Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Yes it was great chatting with you for afternoons on end...I guess our version of tapering....lol

Do you know what corral you are in? I am in corral E wave 2. It would be great if we are in the same one.

Yes we will definatley be there Friday at POP. Can't wait to see everyone again

:woohoo: We are in the same group! Are you on your taper yet? I still have two long runs, 9 mi this Sat and 10 the following. I'm starting to get impatient, we don't leave for WDW until 1/8...

Where are you staying? We're at CSR this year.

Hi Jean!!!!

Maria, I have done hardly any training at all. So anything I get out there to do is a bonus but we just have had to much snow it is impossible to get out there. I will definately be a back of the pack finisher this year....actually I will just be glad to finish. DH is going the full this year. He hasn't trained much either, but he has a really physical job so he should be fine.

We are at POP from Jan 8 - 12 then BCV from Jan 12 - 16th.

Jeanne -- You are a pro, you will do fine! I'm sorry to hear you can't continue as captain, but I certainly understand. I'm not adverse to keeping Team Ohana going, if someone else is willing to step into the captain's shoes!

Kim -- What a wonderful trip you will have -- that is a great, nice long break. We are at CSR the 8th - 14th, then back to the real world for us. I know what you mean about the training. I have been slacking off on everything but the long runs. I'm actually looking forward to getting back to normal, so I end up with more daily exercise. I'm joining the BL7 thread, so I'm going to kick it into high gear. Trust me, it's necessary! :(

I should do that also. I have a cruise coming up in April and my friend is a lot thinner then I am. So I have about 17 weeks to lose 50 pds....is that possible...lol

Hey everyone. Just popping in to say hello. My weight has stayed about the same and I've decided to deal with the slight weight gain after the Goofy Challenge.

Hope everything is going well for everyone!

Did a 6 miler today on the treadmill. 10 minute miles so I was pretty happy with that.

Actually....if you lose an average of 2 lb per week for 17 weeks, that's 34 lbs...

Now all we have to do is stop eating the cheez-its! :lmao:

Jean, Tracy, & Beth.

I do have both the Black and Red Mickey Ears. I got my black pair from Disneyland at the regular price. Then I found the red pair a the the Disney Character outlet in Fullerton for like $12.

The sale was at the actual Hawaii Croc warehouse. It's not an outlet store. They opened up from Friday to Sunday, and it was one of the best sales I have ever been to. I'm NOT a shopper, and I couldn't pass up on the deals they had. Nothing was over $15, and most of the pairs we bought were $5.

Maria,

In January, 2008 I arrived on New Year's day, and had 12 days to acclimate before the first race. This year, I have 3 days. It will be interesting. A Florida 5:55 am start, is like me running here in Hawaii at 12:55 am.

Hey Stacie. And Aloha to everyone else out there.

Hi All,

Beth - It sounds like that last hill of your race was a killer! I have to do my cookie-baking tomorrow. Wish me luck that I don't "test" too many cookies.

Jeff - That crocs sale must have been amazing! :)

Maria - Sorry that your office is cold. I hope you're able to warm up soon. Our streets are ok, but not everyone is good about doing sidewalks. I have no idea how I'm going to run this week! :confused3 Plus, I'm very nervous about slipping on ice and hurting myself this close to race day.

Tracey - 12 miles on the TM - wow! :worship:

Stacie - Congrats on being brave enough to try the ice bath. I haven't worked up the courage to try that yet. :scared1:

Jeanne - Sorry to hear that your 20 miler was only so-so, but you got your miles in and that's what matters! :thumbsup2

Chris - I would love to be able to do 10 min miles someday ("Speedy" is definitely not my middle name  ). Great for you! :cool1:

Hi  to all of the other Lean Meaners. Have a wonderful holiday season! I'm really looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible next month! :goodvibes

Okay, I'm just jumping back in here, hat in hand and foot in mouth. That last bit is probably the healthiest thing I've had in my mouth in months. Full disclosure: Since I posted here last I've gained 6 pounds and am heavier than I've been in 4 years. Guess what I'm doing post-marathon?

Anyway, I'm glad to be back and posting--even though I know I'll be posting when most of you are enjoying family time. (Me, my ILs showed up for the holidays early, and so I really, really need online down, time.)

Stacie: You're going to do great on the half. Just remember we'll be cheering you on. And I'll be at a water stop (don't remember which one at this point, but it's with Dave.) Hate the ice baths myself, but swear by them.

Maria: Exchanging gifts, lunch, yoga. That doesn't sound like your normal work environment at all. (But you deserve it, of course.) And I'm sure you made quite the fashion statement with the scarf in the office. Or at least making a statement about those humane work conditions. You should be Ohana's captain if our beloved Jeanne can't make it.

Kim: Ooooh, I know I haven't gotten to talk with you a lot, but I hope to see you at Pop. We'll be there from the 3 to the 12.

