Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Cindy: Wow...you're a great motivator! I love the idea about the sticky notes. I'm gonna write "Must have a photo-finish!" and put them everywhere.

Beth: Count me in for the challenge. (And, geez, do I really have to take a multi-vite? Yuck!) When do we start? BTW, I count a possible 5 extra points.....did you leave one out? And I guess I'm gonna have to get another scale. I think I bought mine with Green stamps 35 years ago! :rotfl2:

Just popping in to say the challenge sounds great, Beth! When do we start? I'll weigh in tomorrow for the official #. The water and vitamin thing seems tailor made for me (as well as the rest.)

Jeanne: I think the 5 points comes from the two we can earn for 1/2 hour exercise/day. "Must have photo-finish!" Yay! :yay:

Cindy: I'm so proud of you--for staying within points & for being aware of the very real pitfalls of celebrations. The exercise helped you keep your focus today, I'm sure.

As for me: Right now, I'm packing, cleaning, baking some goodies for my visit to D.C. (DOOD needs some homemade raspberry bars, I decided.) My train leaves at 5.30 a.m., so an early night for me. I'll try to check in again tonight, or if not tonight, than tomorrow late afternoon or evening. The train gets in at 1.30 p.m., so long trip. Interestingly, though, not that much longer than an affordable flight to D.C. (layovers) and much cheaper. I'm bringing along books and my challenge notebook for the trip. :goodvibes

I did get exercise in today, too, working on that string of WOs that Cindy has encouraged me to seek. :thumbsup2

I won't be back until after midnight Monday, so really Tuesday, so we'll see what that does with my schedule. I should be able to check in once or twice when I'm there (I hope). DOOD does have internet access, but there's SO much to see and do.

Jeanne: I think the 5 points comes from the two we can earn for 1/2 hour exercise/day.

If we get one point each for items 1, 2 and 3 that makes 3. Plus 2 points for item 4 brings it up to 5. :confused3

Deb: Have a great trip and a fun time with DOOD. Take the weekend off and don't worry about posting, pleeeeeze!

Julie: so glad the test for celiac came back negative. Were they able to come up with any other explanation?

The NYC marathon is 11/1......no trick or treating for me this year!

Hi Lean Meaners! Almost the end of another week :)

Beth - I like Friday as a weigh-in since I know I tend to eat a little more on the weekends. Are we starting tomorrow?

Cindy - Sounds like you've been getting in a lot of exercise! Were you able to avoid the cake? We occasionally get goodies at work from a meeting. I usually take one and cover it with a napkin so it looks like I have something. Some of the ladies at work aren't very understanding about diets so I usually just take something so I don't have to listen to them complain :)

Debra - My birthday is in October (6) Safe travels! I know a great place in Georgetown for ribs but that's probably not on your clean eating list (mine either) :upsidedow Are you going to the zoo? I loved going there when I was in DC a couple of years ago. I really just went to see the pandas but the other exhibits were really cool!

AFM - Worked out at the gym with my PT. Went heavier on some weights and more reps on others. Had to do the Spiderman crawl as part of my warm up since the gym was empty when I got there. :headache: Funny how a space can seem twice as long when you're doing a hard exercise.

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

Hi all! I would really love to join your BL challenge to help me stay motivated this summer. I just started a new eating plan and workout routine.

I will be sure to weigh in tomorrow.

I really love that you all are so supportive of each other!

Okay, The Biggest Loser starts today!!! Weigh in folks!

Jeanne: There is a 'floater' point each week that will change as we want it too (that makes the extra point)

Okay, points count for:
1) 64 oz water a day
2) multi-vit (only if you choose too Jeanne, you don't have to)
3) 25 grams fiber daily
4) 2 total points a day for 1/2 hour exercise (you can earn 1 per 15 min)
5) FLOATER point for the week: For not eating 2 hours before bed time

We will have a point winner each week if you choose to participate. I know it's a pain to keep track of things for the week, so you don't have to count points if you don't want to.

At the end of the week on Fridays, post your points and weight loss and I will keep track of it. Right now we have the following 'Losers'

Sarah
Vicky
Jeanne (for a picture-perfect challenge!)
Debra
Cindy

I weighed in at 167 today. I am hoping to lose 1 pound a week! :goodvibes

Let the challenge begin!!!!!

