Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Hey all! Sorry so late in posting......spent the last 12 hoursCLEANING my house. We all call it the "Sue clean" for the summer. My sister comes to my house in the summer to watch my kids.......and she is a clean freak. My house has been hurting since I was working full time.....not only messy, but dirty too. UGH......I did today, what I wanted to do all last week. I just didn't have any time at all during the week, so it came down today. I had to deep clean (several times) three different rooms, clean up a total mess, vaccum, mop, dust, and my fine children needed fed! Darn kids......I myself didn't eat the entire day.....just focused on the 'clean'. And on top of it all I needed to do the lawn too! Ugh......I am exhausted.

I did get my water in....totally needed it to supplement the sweat factor. The only thing I didn't get was my fiber today.....missed by 10. I did eat toast this am with my high fiber bread, and got in a banana.

Amy: Jump in with the challenge. Just get a starting weight and read the previous posts with the 'rules' (nothing hard core!)

For those who post their starting weight, I will try to post % of weight loss each week too. Weight and points should be reported on Friday's.

I am back to work (the work that pays me!) I will be glad to get back to my normal schedule. My boys will be playing baseball every day of the week to make up for all the rain-outs. That includes the weekends too....ugh......

I got 5 miles in on the TM tonight.....trudging miles, but miles non-the-less. I am glad I could get it done, even though I was so tired.

Debra: I only got 35 miles this week, but still OK in my book. I am glad you got a post in, and glad you got to DC ok. I would love to see the lunging on the train! That's too funny!

Well, I am hoping to go to bed soon......I won't like the alarm tomorrow!

Beth

I'll just pretend that I'm new to the board since I've been away for so long, but I miss the leaner meaners!

I've been super stupid busy between work, kids, and Ironman training...it really just takes over your life.

Training is up to between 13 and 18 hours a week, with 3 months to go to Madison!

As far as results, while I'm not trying to lose weight, the second number on the scale was a zero today...almost at my high school playing weight, and that was 25 plus years ago.

Hope all is great with each and every meaner, and I promise to work at being more consistent about checking in with the group...I miss you guys!

Mike

Amy: congrats on your race! Now that sounds like an event I would LOVE to do. Heck, I might even be able to talk Nancy out of retirement for that one! :drinking1:drinking1

Sarah: :welcome:

Maria: enjoy your vacation! Here's a little bit of vacation diet advice: It's your vacation so have what you want.....but ONLY what you want. Sometimes we're bombarded with so many food choices, we end up eating junk just because it's there. While on vacation, I try to never deprive myself of something I really want and then just say no to all the other stuff. For example, everyone in my family loves ice cream but I particularly don't. In the past, I would have it if they were having it just "because". Now I'll decline the ice cream that everyone else is eating and later on get the popcorn I REALLY want.

The challenge seems to be going pretty well for me. It's amazing what a little motivation will do.:woohoo: The one area I am really struggling with is the 25 grams of fiber. I have only been able to achieve that once. FiberOne yogurt has 5 grams per container and their bars have 9, but I will not eat more than one of each per day. That leaves me about 10 grams short since I do not know the fiber content of food that doesn't come in a box! I'm trying to eat lots of salads and fruit, but I checked online and most fruits and veggies really don't have that much. Any suggestions for getting the fiber in without taking in too many excess calories?

Good Monday Night, Meaners!

I'm sitting here with a green mineral mask on my face. DS just accused me of being an Orion woman. Hey, if I can have Spock instead of Kirk...:rolleyes1

I just put my outfits together. I need to do more laundry so I can finish that process. I have 4 outfits I rotate to run in, and of course I need 1 a day, so it's making the packing a bit of a challenge. Yep, I said one a day. For the last 5 days before we go, I'm on a big push. My goal is 1 lb per day, and so far I'm 2/2. Tomorrow will be the big test. I think I should have been more active today, and I probably had too much fro yo for dessert ::yes:: I'm drinking (water and tea) like there's no tomorrow.

Jeanne -- Excellent vacation advice! My problem is I tend to really want everything -- I guess I'll have to stick to the things that I really want the most! :lmao:

Mike -- So glad to see you! For awhile I think we lost all our guys. Now we've had you and Chris check in, and I believe I remember a brief Panda moment. We've missed you, too! :flower3:

Beth -- You are a cleaning machine! :woohoo: So, when should I expect you because my house could totally use a "Sue Clean"!

