Weird AP question.

This may possibly be the weirdest (dumbest) question about AP's but here goes. Maybe there is a forensic specialist who is a Disney fanatic that can help me...

I am thinking about getting an AP this year. I know they take a finger scan each time you use it, as well as when you first pick it up. I have eczema on my fingers, not bad, but enough to make my finger tips dry and cracked at times. There are times that I have to use a fine emory board to get some of the dry skin off. It must affect my fingerprints. Will my fingerprints match still? I told my husband, he laughed at me. I thought I could never be caught committing a crime because of this! But seriously, what do they do if you have a problem like this? (like what if you don't have some of your fingers?)

I told you it was a weird one, but I am 100% (well, maybe 95%) serious. What do you think-any cops out there????

The scan machines aren't looking at your fingerprints. I believe they are looking instead at the size/length and contours of your fingers.

Worst case, they will simply ask to see your photo ID to compare the name with that on your AP.

I'm sure you won't encounter trouble because of your skin condition!

My husband has cracked fingers too.
Actually, they really don't take a finger scan. What you do is make a peace sign and stick your fingers in that contraption thing at the gate. It measures your fingers or somethiong like that. Anyway, Sometims the darn thing doesn't read right. It happened several times to us. So what they have to do is reset their machines for you at the gate. Pain but, they will let you in.

I imagine that when we go back, we will have the same problem again.

I was about to post pretty much the same thing as the pp's, but my power went out! Oh well....

As the pp's said, it's not really fingerprints. It's called a "biometric finger scan". Allearsnet.com (referenced in the link in Kathy's post) has a great explanation of how it works.

My mom has severe arthritis and never gets the scan to work for her. Her fingers are very crooked so they never match. The CM just waves her on and it isn't a problem. I would not worry about it. You will be fine.

Just remember to carry some picture id with you in case the scan doesn't work. Most CMs will ask for it if the scan fails
