficult to do? I also wonder if the cost to buy in DL will be more expensive then SSR? We want to make the right decision so thanks for all your help.

We were in the same boat (we're in Albany, OR). We decided to purchase
100 points at VWL this last fall. We realize that we are going to need 300+ points total. So while we save cash for the next 100 point add-on, we're watching to see what happens in California. If they do announce a DVC there, then we'll purchase 200 points at a California DVC. If they don't, then we'll purchase another 100 at WDW in a year or so, and then wait some more.

The logic is that with our current 100 points at VWL, we can bank and borrow and have 300 points to spend every 3 years in Florida.

No one here knows if that rumor will come true or not. We'd only be speculating. You'll have to decide for yourself how much credence to put in the rumor. Sorry.

Best wishes -

...about a DVC in SoCal. Disney ended up selling the property to Marriott, and Marriott built its Newport Coast Villas. We've stayed their twice and LOVE it, but it would have been even better for it to be a DVC. We definitely would have bought into it. We try and stay there and go to DL.

It would be great if the new rumor was true. Maybe they are going to knock down some more buildings in Anaheim and build one really close. THAT would be the best!

It's very possible that one will be built - but who knows when. I have a feeling it will be costly - since they will have a huge market there with CA's and people in the West and really not much space to build many units. As far as trading in from SSR - it's anyone's guess. We'd love to go there as well if it actually happens - but we'll just have to take the chance of trading in - or we may sell one of our contracts and buy there. There is so much that is unknown with this - we weren't willing to wait around and see!

I own at OKW, Vero, BCV and BWV and have booked on points several times at the Grand Californian at DL. I would say go for the purchase at WDW, and do not put much creedence in rumors.

Don't count your chickens before they're hatched!!! Even if something was announced anytime soon, it could be a couple of years before a resort on the west coast would be ready for occupancy...why not enjoy WDW now and look into purchasing a new contract if/when it ever happens.

We just joined at SSR also. It will probably be a long time b4 they actually get anything done, and I suspect the points will cost a lot more. Did you see the difference in cruise prices when they did one from LA? $$$$$$$ I guess being able to save the airfare will somewhat offset needing to use nightly points at GC. If they do get a dvc for CA, we will get a package then :cool1:
