West Jet out of Hamilton vs Toronto

I've checked flights leaving Hamilton February 4, 2006, returning from Orlando on February 11th and the fare is $383.61 non-stop. Return flight out of Toronto Pearson for the same period is $510.93, a difference of $127.32 and that was picking the cheapest flight(there was a $423.00 one way fare). What a difference a 40 minute drive down the QEW can make. Travel a little further to Buffalo and fares are even cheaper. Goes to show that the Toronto Pearson does have the highest landing fees in the world. Little wonder Torontonians are again shuffling off to Buffalo in search of cheaper fares.

The only draw back about the WestJet flights out of Hamilton is that the flights don't leave Hamilton until around 4:30 pm so by the time you arrive in Orlando and get to WDW....the parks will be closed or almost closed.

About Pearson....I heard on the news tonight that Pearson is the most expensive airport to land a plane IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From my point of view, if you're going to go '40 minutes down the road', then go an additional hour and so and fly out of Buffalo. If you think the Hamilton fares are cheap, then Buffalo is cheaper. There are plenty of threads here about flying out of Buffalo, so all you have to do is go back maybe a week or so to get tons of opinions.

As for Pearson, cbc.ca has a write up about the increased rents that went in to effect either Nov. 15 or 16 (I forget which day). The Toronto Star had an article in the Business Section on Nov. 15, basically saying the same thing, but providing more detail. According to that article, it now costs $13,000 to land a 747-500 at Pearson, and yes, the increases make Pearson the most expensive airport in the World.

The Star article also quoted some guy (from AC I think) saying that the increased rents would force the airlines to increase fares, and he fully expected that people would start to 'fly around' Pearson, and not use the airport.... as if that's not happening now.

Flying out of Hamilton would be so convenient for me, but it is still about half the price to fly out of Buffalo.

I think that the flights have a stop somewhere when you fly out of detroit. I dont like to make a change.

I would fly out of Buffalo in a minute. It isn't that much further and much cheaper. Also, your trip through Customs is easier.

I consider the extra hour and half drive to Buffalo as standing time in line at Pearson anyway. At the Buffalo airport you can arrive one hour before departure instead of the required 3 hours at Pearson.

DH flies out of Buffalo and Hamilton all the time. He avoids Pearson as much as he can, traffic, delays, too many people, etc.

He loves the Buffalo Airport and clearing customs ahead of time.

As far as Hamilton he says it's small, convenient and easy.

Either one should be OK for your travels.

Waterloo "International" Airport is a Breeze... but unfortunately only NWA flies out of here...

18 flights a day from London, Windsor and Sarnia. You think they could take one-two from each origin, or something, and drop them down to pick-up passangers in Kitchener. There is also 3 London-Ottawa trips daily that could drop one down to pick-up passangers = 5 flights out of kitchener daily to Toronto and Ottawa...

Last year we flew out of Pearson on Air Transat and Westjet return. We were given the flight as a christmas present and my mom paid over $1000 for the two of us to fly non-stop from Toronto to Orlando. For just two of us , in Febuary! Craziness.
We paid soo much for parking at Pearson. Yes we live 10 minutes from the airport and that was nice to get home quick.

This year we are flying out of Buffalo, for almost $800 less. Yes we are changing planes but we have a big window of time between flights and Im ok with that.
We go across all the time so I know what to expect at customs ect.

We have never flown out of Hamilton but if we could go as cheaply as we are out of Buffalo I might consider.