Beth

Ok, OK, I'm going to try taking a multi-vite (we have them in the house since hubby takes them) Or perhaps, I should just substitute my glucosamine DS tablet, which I am supposed to take daily, but never remember to! I can see the challenge is working already because I had previously decided to forego my walk today, but have now reconsidered just to get my 2 points!
About the weigh-in......oh no, the moment of truth! :scared1: Well, I guess I'm among friends so here goes: Put me down for 218 :scared: It was actually 220 this morning, but it was 218 the past few days and I have been extra good this week, so that's gotta be a fluctuation blip. I don't want to give myself an unfair advantage because the the only person I'll be cheating will be myself. We weigh ourselves only once a week, right? Now I need to create some sort of a spreadsheet to track my points, etc. Has anybody already made one up? I can tell you already, the point thingies are not going to be easy for me since I NEVER drink water either. But I am somewhat competitive and they are pretty much "gimmes", so I am certainly going to at least TRY to get the total point allotment every week. OK fellow Mean-Leaners, GAME ON!

/
Yay, I'm so excited! Weighed in and my goal for the six weeks is to lose 10 lbs. (Although I wouldn't mind more!)

Just had my first test. I wasn't planning on it by my brother called and invited me out for lunch and we went to Mellow Mushroom (a pizza joint). I looked at the menu ahead of time to decide what I was going to have and did well! I'm really excited because I usually have a harder time when eating out. I stayed on my food plan, no problem and the benefit is I feel full, not stuffed. :)

Great start folks!

Jeanne: You are among friends! You are a strong, brave soul.....and I will share with you that I weighed 231 when I started. So, you are at a much better starting point than I was. You can do this!

Yes, use your supplement in place of the multi-vit. It is something that will benefit you, that you will be better if you take it consistently. Same as the multi-vit. Same difference. Ask Nancy.....we are also competitive and it has helped us both with this challenge! And she only gained 2 pounds on vacation, so I know that her 'game' was still on! We've been neck and neck through this whole thing!!!!

Sarah: I am glad the challenge is already helpful to you! That's why I started this! We can motivate each other through the next 6 weeks!

I want to hear from the rest of you too! We stand united!

Beth

OK, so glad we've started this. I weighed in this morning at 139.4. I'd love to be at 130 by the end of 6 wks, but that may be too aggressive, so I'll take what I get. Did earn my pts for exercise today although I need to pay more attention to details because I thought it was 1 pt per 30 minutes, so I made sure I did an hour. That's OK, it'll help me in the long run.

Sarah: Welcome, I'm glad you could join us. Tell us a bit about yourself if you don't mind. Good job on making good choices at lunch time.

Jeanne: So, you're competitive? I'll be sure to keep an eye on you. Finish Line Photo!!

Beth: Great idea for the floating point this week. I will find it hard on many nights to even have my dinner 2 hrs before bed time not even to mention snacks. DS's last baseball game is this weekend so that will make it a bit easier to have an early dinner.

Vicky: I did avoid the cake at the baby shower. I got a few comments, but I just smiled. I'm glad I resisted because then I didn't have to feel guilty later last night when I had a delicious cupcake in belated celebration of my bday.

Debra: Hope you have safely arrived in DC. Did you get much accomplished on the train?

As for me: I ate well and enjoyed myself last night without being totally out of control. I walked 2 miles at lunchtime to bank some WW pts then when my friend called to say she'd be late I got in another mile waiting for her. The restaurant I chose was an all you could eat stir fry place. Maybe not the wisest choice, but it was delish. This morning I got right back on track counting pts and making good choices. I ran a 6+ mile LR (to get that 60 minutes I thought I needed), then once again the hungry horrors hit me this afternoon and I ended up eating far too many sweets. I did not get off to a good start with this BL challenge. I'll have to make up for it the rest of this week. I'll be glad when my son is done with school so we can do things to get me out of the house on Friday afternoons rather than waiting around for the bus to change this awful pattern.

Time to go get another glass of water.

Good luck everyone.
Cindy

Hi Guys!

Time is getting away from me as I get ready to leave for our vacation. Just working and then getting through my list at night seems to be taking all my time and energy. Of course I was out of the office most of the week, and when I was there I didn't have DIS time...

