It was such a pleasure to meet you and your family, especially after "talking" with you on the boards for over a year. I felt somewhat inadequate, like I wished I had known some ASL so I could have communicated with you better, but you made it easy because of your sweet and outgoing nature. I'm looking forward to continuing our friendship on the boards.

Deborah, ditto from me. I know first hand how people treat a person different from them. When you live with a disability, it's not only the disability you have to deal with yourself it is how others look and react to you. Whenever I saw you, I saw your smiling face. I hope I gave you a smile back and a wave. I enjoyed our brief conversation and I would have like to have had more. I'm hoping to cruise with you and your family in the future.

Whether or not to come up here really depends on what you like to do. Generally people come up here to go camping or on their way to the Alaskan Highway.

V, to you. "Nothing is right with her" just about sums it up, doesn't it? I've had people like that in my life, too. I finally realized that it didn't matter what I said or didn't say, did or didn't do, they were going to be upset. Up until then I kept thinking that if I just tried hard enough, I'd be able to figure out the puzzle. As everyone else has said, you have to do what you feel is right for your girls, even if your mother (or whoever) doesn't approve. I think that nearly every woman wants her mother to approve of her and it's so hard when it doesn't happen. We think about how it COULD be, if only the other person would be reasonable and that just makes it harder. My experience has been that there was very little I could do to stop these people from trying to lay the guilt trip on me. All I could do was not take the bait, if you will. I'd just respond with "oh" or "hmmm" or change the subject. If worse came to worse, I'd make some excuse and end the conversation. You're not obliged to stay in a conversation where you feel you're not being treated well. Good luck and hang in there. Trust your instincts.

Alaska is on DH's to do list also. For me warm places, not Africa hot, wins also.

I have no desire whatsoever to go to Alaska. I always say I will go to Alaska when palm trees start to grow there. Vacation for me means hot weather and palm trees. I am hoping DCL does regular cruises to the Southern Caribbean with one of their new ships.

Sounds good to me. DH can go on the excursions in Alaska and if there is snow on any of them I don't go. I stay on the ship. He's says we will go when there is no snow. Ha, just my luck it will be a freaky cold spell like it was in Cabo and LA and it will snow anyway.

Well Ken, I just finished downloading a bunch of your photos--I hope that's OK! Your pictures in the WD Theater were WAY better than mine. Don't worry, I won't try to take credit for them...at least, anywhere that you'll see! I'M KIDDING!

No worries. Enjoy. I used my 50mm prime lens for some of the shots in the WD Theatre rather than my super zoom. It has a much lower aperture setting which allows for better shots. The main reason why I bought it. I have, what I think anyhow, a great shot of John Charles singing his closing number at his final show I still have to put up.

Sounds like the size of town where I grew up--5000, to be exact. But it was a great place to be a kid!

I'm not so sure here is such a great place to be a kid. IT does have some stuff but I much prefer larger centres. Not really large like Vancouver, but somewhere around the 100,000 mark. But it is nice that I can go from downtown to home in under 3 minutes.
