We're putting our dog down tomorrow. Update: pg 4

Very sad. I believe someone once said, "If you want to see ten years of your life go by fast, get a dog". I am sorry that you haven't even had 10 years. I didn't with Annie. You will always miss your pup. I still miss her.

We had to put our chow down 9 years ago. She was 13 and the sweetest dog, a cuddly cat. Dh loved her just as much as I did and he made the decision and took her to the vet by himself because he knew I couldn't, so not only do I get tears in my eyes when I think of her, I get them because of how kind he was to do that for me.

I haven't been on these boards for awhile now but to see your posting about your beautiful dog brings tears to my eyes. This brings back memories of letting our cat go so many years ago. There was a line in a book that says to let our beloved pets go with dignity and this is how I coped. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care.

We had to do this recently with two of our old dogs and it was the worst decision I have ever had to make. Being there for the injection was hard but I couldn't imagine not being there.

It'll take time for the ache to go away. Sending prayers to you and your family and especially to your beautiful dog.

21 days ago, I had to say good-bye to my dear sweet dog, Abby. She was just seven years old. She was sick and in pain. The medicine wasn't making her better. So we had the choice to make of prolonging her suffereing in hopes of finding the cause or letting her go. I know we made the right decision for her; as she has gone on to a better place. Still my heart still aches because she is no longer here with us.

Personally, I am starting to look for a new puppy/dog. I know when the time is right our other Chocolate lab, Allie, will have a playmate again! I know I will never be able to replace Abby; but my hearty is big enough and my love strong enough to share with someone new. I hope in time you will be able to as well!

a few years ago when I was 11 [im 16] we had to have my dog Tigger put to sleep, we had him before I was even born. He used to protect me when I was little and circle around me

Well, we had him put to sleep at my grandmas house in South Carolina. He was blind, his tail broken, peed randomly because he couldn't see where outside was to go potty and he was like 15 years old.
He gave me the best years of my childhood and he followed us all over the world since my dad was in the military and right after he retired, we put him to sleep .. so he lasted everywhere.

The injection is the hardest part and just let your tears go. Even if it is hard, stay with your baby. They will get scared a little but once the first one is in, they will relax and the vet will let you know what is happening and let you hold him and once the 2nd one is in, they will leave you alone ..
and this is hard to say but after the 2nd one while holding him you can feel their body become limp and that is when it is hard.

Bring a blanket to wrap them in and keep their scent on. we still have the last flower Tigger sniffed and the blanket we held him in on the way to the vet and we took pictures with him the day before.

I absolutely dread having to do this to my baby Lucky. She is 9 almost 10 and she is already starting to go blind in 1 eye .. it was hard with Tigger but I don't think my other dog Little Man can survive without Lucky.
If you have ever seen 'where the red fern grows', it is like that with them. They are close. He cries if she leaves the room and when they are in the same room they have to sit right next to each other, always touching.

We have had Chows for the past 28 years and I understand how awful it is to lose one of our special furbabies. We lost one to Lupus, two to cancer and only two years ago, our big guy Miko, to a splenic tumor at age 10. It was very sudden, and he just fell over at home and was gone in minutes. He too was a gentle soul and I still miss him. It does get easier with time, but as you know, these Chow's steal our hearts with a hold that never lets go. May I suggest that you go to www.chowchow.org to post a memorial to your boy; the Chow people on those boards are amazing and will understand how difficult this is for you. We have one Chow now, a three year old female, along with a five year old Bichon. I love my Bichon with all my heart, but a Chow is like no other.

Oh I am so sorry! I have been there. We had to put one of our golden retrievers down this year. It is without a doubt one of the hardest things in the world. They are not just "dogs." They are family. I will absolutely send prayers to your sweet pooch and to you. Again, I am so sorry.

I am so sorry. It was just a little over two weeks ago that I had my beautiful golden, Griffen put down. I know what you are going through. I'd give anything to spare you from it. It is so hard. Your mind tells you that it is best while your heart is breaking.