I am already in the WISH BL Challenge, so I'm just going to stick with that. It's confusing enough to track what I need to for that -- and it seems to be working ok for me. I came in #10 last week, and #8 the week before, so I have the hang of it.

Cindy -- You have been the queen of restraint lately! You are doing so well, I know with summer fruits and salads, you will get close to, if not achieve, your goal! :thumbsup2

Beth -- I know you are going to lead your participants to new weight loss heights (or lows)! :woohoo:

Vicky -- When I'm on the Spiderman ride at IOA next week, I'll think of you! :lmao: Seriously, that is a tough workout, but I know you kicked it!

Jeanne -- I started this year at almost where you are, and through fits and starts (mostly fits), I've finally made it to just over 200. You can see I've lost weight, so that was a huge motivator. I didn't quite reach my big milestone goal, but I will be totally on board with you for losing 5 lbs a month once I get back from vacation. The method I used for May really worked, so I'm going to stick with that and jump back in when I return. I promise, we can do this! :yay:

Sarah -- Hi! and Welcome to the Lean Mean Thread! Super awesome folks here, you will do great! :cheer2:

Debra -- I'm going to admit this -- I hate it when you struggle :headache: (yes, hate is a strong word), because I miss your posts and they are a huge source of encouragement for me! So, just stop it! ;) I hope you are having a wild and wonderful weekend with DOOD! I am going back to reading Beck when I get back, that's one of my tasks to get moving onward and downward again. :yay:

As I said before, the getting ready for vacation is a huge whirl, especially since we're now going in 5 days instead of August! So, my workouts are spotty, my eating includes white cheddar cheezits , and I am very discombobulated. Did I mention we are closing three programs at work (thankfully it's only 18 positions, it could be much worse), and I'm pretty certain two more large ones are about to follow? I feel I am secure, but it's a tense workplace to say the least.

So, I am counting on you guys to be here, going strong, when I return at the end of the month! I am going to need to jump back in and get to working! I am going to take my workout stuff and I will be using the hotel gym. We'll see how often, but I'm at least going to try. And I'm limiting myself to one treat per day (well, at least on day 1, that's another limit I expect to struggle with). I am going to use July to lose whatever I gain, 'cause I know there will be one.

I'm not sure how much more I'll get to post before we leave, so if I don't get to say it again -- you guys are the best! Huge motivators, and even though I haven't actually met some of you yet, I feel like we're all in this together (cue Zack Efron -- Hey, can't he have a cute Uncle Brad Pitt, 'cause that's just too much like robbing the cradle!) :grouphug:

Maria :upsidedow

Good morning everyone,

I just want to get on and post really quick this morning because it will probably be the last chance I get today. We have dance, soccer and baseball today then I am packing up the kids and heading to my Dad's in NH for the rest of the weekend. His bday is tomorrow so I know I will be faced with lots of temptations. I hope to get in plenty of exercise to off set some of it. I got out for a 10 mi bike ride this morning at 6, so I'm off to a good start.

Beth: should we keep track of our pts for the week then post them on Friday?

Maria: Have a GREAT time on your vacation. Enjoy yourself and we'll help get you back on track when you return.

Have a great weekend everyone.
Cindy

It’s really nice to meet all you ladies, I feel so welcomed and this is such a great supportive group!

I hope it’s ok, I’m just going to post my loss each week and not my beginning weight. Luckily for most of the points related things it’s stuff that I already do – drinking water, taking the multi vitamin, working out.

A little about me, hmm. Well I’m a native of Atlanta, have lived here pretty much all my life. I’m in my mid-20s and work for the American Cancer Society. I live with my roommate and my wonderful dog, Bailey. Someday I hope to get a job at Disney and move down to Orlando.  The past few months I had completely fallen off of any semblance of good eating habits and consequently gained weight so I knew it was time to get back in the swing of things!

My goal past this BL challenge is 23 lbs before my trip in October. I think that’s doable, just around 5 lbs/month so we’ll see how it works out.

Is there something going on in January that you all meet up for? Just noticed a few of you were talking about booking hotels.

Vicky – Wow great job on your weights and running! I’ve never been a runner, even though I’ve tried so I give major props to anyone who can go for considerable distances.

