We're touring Disney like a 3 year old (2TRs in 1!)- UPDATE 5/18 pg. 46

I love thrill rides but for some reason rides like ferris wheels, skyways and that little train ride scares me more than the biggest coaster out there. And that little train looks scary ;)

I know your little girl is scared to go on rides now but my youngest was like that too. She wouldn't even go on the carousel when she was around 3 years of age and all of a sudden when she turned 4 she wanted to go on EVERYTHING! She loved the Elmo's Blast Off at Sesame place (which scares me), and was upset that she wasn't tall enough to get on the rollercoasters. I think pretty soon your little one will change and end up being just like you!

Those robes really do have a hefty price tag, don't they? The first time I saw it, I was like, uh uh, no way. $100? I'm sorry, I could MAKE a robe for $10.

I agree, the most disappointing part of WWoHP is the fact that you can't go into all of the stores. It's like, all this trouble to make the "store" fronts look fabulous and we can't even go into all of them.

I think universal is good but it just lacks something that disney has tonnes of for me and I can't explain what but I totally get you having disney on the brain at universal.

I'll admit, I'm not really a huge Harry Potter fan, but reading your update about you being all excited about the theming made me all into it as well! That really is cool how detailed the area is. I love that you can mail things from there as well and get the awesome postmark! (I'm surprised they don't have postcards right there for people wanting to send mail!)

Ugh. Yes. We've done the Florida in August before. VERY VERY HOT. Good thing you had access to lots of Club Level water!!! :thumbsup2

Well, I am glad that I was able to entertain you while writing about HP world since you aren't as into it. I was totally excited when I was there. I am like that at Disney, too, but since I hadn't seen any of this before at Universal, I was probably more off the wall than normal. The details really are amazing, as a big fan of the books and movies, I really appreciated all the work they put into it.

Yeah, I am sure that postcards will be on the way. I mean it's just another way to get people to spend more money there!

Yes, whenever we do a vacation with my SIL and family, it typically is at the end of August and soooooo HOT! I'm usually melting before I have even walked off the hotel property.

Fun update!
You look so cute in the Hogwarts robe. You could pass for a student :)

FYI- I read a rumor that when they expand WWOHP they are going to add the train ride.

As for the Suess Trolley, we rode it a couple years ago and it didn't seem all that safe to me either. I'm sure it is but something about it gives the illusion that a kid could slip out.

Nice pics of details around the park.

Haha, thanks Dawn! I was like a little kid running amuc there at WWoHP.

I am glad that you see what I mean about the Seuss Trolley. The lap bar was safe I guess, but the low sides just made me nervous, especially when we were so high up.

I wish I could have taken even more pics of the park, but there were usually a ton of people in that area and I was usually too hot.

I am soooooo going on the train ride if that rumor is true! There was a HP exhibit that came to a museum near us a few years ago and they actually picked a few people to get sorted from each group. I was crushed that I didn't get to do that, but it was mostly the younger kids that were picked. I guess I can understand that.

No no no! This is your TR, you do what you want! Hahaha I personally may not be a HP buff but I still enjoy reading about your experiences!

THE SCRAMBLER! Kings Dominion, what what? Hahah I used to be so obsessed with that ride. Sad your little girl didn't like it though! :(

They just have random chairs sitting on the carousel? Interesting...

Excited to read more! :thumbsup2

Yay, I am glad that all of my HP excitement wasn't turning people away, this being about Disney and all.

I loved the Scrambler!!! woot! woot! I was obsessed with that ride too. Seriously, I always wanted to ride it again and again. So awesome. (hi five!)

Yeah, the carousel had these random chairs that would kind of glide back and forth a bit when it got moving. My daughter always tries to find the one stationary object on a merry-go-round to sit on. That defeats the purpose for me and makes me dizzy, but what can I do? she has her quirks.

I know what you mean. I don't like Skyways either - especially at the various connection joints. I always feel like it's going to come undone or somethng and I'll go plummeting to the ground.

Funny you mentioned Sesame Place. We tried taking her a while ago when she was really little, before we did a Disney trip kind of as trial run, and it was a disaster. She hated the characters, hated the rides, hated everything except the water/pool area. I think it will be a while before she is into rides, but that will be fun when she does! I can't wait to go on some of the big girl rides with her!

Right? Once I got home, I ended up finding an old graduation gown and when I paired that with my Gryffindor scarf, I could easily pass for a hogwarts student! ;) Now if I could find a way to make Disney princess gowns for my little girl, that would be awesome.

I know! Half the fun of the WWoHP was wandering around and looking at everything. I was a bit disappointed that there was a whole area of store fronts that led to nothing. Maybe the expansion will be different.

I think universal is good but it just lacks something that disney has tonnes of for me and I can't explain what but I totally get you having disney on the brain at universal.

Yeah, most of the Universal park I could do without, but I was impressed with the details and the theming in both the WWoHP and Seussland. The rest of the park just seemed like a regular amusement park to me.

I always have Disney on the brain!

I love your TR. It was very entertaining.popcorn:: You have a adorable little girl. I was tearing up when she met Jessie for the second time. I could only imagine hpw you felt!

Very fun updates. I finally got to see all your pictures this morning and they are quite good. I think you photographed one of the best overviews of the HP area that I have seen. The pictures are great and really tell me a lot. Obviously, I have not tour HP myself yet. It's on my bucket list and I can never seem to find time to go there. If I go I want to stay on sight and its hard to justify when I am already paying for DVC. Anyway - one of these trips I am going to do it. :thumbsup2

Your daughter sounds a lot like my Emily--loves characters and hates thrill rides!

The stationary bench is the only thing she will ride on the carousel. :)

Aw, thank you! I try to keep the TR somewhat interesting. Yes, that Jessie moment was unforgettable. I definitely had happy tears running down my cheeks and the insane happy grin on my face.

Thank you! I was so excited to visit that HP area that I wanted to photograph it all. Unfortunately I didn't get as many as I wanted since I had to keep up with the rest of the family.

I can imagine that it would be hard to justify the cost of staying onsite if you are a DVC member. I hear they are expanding the HP area so that would be even better!

Haha, yes, she loves her characters and is very particular about the rides. Nice, at least we aren't the only ones sitting on the stationary bench. ;)

Haha, so cute that your DD had to see Mickey AGAIN after seeing him not too long ago!

I absolutely love lazy rivers! It's so fun having one on a hotel property (our timeshare has one even though we have to rent the tubes) because that's the ONLY thing I'd like at a water park!

Ooo, I like your parade routine of eating CHH while waiting! I would like to do that or get some food from Casey's (never tried it before).

I'm so excited to read all the WWoHP stuff! I'm ALMOST done with the last book. I'm right up to the part when Harry, Ron, and Hermione go into the Room of Requirement to find Ravenclaw's diadem! BATTLE AT HOGWARTS. So insane!

I just loved all the Harry Potter details. I don't think I'd go on Forbidden Journey (my cousin felt dizzy from it, and she's into thrill rides whereas I'm not!), but I would definitely like to go and see everything that's there and point it out to Howard (he's seen the movies but hasn't read the books; he only started the first one).

She seriously can not pass up on a character meeting. Every once in a while she will tell me the line is too long, but usually, it's a must-stop.

Yes, it's so nice to just sit in a tube and drift away on a nice little current. The lazy rizers at the hotels are usually not nearly as crowded as the water park ones, too. :thumbsup2

I don't know how we got into that routine, but it's become something of a ritual with us. Probably because we know we like the food and we usually have to stake out a spot close to eating time.

Oooh, you are almost done! The last book flew by! It was so much fun to visit Hogwarts after reading about it and watching the movies religiously. I thought the movies captured it all perfectly. It was just like I had imagined in my head.

Sorry for the lack of photos at times in the updates, but there were many pictures that I took that include my neice and nephew in it. I didn't want to post pictures of everyone without asking their permission. And there were many instances where I didn't have my camera due to some "restrictions." Any-who, back to the trip....

Since we were all melting in the August heat, we took a much needed pool break. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of the pool at the hotel. I must have been too busy enjoying the poolside service. That’s right folks – poolside service. As in, a nice lady comes up to us and takes our drink and food orders and then appears shortly later with all the goodies. And yes, you can also go alcoholic. Bonus point to Universal there.

Here is a stock photo of the pool though, just so you can have an idea.

This is the little spray area that our little girl frequented.

I have to admit that I spent a large amount of time lounging by the side of the pool stuffing my face. For some reason, food tastes so good when you are next to a chlorinated body of water.

I think our pool outing only lasted a little over an hour before we had to jet back inside to the hotel. It was time for the daily thunderstorm to roll on through. That was fine with us since we got a chance to regroup, shower and refuel for our evening back at the park.

Where do you think we were headed to first? If you guessed WWoHP, then you were right. We thought we would try our luck again at the lines. We also figured that since this was the main reason for our trip, we might as well make the most of it. Naturally I was still psyched to be getting my Hogwarts groove on.