Sarah -- You'd be surprised at who can complete a Half marathon with training. Trust me, I think people think I'm making it up when I say I've done 2! The required pace is 16 min miles, which is a good walking clip, but you will never find a more supportive race. I believe you said you were going to do C25K? See how you like the 5K, you may find a new hobby like I did! :cool1:

AmyK -- You look very happy! Gotta love the bondibands, I'm a huge fan! :goodvibes

Vicky -- I am so envious you did a 5K on an airport runway. That just sounds incredibly fun! :cheer2:

Debra -- Ok, I'll share my losses/gains/maintains, but honestly, I can't track one more thing. :sad2: But I'm here to cheer everyone on, whatever you are doing, it's great to support each other! :grouphug:

Cindy -- How was the bday w/dad? You have been doing so well in social situations lately, I bet you were fine with this, too! :)

Shout outs to Wendy, Nancy, Julie, and everyone else we are missing!

I'd better call it a DISing night and start the winddown. Hopefully I'll get to chat again tomorrow...

Maria :upsidedow

Good Morning Lean Meaners,

This weekend at my Dad’s was not good eating-wise. There are always healthy choices there, plus I brought plenty of healthy options with me, but I still always reach for the sweets when I’m up there. I feel really bad about it especially because so many of you thought I’d do well, I feel like I let all of you down too. I’d like to say I got back on track yesterday, but I still had the sweet cravings and gave in to them yesterday. Today I plan to be back on track. I wrote down my menu for the day and don’t plan on straying from that. I did get a lot of exercise in yesterday both swimming and running so that should combat a few of the calories.

Maria: Did I understand you in that you are trying to lose 1 lb per day until you leave for vaca? Good luck to you. Have a great time on your trip.

Jeanne: Glad you are doing well with the challenge. My biggest fiber options are breakfast cereal. I eat Trader Joe’s high fiber cereal which is a lot like Fiber One cereal without the Splenda. It has 9 g of fiber per serving. I have also recently tried Vitatops which have 6 g of fiber and only 100 calories (Thanks to Maria’s suggestion). Here’s a website of a list of fiber content of some high fiber foods that don’t come in boxes.
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/high-fiber-foods/NU00582

Mike: Glad you stopped by. I am amazed that you can find 13 to 18 hrs a week for training. I look forward to that day ~15 yrs from now when my kids are away at college and I’m retired. I just hope I’m not too tired to do it by then. I know that training for the sprint tri I am doing in July is wearing me out plenty. Good job at getting almost down to your playing weight.

Beth: Great job with all the cleaning, but you need to eat too!! Doesn’t it feel so good to have a nice clean house? Good luck getting back to work and with all those baseball games this week. We are done with the games, just the end of the season party on Friday.

Amy: Good job on your race. It sounds like it’s just a perfect match for you. I’m not much of a beer drinker, so it’d be wasted on me. Love the picture of your DD all sacked out. Giving up the naps already? I tried to keep them as long as I could, but none of my kids were with me on that. I’m envious that you can wear the Bondi band. It looks so good on you. It won’t seem to stay on my head. I’ll have to try it pulled a little more forward like yours is.

Vicky: I did have a fun time at my Dad’s. I don’t get to hang out with my family very often, so I do enjoy it when I get the chance. Great job finishing under 30 minutes despite having to walk with the stitch. That’s great. And it’s 3 minutes faster than your previous 5K, yea!!!

Debra: I hope you are enjoying DC. How was the soccer game? 8 hrs on the train is a long ride.

Sarah: I think your goal of 5 lbs/mo sounds reasonable. Slow and steady will get you there.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Good morning Lean Meaners! Nice to see you all checking in!!

Jeanne: I like using lo carb wraps for the fiber. You can get 11 to 14 grams of fiber for one wrap. They are only about 100 calories and it makes a nice sandwich. Less calories, more fiber than a piece of bread. You can also look into the fiber supplements for your water, for no calories.

Amy: If you are joining our BL challenge, you will need a starting weight (you don't have to post it unless you want to). Points and weights will be posted on Fridays.