Cindy – Great idea on asking yourself “have my choices moved me closer or further away from my goal?” I think I will ask myself this daily! And wow, 6 miles! I’m starting low and going to work up to 4mi, but I’m doing more walking/jogging. Everyone slips up now and then so don’t beat yourself up about it, just get back on track today! Wow everyone’s going on vacation this week so I guess I’ll have to content myself with staying home.

Debra – It sounds like you’re doing great! Every day is a struggle, but I think we can do it for sure! I don’t know if this is possible or helpful, but I find not having junk food in my home really cuts down on my extraneous eating. That way if I want something I really have to weigh its worth since I’d have to get in the car and go out to get it. Nine times out of ten I decide not to! Have a great time on your trip, DC is a great place to visit.

Beth – Thanks so much for setting up this BL challenge! I will kind of keep track of my points, but I’m sure I will slip up here and there.

Jeanne – My scale is out of batteries it seems so I had to covertly go borrow my roommates yesterday. Hopefully I’ll be able to pick up the batteries I need this week (they’re a weird size).

Maria – I’m so sorry about your work situation, I know how that can effect you and your eating habits. Every since the economy spiraled they’re always talking about layoffs and it’s just added stress that we don’t need! Have a blast on your vacation!

Everyone have a wonderful weekend.

Hey folks! Seems to be going well!

Maria: I know what you mean.....I set this challenge up, still doing the one with Nancy, and I just started another with a friend at a local spa.....they want me to journal everything (including calories....ugh.....) I am not a good one to consistently journal. I've been at this so long, I know when I am on and when I am off without the food journal. Oh well, I'll try it for a few weeks!

Jeanne: How's it going?

Cindy: Yes, posting your points and weight loss on Friday's! I will keep track and post winners!

Sarah: Keep up the good work! And, I am happy to help! Oh, the Disney marathon and 1/2 marathon is in January and alot of us participate hence the ressie talk.

AFM: The week has gone by without house work being done! I was so busy all week, we were hardly home at all. Sunday will be an all day effort!

I have logged alot of miles this week. I might reach 40 miles again. I got 6 miles in today before baseball.....and I felt really good! I am in great running shape right now, but not so good with strength.....I am missing the gym alot. I can't wait till baseball is over!

Eating is going ok.....yesterday a little off because we were not home (again). To much eating outside of the house leads to problems for me.

We are going to a picnic today......I will try to contain myself!

Beth

Sneaking in here between the Nat'l Portrait Gallery and dinner, then a DC United game to say thanks for the support & BL challenge. (DOOD's napping, a luxury I'm skipping today.) I slept most of the train trip, so no Beck reading on the way here. But I have my cards. (I did do some lunges on the train, but the form was--as you might guess--less than stellar. It was really part of stretching, because it was an 8 hour trip.) Thanks to you all, and Beth for structuring this. :thumbsup2 Official weight here: 135.

The game/challenge has forced me into a long walk Friday night for my exercise points. Ran this morning--icky, icky--and we're walking to the soccer game. I'm carrying water because it's hot and humid, so I'm definitely getting my water. We'll see how I'm doing with the fiber when I track what I've eaten at home on Tuesday.

Oh, yeah, and I'm taking DOOD's vitamins because I forgot to bring mine. We share the same vitamin, so it's no big deal except he'll run out before he comes home. But what's more important, his health or my challenge? :confused3 :rotfl2: I guess we all know the answer to that one.

Welcome to Sarah. We're a merry group! So good to see you here and learn about you. :thumbsup2 You're already doing a great job with the food choices and eating out with a plan in hand. Yay!

Maria, you can share your BL results from the other group, though. You know I love your posts. Have a great time on vacation, as if you could have anything else, and get those workouts in. I do hope you come back to a less tense workplace, too.