I even managed to score that photo on the bridge without anyone else nearby! A rarity during the day. My mission for this particular visit? It was time to taste the infamous butterbeer! I heard so much about the frozen butterbeer vs. the regular butterbeer. My nephew was planning on ordering the regular drink so I decided to order the frozen one (since I tend to love all slurpees, slushies, and all things frozen) and just take a sip of his to try it out.

ry%3D400

Obviously I had to get a customary photo in front of the Three Broomsticks. I should have interior shots later on in this TR.

ry%3D400

Naturally I was pretending that I had just gotten my drink from Three Broomsticks with Ron, Hermione and Harry. My thoughts on the drinks? I prefer the frozen one. They tasted exactly like I imagined them to taste – like liquid butterscotch. There was no way I would have been able to handle finishing the regular butterbeer, it was just way to sweet and syrupy for my liking. I managed to drink most of the frozen butterbeer, but even that was a bit much for me. I had to try one though so I could say that I had.

We managed to hit up a few of the roller coasters in the Hogwarts area this afternoon before it got too dark. We went on the Flight of the Hippogriff, the tamer of the rides in the area.

This is a photo of a hippogriff, Buckbeak, from an online blog.

You also get a chance to pass by Hagrid’s hut while in line (photo also from online blog).

The signs are just as fun and full of details here in the WWoHP as they are at Disney.

(from online)

The best comparison I could make for this ride is probably to BTMRR. It’s a family thrill ride that can be enjoyed by many, but not the littlest ones, whether you are a kid or adult. It went faster than I expected from reading the description. Pretty fun!

Next up was the revamped Dueling Dragons rollercoaster. It has been renamed the Dragon’s Challenge. It is an intertwined track of roller coasters that would allow two coasters to pass within 18 INCHES of each other while going at a mere speed of 60 mph. However, due to some accidents in the recent past of people being struck by loose objects, they don’t start off the coasters at the same time anymore. Bummer because that would have been INSANE! I would have screamed my little head off, while loving every last minute of it.

Again, I had to use a stock photo from online. Apparently I was not taking pictures of the roller coasters themselves this trip. Why, you ask? Probably because you weren’t allowed to bring any bags or belongings of any kind with you onto a ride. You had to stow them in a locker before you entered the line, or in our case, we just loaded up the stroller and then sent them on their way with my husband.

Dueling-Dragons.jpg

There are two sides to the ride – the red side (aka the Chinese Fireball) and the blue side (aka the Hungarian Horntail). Even though they are “dueling” coasters, they are completely different rides. You are going faster on the red side and seem to get more “airtime,” or as I like to call it – those moments when I feel like I am going to die because I can feel that my butt is no longer attached to the seat. The blue side has more twists and the only corkscrew portion of the two coasters so it goes a little slower. That was a nice little tidbit from a castmember working the ride.

A rider’s tip for this ride: you can go on the rides back to back without having to exit and reenter completely. As you are walking off the ride, you will come across a path to the right where you can cut across and back into the entrance line. There wasn’t usually much of a wait for this coaster when we went, so it made it so easy to go on the ride again and again. Oh, and walking to the ride you get to see a lot of Triwizard Tournament props. You see signs for Harry, Cedric, Fleur, and Krum.

My thoughts on this ride? A favorite. It was definitely my favorite ride in all of Universal, and we went on it many, many times over the next few days. I became the designated roller coaster adult to accompany the kiddos. Not only was it a fast, fun thrill ride, I happen to love inverted roller coasters. It must be something with having my feet hanging out and feeling like they are going to get chopped off as we whiz by everything. Two thumbs up, for shizzle!

My neice and nephew definitely wanted to go on the ride again so I indulged them for a few more runs. However, it soon became apparent that we were going to have to call it a night. Some of us were getting hungry for dinner, some of us were still nauseous from the rides, and some of us were just plain tired already. It didn’t look like we were all going to be doing dinner together, so I ended up going to dinner with my hubby, my little gal, and my nephew. We decided to walk around City Walk and see what called out to us. Apparently Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. was calling to us. Good dinner overall. And that was the end of the night.

Next day….back to Universal’s Islands of Adventure. This time we decided to explore the rest of the park. We also decided to split up. My little family was going to explore more of Suess Landing while my sister-in-law and her family were going to visit some of the other thrill rides. It wasn’t long before my little girl was in her element, hamming it up with the characters.

