I have recently joined Weight Watchers and have really had success with it. For all the dieters at Disney, how do you manage to hang on with all the amazing food? Is there anywhere I can look to find points values for some of the Disney must haves (Dole Whip, Churro, Filet at Yachtsman, etc)?

Go and enjoy yourself but be careful also. I gained five pounds my last trip but it was the first time I enjoyed myself. Everything is ok in moderation, instead of eating like a full lunch, split it with some one, same with a snack. You will be walking a lot of course, but don't let your guard down or you may come home kicking yourself. Don't stress out too much, or you will be miserable

Use common sense & the tools WW is giving BUT don't stress out over it. It is a vacation.

I agree with PP about sharing meals or only eating half. Portion control is typically a major issue for those of us who have to work to control our weight & WDW portions are huge (IMO). Remember it's about choices not deprivation.

I always seem to gain 3 lbs. when we visit but as soon as we get home I become very regimented again & it comes back off within 7-10 days. It used to make me insane, now it is only annoying (especially since DH always comes home 3 lbs lighter).

I lost 30 pounds on weight watchers and loved the program! However, when I went to Disney for 8 days I DID NOT count points. I ate what I wanted and still lost 2 pounds. Probably from all the walking and activity.

I agree do not stress out about staying on program.

I am on WW also.

I have a plan to fill up on vegetables and fruits first.

I agree with eating half portions and sharing desserts and treats.

I also agree to eat what you want while on vacation, you do not have to eat it all.

Remember the first bite tastes the same as the last bite.

In the past I have made myself so miserable when doing the WW program by trying to be perfect instead of enjoying myself in moderation.

If you do gain while at disney plan for it. I have a plan that the month I get back will be spent losing what I gained at Disney, just in case I do gain. It makes me feel better to know I have scheduled time to enjoy myself on vacation. I plan to not regret one thing I put in my mouth!

Have fun! You are on vacation!

Dave you are so full of sarcasm! I enjoy every one of your posts! Sarcastic Humor is my favorite to lighten a mood!

I mean this in a nice fun way, so that no one thinks I am picking on you!

Dole Whips are not exclusive to Disney so you can google the nutritional information. I think a serving is about 2 points which is a great treat for not many PP+. Since Disney doesn't have to provide nutritional information they don't but any products that they sell that are also sold beyond the walls of Disney you can usually find online. The packaged that have wrappers in the park (ice cream novelties comes to mind) tend to have the NI printed on the package.

In general...

I have gone on several trips while on WW and I don't stress about it too much. I try to make sure I am meeting the good health guidlines (enough fruits and veggies, enough water, etc) and just enjoy myself and it works well, but you could always try Simply Filling for the trip?

You can always request fruit and sometimes veggies instead of fries (or order a la cart and just get the entree) which is what I try to do at least 1 meal per day so I am not over doing it on fried food while still enjoying being on vacation.

Remmeber that the water down there tastes terrible so either bring a water bottle with a filter in it (like Brita or Bobble) or bring some low cal water flavor pouches like Crystal Light so you keep drinking water and stay hydrated.

I have found that I "gain" a pound or two while on the trip but it is really water retention and once I get back home and drinking more water the weight comes off and then some within the week. It is just so hot and humid down there and you do so much extra walking that it is hard to stay properly hydrated.

Best of luck staying on/near plan! Have a great time!

I've been doing Weight Watchers for a year now and was worried about it on our trip in October. I did end up gaining about 2lbs but like the pp stated it was more water weight then anything. I didn't find I ate as much as I wanted to before I left. I think due to heat and walking and rides you don't eat so much. There really isn't any way to count points while you are there, trust me I tried before going, lol, so my advice would just to take it easy and just enjoy yourself. You can relose the weight, if gained, easily when you get home. It's only a week. :) To be honest again like the pp try and order fruit and veggies when possible. Also for me I only ever drink crystal light and diet pop due to 0 points value I would stick with those. Also for me and maybe others, having to worry about counting points on top of everything else I don't want to do when on vacation.

Thanks, Annie. You're one of the few :) But yeah, for the most part, people take themselves waaayyy to seriously on these Disney forums..

My wife was on WW the last trip and did great. We walked so much that it counteracted some of the indulgences. I will be doing the same thing in April and intend to be sensible and not count points as methodically. It’s vacation and I will indulge, but I still have will power and a plan. If you are one to lose focus forever with one misstep you may struggle when surrounded by so many temptations. If you fall off the diet wagon in Disney be sure to get right back on when you get home. It seems that many who have committed to WW still do very well even when they “have fun” at Disney. Make sensible choices, eat ½ of the indulgence or split with someone, and focus on the parks not the food!