Cindy: Don't feel bad......we all have been there and continue to go there! It's difficult for me when my schedule changes, or get out of my routine. I just try to focus on recovery when I stray. Getting back to it, is the most important thing. If I continue with the same 'vacation/break' mentality.....it leads to pounds gained! We are all proud of you!

Maria: Yes, a clean house is nice.....but never lasts long when there are two kids around! They are a demolition team! I have been trying to 'police' the area before they get up in the morning....but I don't have a lot of time for it since I am doing 60 min on the TM too! I am always late for work anymore......to many morning chores! I also hear ya with the too many things to track thing......it's driving me crazy! I have to write everything down for the spa weight loss thing.....I am not good, or consistent with a food journal. :scared1:

Mike: I hope you stop by more often!

AFM: Baseball went until 8:45 last night......so much for the 2 hour rule. The umps never heard that we only play for 2 hours on a week night....they had us play for the full 7 innings even though we were ahead by 16 runs.....ugh. I ate a wrap during the game, so I didn't have to eat dinner so late. Who wants to eat at 9:30 at night????? That would be my family......I was cooking steak fatiatas at 9:30......I just brought mine for lunch!

I am getting up at 5:30 every morning during the baseball blitz to run on my TM. I am getting 5 miles in ......... and the only way to get that done is early. I can't wait until baseball is over!!!! (((((have I said that before????))))

Beth

Hey Lean Meaners,

Beth: Put my starting weight at 180.5 . I read back and caught up on the points stuff so I am good to go!

Cindy: Definitely try wearing the bondiband a little lower. It definitely stays in place better and really really helps to keep the sweat out of my eyes!!

Maria: Enjoy Vacation!!!

Delena and I are off to jog to the post office before it gets too hot!!

Hey Lean Meaners! Just checking in quickly ...

Beth - That's a long game ... good thing you brought that wrap with you :) I wanted to ask you ... What's a good site to look up fibre content of foods? I always try for higher fibre foods but am never sure of the exact amount I'm eating.

Cindy - I'm glad your family gathering has healthy options :) My extended family doesn't really do the healthy stuff. Not sure why. Though when they're over at my parents' house they're really quick to gobble down the diet soda, salad and fruit plate. Go figure. I don't think you should feel bad - it was a birthday celebration. Unless you ate the entire birthday cake ... just kidding! That's something I would do :rotfl:

Debra - How's DC? Are you enjoying time with DOOD?

Jeanne - I like your advice of eating what you want but only what you want. There have been too many times that I just eat everything just because I'm on vacation.

Maria - When do you leave on vacation?

AFM - I tried doing deadlifts at the gym with my PT last night for the first time. The funny thing about that exercise is that you don't feel tired or muscle fatigue while doing it ... that is until you try other weight lifting exercises after. :upsidedow I will try and get in a 3 mile run after work.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi all!

Well, I think I’ve been doing pretty well I have stuck to my workouts and just upped the intensity yesterday. I also picked up some of those wrist weights, so I’m going to try those out and see how I do. Anyone have any experience with them? I’m not a huge fan of my arms so I’m hoping it will help tone them up faster so I don’t feel so icky in my summer shirts.

Eating wise I think I’m doing well, but I think I’ve eaten out a little too much. I’ve stuck to my eating plan, having salad instead of fries, grilled chicken and whatnot but I feel like the food you get out just isn’t as healthy as what you have at home. That could just be me trying to psych myself out though, lol. The hardest part of this is always the mental for me.

Beth - You amaze me with your 35-40 miles a week, I am far from that but maybe will build up to that at some point. I cleaned my apartment on Sunday and that’s definitely a workout in and of itself, so I feel you. Afterward I collapsed onto my bed and didn’t move for a full 45 minutes. It feels great to get that stuff done though, doesn’t it?

Debra – What is the Beck book? Is it a diet or workout plan? Also, I would definitely snag someone else’s vitamins if I had to! Let me know how “Away We Go” is, I’m interested in it, but can’t tell if it would move really slow and I’d get antsy.