Jeanne: Merry Christmas! It sounds like your life is as busy as ever. You got your 20 in--that's what matters! Now it's just getting to the start, right?

Aloha Jeff: I have no doubt that you'll acclimatize quickly. Or maybe you can just claim that the WDW marathon for you is like a midnight race, adding that to your list of "races no one should ever attempt." You so deserve those kinds of bragging rights.

Chris: I'm with Julie. I'd love to do 10mm consistently. It should be fun to have you hanging around here after the marathon, if you're so inclined.

Julie: You make cookies, I make fruitcake and pumpkin cheesecake. You'd think the latter would prevent me from testing, but there's that whole "lick the bowl" tradition. (If I do something year-round, regardless of whether I share the beaters with anyone else, is it really a tradition?)

To all other Lean Meaners: Beth, Vicky, Cindy, Wendy, Lisa, Amy, Tracey, Howard, Mike, and all I may have missed: :cheer2:  :worship: I've missed you all more than I can say.

Another Deb sighting, someone pick me up off of the ground, I must have fainted. LOL, welcome back.

I did 8 1/4 miles on the beach of Waikiki. It was a sand workout, and checked out all the people watching the sunset. While they were sucking down Mai Tai's and Pina Colada's, they were watching me plod along through the sand.

:cheer2: :cheer2: Yay, Deb's back:cheer2: :cheer2: You have been missed!

Jeff....you know all those people were just checking you out and thinking, "That lucky dog lives here and gets to enjoy this gorgeous place everyday!" And by the way, a pina colada sounds pretty fantastic right now.

Merry Christmas, friends. Wishing you all joy, peace, and love.

14 days to the 5K
15 days to the half
16 days to the full

:scared1: I did my 9 miler today, just one more long wog next week, and I'll be in taper city!

I'm going to throw this question out on a few threads, because I'm not sure who might have the answer. Last year after the Half, I meant to keep working out, and I did, but I think I took too long to get back to a decent level of working out. I think that for me, ideally if I'm not training for a long race, that's 4 mi short wogs and 6 mi long. So, does anyone know of a good recovery plan to get you back to speed? The one in MfM has 3, 4, then 5 mi for lsd. That means 3 weeks, and seems a little slow to me, but I didn't do it right last year, so I don't know if that's more realistic and I'm overly ambitious. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Maria :upsidedow

Jeff: I think I'm channeling my inner you, as it's been several days of drinking during these holidays. Either that, or I have really bad coping mechanisms when it comes to holiday stress. Regardless, I run (walk) to drink these days.

Tracey: I've missed you! How are your DS doing? I've been thinking of you and your family escapades as my family (I'm the youngest here this holiday ) try to have outdoor adventures. I'm sure yours are much more active, though.

Maria: 9 miles and another week before taper? That means you're tapering for a week, right? Maybe that's a good strategy for building back up then. Instead of a three week taper, a two week or one week? You can always scale back on a LSD if it doesn't feel right, but maybe you need to plan to be back in maintenance soon. I know that DOOD and I will take it easy for a couple of sessions, but then by the end of two weeks we'll be in non-training mileage. It's best for us mentally. (That is, normally. This time I'm not tapering because I'm coming back from an injury. So I'm walking the marathon and treating it as part of training until I can get back to my normal wog.)

As for me: I did 6 miles today, mostly walking with a couple of R intervals thrown in to see how the back feels. It's okay, but there's nothing like back pain to make me feel old and crotchety. DOOD and I are postponing our LR and LW until Sunday to spend the last full day with his parents before they leave Pgh. Then we see them in Disney, starting the 7th. They'll be there to watch him run the marathon.

Hi Lean Meaners

Jeff...keep countin' us down. I can't wait to see some flowers again, it's all brown here.
Deb...Hi girl! Sorry to hear that your back is bothering you. It sounds like you've had alot of company for the holidays ;) . My kidlets are great. They had a wonderful Christmas and I keep mentioning places to go and things to do and they just want to stay at home and veg! So, you're the baby of the family? Me, too! In my circumstance, and being the only girl, I was slightly spoiled;). We are having crazy weather here with 65 degree days and rain, rain, rain! Last week it was freezing with blustery winds and yesterday we ran in shorts! We'd love to be playing out in the snow, but it looks like that's not gonna happen. What have y'all been doing?
Maria...Now, take into consideration that this is my first 1/2 marathon, but I'm planning on taking is slightly easy the first week with 3 runs at 2-3 miles each and then moving into maintanance which will be 4-6 mile runs with an 8-10 mile LR every 3rd week. I always seem to stick with doing what your body tells you to do? I ran my 12 miler last week, I'm planning on 10 for tomorrow, and then tapering.
Everybody else:    I'm sure you're doing all kinds of fun things.

I got my Garmin from my mom and daddy for Christmas and I LOVE IT! What a great little tool:cool1: . I got lots of workout clothes and Nike gloves and a beanie! I'm so excited that I've only gained 1 lb., with all the peppermintini's, cheesecake, ham, etc(I could go on and on) I expected worse. Have a great day all and stay strong!

Okay, here I am. Did you miss me for the last 17 hours?

Yesterday, the Big island, Maui, Lanai, Molokai were under a flash flood warning due to 2" of rain per hour.

Last night on Oahu, at 5:30 pm a pretty violent storm rolled in from the East off the Pacific ocean. Cold air + warm air = lightning, thunder, pouring rain. By 6 pm the lights had flickered a couple of times, so I went to grab the flashlights. Just as I was changing the batteries in one, everything went dark.

We spent the evening reading, kids played their DS', and wife watched videos on her Archos Wi-Fi player.

After a few hours, I thought, hmm maybe I should turn on my radio to listen to the news. That's when I found out one of our two power plants took a direct hit by lightning. They system automatically shuts itself down, and takes over 12 hours to reboot the island.

So apparently all the tourists in Waikiki were stranded walking up and down stairs, had nowhere to eat, and no where to shop.

This morning we slept in, read, and listened to the news radio. Broke out the Coleman stove to make some breakfast.

This is my second island wide power outage in 20 years of living here. Minor inconvenience for us. Water use restrictions since the pumps don't pump water up the mountain we live on. We don't open up the refrigerator or freezer, so the food won't spoil in the 24 hour window.

President-Elect Obama and his family were also in the dark in Kailua. The electric company brought a emergency generator over in the middle of the night, but he actually went to bed like the rest of us when the lights went out. He's been relaxing Hawaiian Style. Low-key, not in the spotlight.

With all the relaxing we've done, we're going to head out into the rain and go hiking to Makapuu Lighthouse in search of humpback whales.

See you all later in the day.

P.S. My suitcase and backpck for WDW are packed, since we're headed to Maui on Wednesday. Won't have time to do it next week, so I got it done yesterday before the outage.

Hello Lean Meaners!

Debra - Ooooh, pumpkin cheesecake sounds yummy! I think licking the bowl can be a tradition, even if you do it year-round. That way, you're forced to lick the bowl when you bake since you can't mess with tradition! I hope your back is doing ok. How did it feel after your 6 miler?

Maria - How was your 9 miler? How long is your long wog next week?

Tracy - A garmin and lots of workout clothes - you must have been very good this year! I'm jealous that you only gained 1 lb this season. I'm not stepping anywhere near a scale this week. :scared1:

Jeff - I can't believe you're packed already! :worship: I thought I was being organzied by deciding to make a packing list tonight.

As for me, I'm definitely ready to be done with all of the holiday eating and drinking. I haven't had much time for merriment the past day or two since my little guy is sick. But I was able to get 12 miles in the morning, so that was good. It was a tough 12 miles though because I didn't get much sleep - poor baby was up all night. It's amazing to me that my DH can sleep through coughing and crying in the middle of the night. :scared:

Hello  to all of the other Lean Meaners out there!

Tracey: Your holidays sounds perfect--vegging with loved ones can be so stress-free. And then being able to run in shorts! We had a similar experience here yesterday. It hit 68 degrees yesterday, near the record of 70. Everyone was outside enjoying the weather, especially because it rained steadily on Friday.

Actually, I'm not the baby of the family--just the youngest one at DOOD's family gathering. I didn't get to see my family this year, as it's not their year. I'm still spoiled though! :) Not Garmin and WO clothes spoiled, but I have aspirations! Your gifts sound great! And congrats on gaining only 1 lb. I have to step up and on the scale tomorrow. I'm not sure I want to know. (Denial, gotta love it.)

Jeff: Glad to hear you and your family are all right, and made the power outage a family adventure/bonding time. And wow--packed already? Congrats! I'm really behind schedule this year, haven't even started to think about it. Great gusty pics, btw. That's a light breeze for Fargo (so glad I moved).

Julie: As much as I love pumpkin cheesecake, I'm with you. I've had more than enough of holiday eating and drinking this year. And when I'm with my ILs I drink--a lot! :drinking1 I often suspect that the last few LRs are always hard before a race, but I'm sorry to hear because your DS is/was ill. How are you feeling about the upcoming race--I just know you're gonna do great! :woohoo:

As for me: I put off my LW until today, as my ILs/family stayed until through until this morning (we'll see them at Disney in 9 days). I'm only up to 16, but hoping that walking will get me through the marathon. Walkers, you rock! I'm finding new muscles with this strategy, and the low-impact is helping my back recover nicely. Only twinges of discomfort now and then, and usually when I sit too long.

For 2009 I need to commit more seriously to core and strength training, which fell off these last few months and probably contributed to my extended recovery time. That, and weight loss and back to running. I'm planning on Goofy 2010, so it's best to look forward and not back, right?

One last fun note: what's it say about me that I received a bourbon sampler as a gift? Other than I have good taste, of course.
