No, I was totally spoiled. My dad was much tougher on the boys. He believed in all of the gender stereotypes. the boys are supposed to grow up to be tough, strong guys while the girls are supposed to be little angels. (ugh)

My sister and I got spanked a few times, never with anything but my mom or dad's hand though, and usually just one or two swats on the butt. Now, our brother, that was a different story. One time when he was about 5 he looked at my mom after she swatted him and he smiled and said that didn't even hurt. The next time she swatted him she used a wooden spoon and it broke in half! She and my brother totally started laughing! That was the end of spankings around our house (he's the youngest). LOL!
My mom actually perfected THE LOOK. You know the one that said you better quit it RIGHT NOW or you will be VERY sorry using only her eyes. I was way more scared of THE LOOK than a spanking!!!!

Yep, spanked, by both parents, with just about anything; hand, wooden spoon, that special leather belt just for that occasion, and once, while telling Mom the belt didn't hurt, she got a broomstick; I took off, and she chased me around the house, swinging as she caught up with me. We got the soap, too, for bad language.

Thinking back, I probably deserved most of that, but I wonder if it happened as often as it seems, now.

And of course, now I have a prefectly wonderful relationship with both parents, always have.

Of course, the only punishment that really affected me was the curse of having kids just like I was.

Yes. I would get popped on the mouth or the belt or the wooden spoon or the hairbrush. By both my parents. My brother once got whacked with the vacuum hose. He wrote a song about it that we still sing

My Mother would send me to my room and forget she put me there. I would wait hours until I decided that I might as well escape by crawling out my window and jumping off the porch roof and running to my friend's house down the street. I would come home hours later and she had forgotten she punished me

Yes, quite often, and always by my Dad. As someone else mentioned, you were sent upstairs to your room to await your punishment. He used a strap, on your bare butt, while you were over his lap, and it hurt!!! This happened many times with me and my two older brothers. The younger three didn't experience this (thank goodness!), as he seemed to mellow out a bit.

Did we deserve it? No. Most of the time it was his anger that was out of control, plus it was what he had experienced as a child, and he repeated those mistakes with us.

It always upset my Mother when this happened.

Now that I'm older I understand why it happened, but it shouldn't of.

I'm close to both my parents, but especially my Mother.

Yes, a few times by my mother. I usualy mouthed off to her. I was more scared of my father. Once she broke a hairbrush wacking me on the shoulder-I was about 14. My father flew off the handle a little easier. He could get a little too violent I think-throwing your things down the stairs, etc.. He also had high blood pressure and I swear that set him off. I got my mouth washed out with soap once when I was about 6-and it was the last time b/c I keep going "mmmm... tastes sooo good.." Hahaha. I get along great with both parents now, but I still think my dad was a person that should not have had children

A couple of times my mom hit me, but it was mostly by my dad. A lot of times it was a slap (or more than one) across the face...once he hit me with the buckle side of the belt. He claims now that he only hit me once and part of me thinks that's probably all he remembers (I hit him back that time...I was 18) so I just let it go.

Somehow, my parents had this uncanny ability to get their point across as to how we were supposed to behave without using any type of real corporal punishment, and we just behaved the way they wanted most of the time. They did have good follow-through, which is what I think the secret was. If they said "If you do that, I'll do this" and you did "that", then they did "this" even if it meant that they had to stop an enjoyable thing. For example, I was baout 7 or 8 & we were in a Howard Johnson's having dinner and I was acting up and my mother said to me "If you act up once more, you and I are going to go sitr in the car while Dady & Bobby finish thier dinner & dessert". Of course, in my infinite 7 year old wisdom, I thought "she's not going to want to sit in the car,..she doesn't mean it". I acted up again and...lo and behold...mama and I were in the car!And it wasn't pretty. It was about 3 hours (or at least seemed like 3 hours ) of her telling me that it was too bad that I couldn't behave because I'd be enjoying a nice ice cream sundae for dessert right now like my brother probably was, and things of that nature. The lesson? If they said it, they meant it.

Both DH and I were spanked as children. My mother always did the spanking and my Grandma too. I feel that this made me a better person and I will never be bitter towards my mom or Grandma because of this.
