Happy Hours No More?

I think the drinks are a reasonable charge on DCL in general, and the happy hour was an extraordinary deal... But I think it was done because they could still make a decent profit and justify having the bar open - that was our experience on our September magic cruise.... Both the Sports Bar and Keys were totally empty in the evenings. The Happy Hours at least brought a few other sailors into the room with us and made for some memorable conversations and made the wait staff feel like there was a reason they were working...

I found on both Wish cruises we did the opposite to be the case - Nightingales was always full, Star Wars pub was always packed, Bayou was overflowing... the one exception was Keg and Compass, which, while busy was never "full" when we walked by.
I will agree with this, on the Treasure the Rose was the bar that was always the least busy. Because of the NCAA basketball the Periscope pub was busy with everyone watching the games. The Haunted mansion bar was always busy with the exception of pirate night where for a few hours there were only 6 cruisers in the bar. I had fun chatting with the bartenders that night. I found out that they rotate what bar or cafe they work at every 2-3 weeks depending on their position so it doesn’t get as monotonous.

Just as a reminder... Drink packages on other lines ALSO include bottled water, specialty coffees, smoothies, etc. It's not ALL alcoholic beverages.
I enjoyed the drink package on Royal. I don't know if I got my money's worth out of, but I enjoyed the convenience. The bottled water is such a big plus along with getting good coffee. Royal runs specials and discounts on their drink packages which can make it worth it. I have a hard time seeing DCL running black Friday or president day sales on drink packages. That's not a how DCL operates. If they offer them they will most likely be super expensive.

Was on the Wish in January... No "advertised" happy hours... But the bar in Marceline Market had $5 mimosa's and bloody mary's. We just kind of "found out" about them on the first day (got a drink at lunch).

Except NCL...No limit on price or amount with their new "More at Sea".
This is why I don’t sail on NCL anymore. We took an Alaskan cruise with them and it was full of drunks all day and night. I really hope DCL doesn’t do a drinks package for this reason. Or cap it at two a day.

I always get the drink package when I cruise and have never seen out of control drunk people. I am cruising in June. It was $62 a day. For that I will get:

Fresh squeezed OJ $5
4 bottles of water $20
3 alcoholic drinks $42
Milkshake/smoothie $8
Specialty coffee $6
Total $81

Some days i also have a soda or extra coffee and sea days sometimes an extra alcoholic drink. I think there may be some confusion about what you can use these packages for if you have only cruised DCL. It’s like the comments about upselling. I have never experienced it, yet it seem like a huge fear of DCL sailors.

Who the heck would buy a 2 drink a day package? Just buy 2 drinks. Packages are designed for folks who definitely drink more than 2 drinks a day.

We didn't experience that last June on the Encore.

Unfortunately for me, the Happy Hours never seemed to line up with the bar I was at (or wanted to be at) at the time I was there. I've never gotten to take advantage of them but have seen them.

With that said, back in the day they used to have 2 for 1 drinks at the Conched Out Bar on CC, at a certain time in the afternoon (2:00 maybe?). THAT I took advantage of a few times. :teeth: We miss it!

There are plenty of drunk parents/adults on Disney. It's not a party boat but it's not completely dry either so I'm not sure where the smugness comes from.

I did the Martini Tasting & Mixology classes back to back last week. Andre (the bartender leading the classes) said on Disney no one is ever drunk- they are Wobbly.

When kids google drunk they get lots of negative images; but if they google wobbly they just get videos of the wobble instead!!

I’m not advocating fir a drink package, just saying a drink package capped at 2 would be like offering a buffet with 2 options.

Technically there is a "wine at dinner package". I would not recommend it, but it is there.

I imagine a drink package would be somewhat similar - little practical savings, but would make you feel more inclusive...

I mean I was on Utopia earlier this year where it's marketed as a party boat and didn't run into any of that. Families had just as much fun as they do elsewhere.

I don't have an opinion if DCL should offer one or if it'd be worth, but the whole drunks everywhere really gets blown out of proportion.

Likely just not yet. They definitely were not on the Magic at all last week.
Very sad. I hope some repeat cruisers placed that in the comments. My bigger concern is that they will result in operating the bars with fewer hours on the classic ships.