First visit 1976, Pre-2010 too many off sites to remember, WDW 2/2010 BC CL, Disneyland GC 12/2010, WDW 4/2012 POLY TPV, WDW 7/2012 (off site), WDW 12/12 POP and 4/2013 POLY with Disney Dream cruise!

I've been on Weight Watchers on and off since (more on than off) since February 2011 and in all have lost 60 lbs...and still losing! (I have a lot to lose!)

I've been on plan each time we've been to WDW. I don't follow to the "t" when I am on vacation. But I do try to eat veggies and fruits and I avoid fried foods as much as I can. Due to all of the walking I've never gained on a trip.

Best of luck and most importantly HAVE FUN! Don't stress about the points!

I just got off a cruise last week- loved it that i lost 2.9 pounds.

not counting points but was careful of what I ate. portion control. salad and veggies-
throwing away rolls on burgers and hot dogs.

you can still enjoy the vacation- but know the good choices vs NOT so good choices

I lost 35 pounds on the subway diet. I gained 20 back after 10 years. I dieted and lost 15, went to Disney and gained 6, now I'm back to dieting and plan on losing the rest. It's Disney, how often do you get to go? Relax, enjoy, and eat whatever you want to weight watchers will be there when you get back.

My sister was on weight watchers and she totally stuck to her diet. She even came home 6 pounds lighter and she ate well and really enjoyed herself. I hope that helps.

Thank you all so much for your advise and support. I am anxious to see how this goes. I really want to enjoy myself while in the parks, but I do not want to blow my whole "lifestyle change." I am calling it that, I feel like it is less dramatic than diet. I think my plan will be to enjoy an indulgence while remaining aware. Thank you so much.

Great advice from everyone.

I've been following slimming world for a year(similar to ww, I believe they've started groups in some places in the states) so far lost nearly 60lbs. I've come to the conclusions after many different diets that I will have to follow this for the rest of my life I I don't want to get fat fat fat again but it fits very well into daily life so isn't much of a problem. When I go on holiday I don't follow the plan but its so ingrained in me that I automatically make better choices anyway, big example I'm a sucker for proper coke, that syrupy sweet goodness yet I now automatically choose diet even when I'm having a naughty day.

So my mantra is enjoy our dole whip and cupcakes, just make some good choices other times and don't beat yourself up if you gain some when you get back, it's a marathon not a sprint and no one will begrudge you a few stop offs on the way!!

I am lifetime WW member plus I also work for WW and have had many enjoyable trips to Disney being on WW enjoying all my favorite Dinsey foods.

First of all, whether or not you know it, you will naturally make better choices while at Disney simply from habit of being on WW. Also you will find some of those yummy treats you used to scarf down will over fill you and make you feel uncomfortable and you will not want to eat as much as you will get full sooner. All wonderful benefits of being on WW and being used to eating healthier and better portioned meals.

When I go to Disney I don't worry about points or tracking...I go to enjoy myself. I allow myself to enjoy a week of the foods I want and not feel guilty or bad if I come back gaining some weight. I am naturally more active at Disney especially since I lost the weight and again, my food choices are better than they were pre WW and I can't eat as much. I enjoy myself knowing when I get home I will go right back on program and whatever I gained will be recycled and I will lose it. If you want, at your first WW meeting after your trip you can do a no weigh in if you don't want to see the gain. As long as you go to your meeting and get right back on track you will be fine.

And as strange as it may sound, you will want to go back on program after you get back. After a week of eating foods you usually don't you look forward to your salads and fruit and power foods as too much of good thing leaves you feeling over full.

As pp said...it's a journey not a race. Vacation is a time to have fun and step out of your every day reality - we all need it. You will be more aware of what you eat because of WW but don't obsess over it or feel bad if you gain while on vacation....have fun and know that WW is there as your anchor when you come back to reality.

Have fun!

I have been on the WW lifestyle change over a year now. Well said! I agree!

Another WW member and employee chiming in - you've already gotten some great, great replies! Just to add - whenever I go to Disney, I don't track points and just make the best choices possible, ie fruit or veg whenever possible, when we go to the buffet I start with a big salad and fruit before I get my main meal items, I usually share baked treats (the cupcakes are HUGE!), but not ice cream (nor the popcorn...). Also, I drink in moderation, but I have a glass of water before I'll even order the booze, plus have more water along with the drink.

Being aware is HUGE, and you'll probably naturally make good choices anyway. Some Disney things aren't available anywhere else (Zebra Domes come to mind), so I enjoy them, knowing I only get them once a year.

Have a great trip, and congrats on your WW journey!
