A year ago I was getting to run in my fifth Disney Marathon/Half/Goofy. Then the week before the race, I tore a ligament in my toe. No race. No exercise for quite a while, either. Then, just when the toe was getting better, I messed up my back, which aggravated an old hip injury, to boot. No exercise for a longer while. I finally (late summer) get back to exercising but I'm so out shape, everything hurts. Disgust and frustration sets in and I put in some more couch time. Through it all, however, I kept eating!

And now, it has come to this. I finally got the courage to let the Wii weigh me and it's at 181. Ho. Ly. Mo. Ly. :scared1: I knew it was bad, but hoped it wouldn't be that bad. I need to lose about 40 pounds to get back to healthy.

I have a plan, however. I did a modified weight watchers years and years ago when I got heavy in college. I can repeat that with some minor changes to accommodate my older body. Exercise is going to be another matter. I'm so used to being able to go full out that regressing back to basically beginner status is frustrating. I hate going slow, but going any other way is likely to re-aggravate all my injuries until I can get my back and foot stronger.

Baby steps are the name of the game. My game plan here is to lose the weight this year and get back to a good base level of fitness. Then, next year, train for the 20th anniversary marathon. I don't care if I have to walk the whole thing, I want to do that one.

This boards is so inspiring, I hope to hang out a lot and get support from all you cool people. I'll try not to whine too much!

Injuries suck, there is no doubt about it! I'm dealing with one now. :confused3 Having people to encourage you and also to vent your frustrations helps a lot! Good luck!:thumbsup2

Just had knee surgery here too, so I feel you. I gained almost 50lbs sitting on my well now chubby butt.:rotfl2:

I did the Goofy +5K a few years ago and was hoping to do 2011. Well the new plan is 2012, so I know the pain.

Seems like you have a very sound plan. With that you definitely can do this.

WISHing you all the best as you take those steps one at a time!

You can totally do this. TOTALLY. And feel free to join our little group if you want support--we're the Team Goddess part of WISH and we are in the thread "In Search of My Body--I get by with a little help from my friends."

A lot of us are post-injury too and/or just fell off the exercise bandwagon for a while -- and some are getting ready for the Princess next month.

If you've done it before, you can do it again! I agree, this is an inspiring place to be! An amazing journey starts with the first step... best wishes to you! :cheer2:
