Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

The Honolulu Marathon EXPO was a bit disappointing compared to years past. Not as many vendors, and no freebies being handed out. GU had free samples, but you had to squirt some out onto a spoon, not packets. Most of the vendors were geared towards the Japanese participants.

Notice how empty the packet and chip pick up was at 5 pm.

The Nike merchandise was pretty big, but very pricey.

The TOP OF WAIKIKI restaurant was the best of the vendors. They were giving out unlimited samples of crab cakes, two different pastas, bread with seafood spread, and Plantation Ice Tea. The server thought my girls were cute, so she told them eat as much as you want until your full. Boy did my girls chow down.

The Runningskirts sisters, Christy and Cindy were there. They said they may not be at the Disney Marathon Weekend, but will be at the Princess Half Marathon weekend.

Hey everybody!
Beth....Oh that's right, you're going to Puerto Rico!!!! Have a wonderful time, what a great getaway for your family. My DS is into the Stormbreaker series, too. The cake sounds yummy, it sounds like a nice treat for Christmas.
Jeff...Beautiful pics as always. Is that a hotel or convention center? Love the girls in front of the "runners" wall. And I do believe the runningskirts gals were wearing Cheetah skirts...hmmmmm, I may need to think about one of those.
Amy....you mentioned (a couple of posts back) about Run/walk intervals. I read, I believe in a Jeff Galloway book, that it's better to take your walk intervals early and often and then as you move through the race and are feeling good you can cut back or lose them. I've done my long runs with a walk break after every 19 minutes. I usually find that after an hour in, that I don't really need them anymore and if I do take them, then I really tighten up. It sounds like you were having the same problem. It's too bad that I read alot and then can't remember where I read it.:goodvibes
Everybody else.... Happy Day!
I'll be running on the TM again today, but that's okay because it will break up all the laundry, cleaning, and Christmas cards that I need to be working on. I've lost 1/2 of that stinkin' pound I gained, oh well, what's a girl gonna do? I must have some culprit in my diet that's not helping me, I just need to figure out what it is. I gave up soda 3 weeks ago and was hoping that it was the problem, apparently it's not. My workout group is having a Christmas party next week and we're bringing $1 gifts for a rob your neighbor game....any suggestions?
Have a great day, all!:grouphug:

:cheer2: :cheer2: Happy Friday!!!:cheer2: :cheer2:

This must be a busy week for everybody. I hope everyone is getting their training in and staying strong if the cookies are tempting you (I speak from experience). Have a wonderful weekend. We're expected to get an ice storm next week so I'm making sure to get my long run in on Sunday while the weather is still somewhat nice.
Jeff....Have a great race this weekend! Don't forget to give us a report and show us the pics.;)

Tracy,

Looks like it's just you and me here on the WISH boards. Everyone else is out shopping for our gifts! :lmao:

The EXPO photos are from our Hawaii Convention Center.

Yesterday a huge storm rolled through the state, wreaking havoc everywhere. One part of Oahu had over 14 inches of rain. It was a whacky, whacky day! It's quiet right now, but we could still get even more rain today.

I'll be attending a private party tonight at our Honolulu Marathon clinic. Frank Shorter and Jeff Galloway are expected to attend. I've met Frank before, very cool guy. Just in case you don't know their names, they were both Olympic marathoners.

Thanks for the well wishes for Sunday.

Hey Meaners! I am coming to you live from PR! I have to say my workout day was the best! I stayed in the gym, and went x2. The first trip was 5 miles on the TM and weights. The second trip was with ds#1 (to get him on the TM) and I did another 30 mins on the stepper and 30 min on the bike. It makes up for the lack of workout on Wed and Thurs.

Have a good weekend!

Beth

Oh, so that's where everyone is...I can't wait to see what we get.;) I've read a couple of Jeff Galloway books and think it would be awesome to hear him speak. I'm looking so forward to seeing Team Hoyt at the WDW Expo.

Beth....you lucky girl! Wow, you're the workout queen on vacay, make sure you run on the beach for me....it became one of my favorite things to do.

Everybody else....

Carb Loading!

Frank Shorter and me. (Jeff Galloway was a no-show)

Copied from the race report thread.

Well, the good news is I PR'd!!! 5:11:49.

I was feeling in the groove through mile 15 1/2, and then the legs said that's enough and cramped up on me. I ended up walking the remaining 11 miles back to the finish, and whenever I attempted to run the cramps returned.

Oh well, it was a training run for next month.

Rain was falling the first 12 miles, then it faded to a drizzle. Finally around mile 20 the sun popped out, and made it hot and humid.

Got my shirt and medal, and the family picked me up.

Took my ice bath, threw everything in the laundry, and I am ready for lunch!

Three other things I am happy about, no chaffing, 10 toenails, and I can walk down stairs normally without holding onto the handrail.

Robin B. from Massachusetts, went chugging by me around mile 14. I looked to my right, and saw the only other DR Storming the Castle hat on the course. She didn't see mine, so she must have been in a zone. I had to yell at her "Nice hat" before she looked over her shoulder and saw me. That was pretty funny! We exchanged high-fives, and that was the last I saw of her.

Hope everyone is having a good Sunday.

Aloha Oe.

Great job on the PR, Jeff. You run amazingly fast for eating that entire cake the night before.:rotfl2:

Great job Jeff!!! Glad you got a new PR! Way to go! :cool1:

I got my 8 miler in yesterday. I actually felt pretty good the entire time! It normally takes me a few miles to get settled in, but I started out feeling pretty descent. I don't know what it is, but it seems the last few miles, no matter what the distance is always a struggle for me. I know it's a mental thing...

My legs are feet are little sore today, but nothing major.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Stacie

I'm back again!
Stacie...nice job on that eight miles. We must be on the same schedule, well, I guess we would be since we're both doing the 1/2 in Jan. Duh! I think you're right, those last few miles are mental. Yesterday, we went out and drove the same direction that I ran and my DH said, "Wow, you ran this far?" And he's right.....it's a lonnngggg way for 2 legs to carry a person. No matter how much the struggle was, you did it!!!:cool1:

To all our north-eastern friends....it looks like you got a pretty big storm with lots of power outages. I hope everyone is safe and warm.

I ran my 8.5 (or maybe 9) miles yesterday. I didn't have a Garmin and I mapped it out on map my run. It was a pretty good run. We had an ice storm blow through last night, so all the kiddos are off school. My DH had originally taken today off so we could go Christmas shopping and out to lunch. Now we'll be sitting at home and trying to figure out how to wrap all the gifts.:confused3 I was looking forward to a date day, but it will be nice to be "iced-in" and share the day with the kids.
I lost the 1 lb that I gained and lost another one to boot!:cool1: :cool1: I'm in a whole new set of tens and it feels good.:cool1: :cool1:

Hi Lean Meaners!

Beth - Enjoy PR. It is great that you're getting your workouts in too! :thumbsup2 I've never been good at working out on vacation.

Jeff - Great job on your PR! :cool1: I never considered eating a cake as a good carb-loading option, but I may have to rethink that in the future...:lmao: Your girls are adorable!

Stacie - Great job on the 8 miler. I love it when I feel great the entire time!

Hi to Tracey, Maria, Amy, and everybody else! I hope you're all having a lean, mean week!

I fell off the healthy eating wagon over the weekend, but I'm back on today! I went to a physical therapist on Friday to discuss some knee pain I've been having. I was so happy to learn that the PT is a runner! She doesn't do marathons anymore, but she's done many in the past. She gave me some exercises to do to strengthen my IT band and she's confident that I'll be ok for race day. She was so great, giving me lots of race advice, and she also looked at my shoes to make sure they had the right support for me. I really hope that by doing the exercises she gave me and seeing her for a few weeks, I'll be ok for the marathon. I need a "keeping fingers crossed" smilie here.

Tracey - We must have been posting at the same time. Congrats on the weight loss - that is awesome! :thumbsup2 Enjoy the day with your family!

Hi Lean Meaners! Sorry I haven't been around lately - things have been pretty busy here. So busy that I didn't even realize Christmas is next week. Yikes! Time to get a move on and get my shopping done!

I weighed myself tonight after I got back from the gym. I'm up 1.1 pounds :( My eating hasn't been great in the past two weeks - I had a couple of parties and a real weakness for sweets. But I'm determined to get back on the wagon and lose the rest (or as much as I can) before the 1/2 in January!

My PT has me doing complex training/exercises which he says will help boost my metabolism. So of course I have to ask "Does that mean I can anything I want?" The answer is nope. Don't I wish

Jeff - Congrats on the PR! Love the picture of you and the cake :goodvibes

Julie - I've got my fingers crossed for you! My PT got me back up and running when I had a nasty piriformis muscle pull. Just remember to do your exercises (even if they're not all that comfortable).

Stacie - WTG on the 8 miler!

Beth - Sounds like you had an awesome workout!!

Tracy - Congrats on the weight loss!! I'll vote for staying in, I think it's more relaxing. :goodvibes

Have a great day/night everyone!!

Good Morning Everyone,

I just wanted to say hi. I know I haven't posted in a while - so busy, busy, busy this time of year. Eating is going well, running is not. The weather hasn't been cooperating. My daughters have been home from school for 3 days because of the ice storm knocked the power out at their school so I haven't made it outside to run. I should have gotten on the TM, but couldn't bring myself to do it. Our basement isn't finished, so to bring the 2 of them down there with me is just stressful. Man, that sounds like such a lame excuse. I'm back at work today and DH is home with the kids. I hope to get out at lunchtime despite the rain/sleet we are having right now. I really need to run.

Hope everyone is staying diligent with their healthy eating and their training.

Cindy

Cindy: I hear ya about the weather.......last year it was warm enough to run consistently outside until mid January.....now I have been stuck on the TM since Thanksgiving.....:guilty: :sad2: I miss my outside runs......

I am back (late last night) from Puerto Rico. It was a nice trip, but we were lucky to get a flight back since the roads (and runway) was icy. We didn't get home until after 12:00. The kidlets had to go to school this morning, so they were not real happy when I woke them up! :scared1: Kidlet #2 has a concert tonight, and they are practicing this AM at the high school. He couldn't miss it, b/c then he would not be able to participate tonight.

My workouts went really well on vacation, but eating did not. I let myself 'go' and ate to much......but, I am back at it this morning! It was a nice break, but then hard to get back to eating right. :headache:

Congrats to everyone on the PR's and weight loss!

Beth

Jeff: Congrats on the PR! You must have been super fast during the first part if you were able to walk the rest and still get a best time! :worship: :worship:

Beth: have fun in PR! Make sure you go to the Bacardi factory and get those free pina coladas!

Stacie: great job on the 8-miler!

Everybody else: Keep up the good work......I'll be seeing most of you soon....VERY soon...:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Hey Lean Mean Brigade!

I made a tactical error last night -- I went to dh's gym with him. It was hot, crowded, and noisy. Not a good environment for me. I am much happier as a solitary wogger. It was the longest three miles of my life -- ok, second longest next to the last 3 miles of the WDW Half last year. ::yes:: I won't be going there again, but I'm glad I found out it is definitely not for me.

Jeanne -- It's the last DSM of year tonight, I think there are still a few more for January, but I might be wrong. Better tune in! :happytv:

Beth -- I'm glad you made it back home and had a nice relaxing break! :thumbsup2 Just jump back in, you'll do fine!

Cindy -- This weather is insane and nasty for running! I'm glad you have power at home. We keep hearing the horror stories of north and west, thank goodness you were at least spared being cold and in the dark :grouphug:

Vicky -- The holidays have really snuck up on us! I have almost everything done, I have to try to finish what I can tomorrow night because we have two snow storms headed in Friday and Sunday.

Julie -- How is your knee? I hope you are able to run inside, 'cause it is yuck, yuck, yucky out there! :headache:

Tracey -- You have a great attitude about losing your date day. I was supposed to have a day out with my dad Friday, but since we are getting 6-12 inches, I guess we'll stay in. :cold: At least we can go out tomorrow evening and pick up supplies so I can bake and make candy while we're inside. My presents are almost all wrapped, but those pesky Christmas cards still need a letter...

Jeff -- It sounds like you had a great race! That cake looks far too yummy! I'll be thinking of you as I watch the snowflakes fall. ;)

Everyone have an awesome night!
Maria :cutie:

Hey Lean Meaners. Brrrrrrr, it's cold here and it seems that everybody (in the stores, schools, etc) is sick or at least they're coughing and sneezing all over the place. DS3 and I both have our colds back and it's a bummer because I need every ounce of energy I can get;) .

Julie...good news from the PT. I hope the exercises are helping.
Vicky...I think those little changes in weight are so normal for this time of the year. You'll get rid of that pesky 1.1 lb this week.
Cindy...Did you get out and run in the rain and sleet. Be careful. DS just put screws in the bottom of his old shoes so that he can run on the ice.:confused3
Beth...way to go getting right back on the healthy eating wagon. It can be so hard coming back from vacation and getting back into our good habits. It sounds like you had a wonderful time.
Jeanne....you're right, we'll see you very soon;) .
Maria....I'd love to see 6-12 inches of snow. Right now we just have a thin layer of ice and this little dusting of snow---it just looks kind of icky. I also think snowstorms are the best time to cook and bake. Hope you made something good. I'm right there with you on the Christmas cards---mine are usually out the day after Thanksgiving. I think training has taken away my card writing time.

I went downstairs on Tuesday to run on the TM. Upon starting it, it started to creak and then the running surface felt like it was slipping:scared1: ! This TM cannot go kaput this close to the 1/2. Luckily, DH is amazing, he took it apart and looked at the motor and figured out how to fix it! I love him:cloud9: ! So, I got my 6 miles in yesterday:cool1: ! The idea of running outside with the ice and cold (and my cold) was not an appealing one. I've got strength training today and a major grocery shopping trip on the schedule:rolleyes1 . Have a great day all and stay strong.