Jeanne, you competitive? :rotfl2: I'm stealing DOOD's glucasomine while I'm here, too. No spreadsheet for me. Such things are not my friends. And you're definitely among friends; as you know, I've been 40 pounds more than I currently weigh. No pressure to post, either, just accountability measures. :goodvibes

Vicky, I look forward to some birthday date hints come October. Maybe the zoo on Monday. Seeing Away We Go in a preview next Wed. (And I don't even wanna see it, but it's free.) Spiderman, Spiderman, if anyone can do it, Vicky Can. :rolleyes1 (which is really a whistling tune for this post)

Cindy, you've been doing so great with the social occasions. Extra exercise, controlled eating, conscious decisions. A regular schedule will help even more, as does the water! And don't you hate the comments when you refuse goodies? (Ugh, what do you say? I just want to be snarky. :confused3) Love to hear the successes! Enjoy your Dad's Bday! :yay:

Beth: Did you hit your 40 miles? When I get back, I need to start hitting the gym, too. I've been off the strength/Pilates bandwagon, and for no good reason. Running shape is good, but not the same thing. My body is "mushier" in places than I would like it to be. (Or than it was, at least in my faulty memory. :lmao:)

Hi everyone! I tried to get on to the boards last night but they were down. I was running late yesterday morning so I didn't get a chance to weigh-in until after work. So I guess I'll just keep weighing in at time (I'm not a morning person anyway so it works out). My starting weight is 142.2 lbs

Debra - Glad you made it to DC safely! I've never taken the train before - probably because I take the subway 5 days/week. Actually there aren't many places to go to by train from Toronto except for Montreal. I thought about taking the train to NYC but someone told me that it was a 24 hour trip! Yikes! Let us know how you like the Away We Go. I haven't seen many films by Sam Mendes that I like.

Sarah - :welcome: When in October are you going to WDW? I'll be there the first 10 days or so. A lot of us do the 1/2 marathon, marathon or Goofy races in January. There is a WISH meet at Pop Century and a dessert party after the marathon (Sunday night). Good job staying on plan while eating out! :thumbsup2 I like the idea of checking out the menu beforehand.

Cindy - WTG on avoiding the baby shower cake. I'm like Debra, I need to think of a snappy comeback to the comments. Have fun at your Dad's this weekend and wish him a happy birthday from us!

Maria - Sorry to hear about the layoffs at work :( We had a bunch of jobs moved to India and I know there are some layoffs coming in September before my company's year end. It's pretty stressful but I decided to use it as an opportunity to see what else is out there. Just in case ... Have fun on your trip :)

Jeanne - I keep two 500 ml water bottles on my desk at work so I'll remember to drink them. Someone else I know has a dispenser on her desk that looks like a water cooler and holds about 8 glasses of water.

AFM - I did my 5K race this morning. It was held at the airport on a closed runway. They had a couple planes parked there with the flight crews cheering us on and used a jet to start the race off - that was loud! I also thought it was neat watching the planes land and take off. My goal was to finish in under 30 minutes. I had a stitch that kicked at the 2.5 m mark. What timing! I ended up walking for a little bit but it never did go away. I managed to squeak in and finish at 29:59. :upsidedow I guess it's somewhat of a technicality but it's better than my previous 5K which was 33:02.

That's all for me - Have a fantastic weekend everyone! :wave2:

Hey Lean Meaners!

I am officially recommitting to posting here at least every few days. LTO recently, nothing bad, just busy busy busy. I want in on the challenge, what do I need to do? And here is a little race report about my 5k on friday night. All you can drink microbrews at the finish. I loved it!

Hey all,

Race went well considering the freaking temperature was 95 in the sun. Finished in 37 minutes, which is my worst time since last summer, but I can't be too mad about it. I am just used to seeing my time in the 33's for a 5k. I talked to some super nice ladies before the race, they wanted to know where I got my bondi band. I also talked to a few people who were running their first race. Got lots of comments on my WISH shirt. They had so much beer. All microbrews and all you could drink. It wasnt advertised as all you can drink so I was expecting the standard free drink ticket or 2 for a craptastic beer. I had several beers I had never tried before!
Here is a pic post race with my BEER! I was SO SO hot and sweaty and gross.

And one of me attempting a sprint to the finish.

Little D fell asleep shortly after watching me finish. It was the 2nd no nap day in a row.

Hello all! I'll post a longer message later, but I was wondering if there was a 5K in January? I don't think there's any way I could do a half marathon so just wanted to ask.

Amy - Congrats on your 5K! I don't think I would have gone much faster in that heat. Btw, your little one looks so cute napping :goodvibes

Hello all! I'll post a longer message later, but I was wondering if there was a 5K in January? I don't think there's any way I could do a half marathon so just wanted to ask.

Sarah - There's a 5K on marathon weekend. I think it's held on Friday morning. This link should have more information.