Right outside the Circus McGurkus Café we ran across some familiar characters standing around greeting people. She couldn’t wait to pop over and say hello to Sam I Am. Not even sure if she recognized him from the book, Green Eggs and Ham.

ry%3D400

I guess she was the perfect height for an arm rest. He also made sure to get down to her level for a big hug.

ry%3D400

Hi-Fiving good-bye.

ry%3D400

Up next was the cat himself!

ry%3D400

You know she had a hug for him.

ry%3D400

As well as a special handshake good-bye.

ry%3D400

The Grinch was also out greeting people, but we soon heard an announcement that they needed to get back inside the tent for their big show. Well, of course we couldn’t miss out on a Dr. Seuss show, so inside the Circus tent we headed. Since we had been too busy outside with the characters, we didn’t make it inside fast enough to score the VIP seats. We had to settle for the “nosebleed” section.

ry%3D400

The area of the show was also a counter service restaurant. It was early in the day so there weren’t really any people inside eating lunch yet. I can imagine that it would be a fun surprise though if you were just minding your own business, eating a little pizza and in pops the Seuss characters! This is the area that we were in.

ry%3D400

I do find that a bit fitting as I think we spoil our little girl. I mean, three trips to Disney in as many years? Lucky duck.

Just as the story reader walked in, the Seuss Trolley rolled through!

ry%3D400

We were soon treated to a storytime reenactment of Green Eggs and Ham.

ry%3D400

There was also a little dance that included some other fun characters as well.

ry%3D400

Then came my little girl’s favorite part – meet and greet time! She could pick from Sam I Am, the Grinch, Cat in the Hat and Thing 1. Before she could make up her mind, we saw one of them heading our way without a line.

ry%3D400

It didn’t matter to her that she had already seen him. I think he was one of her favorites.

ry%3D400

Then she got in line to see Thing 1. Of course she was asking me where Thing 2 was, and I think I made up some random excuse, like he was cleaning up the mess that they had made.

ry%3D400

Nice hairdo Thing 1!

ry%3D400

We even managed to squeeze in a quick greeting with the Grinch before they all headed out.

ry%3D400

That's so fun that you were able to do so much at Universal! Were the crowds really that low, or were you using front of the line (or both?)?

The Dr. Seuss show looks like it was a big hit with your little one!

Your pool break sounds great but you are so tiny I find it hard to believe you ever stuff your face :)

It looks like all of you really enjoyed Universal. The Seuss area is so cute! I'm not surprised your little one found more characters to meet :)

Ohhh... the Hagrid hut thing... okay I have seen ONE of the HP movies and I don't know which one it was, but I know it wasn't the first one. It was one of the ones that came out before 2007 though. Anyway, I think in that movie they were at that hut and they kept going back in time or something? Haha I have no clue but it seems familiar! So... there's that.

Ugh... rules that that (the locker thing) bother me. In this case you're paying so much already, why shouldn't you be able to keep your stuff with you? I mean, if your whole group wanted to ride, you're pretty much out of luck. It's practically paying to ride. Not cool! (Busch Gardens is the same way... ugh haha)
I agree, inverted roller coasters are the best!

The Seuss show looks like fun! It is a little weird that they didn't have Thing 2 there, though... :confused3 hahah.

Thanks for the great update in Seussland! I do love love that top that you have on too! Just had to say!

Since it was the end of August, the crowds weren't too bad. It was the most crowded at WWoHP and mostly just around the castle. Many of the rides barely had a wait and since we were staying on property, we could utilize their front of the ride privileges. We just couldn't use that perk at the Forbidden Journey and a couple of other new rides.

When you thrown in a character, my little girl is a happy camper!:thumbsup2

Oh, I can definitely pack the food in! Just ask my coworkers.

Universal was fun because we had never been before. While Islands of Adventure was nice and some great theming in some areas, many areas of the park were seriously lacking. HP is probably the only reason I would keep going back.

Yes, that locker thing was a pain. It didn't cost any money to store the stuff at each ride, it was just a pain. I usually carry a crossbody bag just so it's easier to tour the parks, but that bag didn't fly either. Lucky for us, we had the stroller.

I don't know if Thing 2 doesn't usually go in the show or if it was just this particular show. But no worries, we got to see him later on in the week.

Great update. Those Suess characters seem like lots of fun!

Thanks for reading still! The Seuss characters were pretty fun to see.

Thanks for the great update in Seussland! I do love love that top that you have on too! Just had to say!

Well, we spent a lot of time in Suessland, haha. Thanks! I have the top in black too!

Another great update.

Love your shirt - so cute!

I have decided I am never having butter beer. It sounds disgustingly rich and full of calories.

So what is this about the dueling dragon coaster not running side by side anymore. For real????? I love those coasters. They broke my fear of inverted loops and I will be forever grateful (although I did lose one of my favorite earrings on that ride).

What a great evening. Did you ride the Hulk? I love  that ride.

You are totally making me want to go back there. The pool looks like a blast and I can't wait to hear about Bubba Gumps!

The consumption of food and alcohol is always more enjoyable when it takes place next to a body of water. It's a proven fact. :lmao:

I still have yet to try the frozen butterbeer. I've only had the regular one and enjoyed it very much.

Love the meet and greets, even if your little one wasn't familiar with the characters. What a brave girl.
