Thanks! Can I ask where you work out? I'm from the west side of Cleveland and am looking for places around here. I've already seen some "holiday specials" so I might take advantage of those to try out different places.
I have memberships at both Fitworks and Urban Active. The UA one is free through my insurance or else I wouldn't have joined two.
I like both of those because they have multiple locations around town and I can work them into my schedule easier. I'll be at Crocker a little later today and can swing into the Urban Active there for an hour. Of those two which is better would depend on what you are doing. There are more machines at UA such as cable stations and treadmills, they have a lap pool and an indoor track. I would assume for most women they offer more of what you are looking for. They are very expensive though. I do a lot of free weights and the Fitworks in Rocky River has a lot of options for them. They do have a lot of machines, treadmills, and classes too, but UA has more.
I would go check those two out and decide for yourself. They will show you around and might even let you get a week pass to see how you like it. There are other gyms but I haven't been to them so I don't want to give bad info. The one exception is Lifeworks which is right next to Southwest Hospital. It is a great club but is only at that one location. Price wise they are between FW and UA but only have one location.
Check with your insurance because some offer reduced rates or free memberships at partner gyms. I have Anthem who partnered with a company called HRC that offers classes, forums, and other perks like the gym memberships.
Where you live greatly affects what trainers charge. I know a trainer that charges $250 an hour and has no openings. The gym I worked at charged $ 75 per session. We also sold packages that came out to less per session.

Hey AP, just checking in to let you know I did it! I went to the gym today for the first time, with my DD14, and I loved it. I feel so good now. What a cheap high and all natural -- endorphins. Of course, I'll be hurting tomorrow but it will be a good kind of hurt. So get out there and get started!

Thanks! I tried Fitworks before in River and just saw everyone from high school and I couldn't go there without running into someone I didn't want to talk to!! I think I'm going to try UA and possibly check into Ballys - that's where the girl I ran into has been going.

Good for you!! That's awesome! You're already inspiring me and you've only been to the gym once I'm planning on checking them out tomorrow, so I'll let you know!