Vicky – I am NOT a morning person either. If you talk to me within 30 minutes of me waking up, you’re lucky to get a grunt and an ugly look. I’ll be in Disney October 3-7, so I think our trips overlap! We’re doing a non-hopper ticket, but if any of our park days line up we should grab a meal or catch a ride together. Congrats on your 5K! After looking at the site, I really want to come do the 5K in January but so far have been unsuccessful finding a buddy who is interested in coming with me. I’ll keep on the lookout though, maybe someone will surprise me!

Amy – Love your pics with the beer in hand! I have to say if I’d woken up that day and the weather called for 95 I don’t know if I would have had the fortitude to go. Although heat isn’t nearly as bad as humidity for me, but whew. Impressive. Where do you all get your W.I.S.H. shirts?

Mike – Wow, congrats on your dedication to the Ironman! You are inspiring.

Jeanne – Love the vacation eating advice, I will definitely employ that for my upcoming Disney trip. A lot of time I would do the same thing, just grab something because someone else was eating and I didn’t even want it or wasn’t hungry. There are a few favorites I don’t want to miss, but I will skip over the other options.

Maria – I think you’ll have to fight me for Spock. ;) How are you managing to lose 1lb/day? That’s incredible and I’d really love to know your secret. I think I might like completing the races once I got into it so I’m really going to try and make the Jan one or try to find one around here a friend would do with me.

Cindy – Something that’s been really helpful for me is having food index cards. I bought a colored pack of index cards and have a different color for each food group – bread, meat, fruit, milk, veggie. Depending on your eating plan, put out all your cards in the morning and as you eat something, put it away. When you’re out of cards you’re done eating for the day. I put portions on the back of my cards as well to help me out when preparing food. If you cut the index cards in half they are easily portable to take out with you in your purse or wallet. I have the hardest time with headbands as well! I have to bobby pin them to my head if I want the look. I’m envious of people who can get them to stay on.

I hope everyone is having a good week!

Good Evening, My Lean Mean Buddies!

I get to type while dh grills steak, then it's a quick dinner, more packing, then off to the land of nod so I can make my 4:30 wake up call...I know, we are all crazy-busy, aren't we?!

Sarah -- I'm losing 1 lb per day (I'm 3/3 as of today!), by using a short-term, time-limited strategy. I'm running 4 mi every day, and eating only my WW points, no extras at all. I'm also making sure the points I eat are fruit, protein, and whole grains (plus plenty of 0 pt veggies). I'm also drinking only water and tea like I'm lost in the desert. I know I just have 5 days, so I can do that. This is not something I could sustain for the long term. My body is crying out for a rest day, but I know I'm resting the first 3 days of vacation, so I'm going to push it just this far. :thumbsup2

Vicky -- We leave on Thursday, and I can't wait! I so wanted to check out at work today, but of course we had a crisis du jour and I couldn't. Hopefully tomorrow will not be too stressful. :goodvibes

AmyK -- I also wear my bondiband lower. It really helps with the sweat. ::yes::

Beth -- So, is baseball season over yet? :rolleyes1 Hang in there, you are a Super Mom!

Cindy -- Yep, I'm going for 1lb per day (including Thursday). This is not something I could sustain at all, but I'm forcing myself to do it because I am determined to fit better in my clothes, and it is definitely working! :yay:
And you could never let us down :grouphug: You always have just the right positive comment when I need it!

Debra -- Where art thou? C'mon you know you want to post! I know you have a comment about Bret Michaels and the Tony's!:rotfl2: Unskinny Bop...

Oh, speaking of LA hair bands, Warrant is playing at the Hard Rock Velvet Session while we are at Universal. I don't think we'll be going, but we may end up at the Natasha Bedingfield concert at the Studios, depending on how much ds begs...

DS's ipod nano bit the dust just two weeks ago, so I ordered him a new one and loaded his music on this afternoon. He's going to be very surprised when I hand it to him on the airplane. He told us he knew we couldn't afford to buy a new one and also go on vacation. Of course, this is the same kid who told us he estimates we have half of a half million dollars in the bank. I love how kids think! :rotfl: (I just wish he was right!)

I know everyone is working hard for that weigh in! It's coming....:lmao:

Maria :upsidedow

So we have several people in for a Biggest Loser Cyber competition...... I can set up some ideas, if you all want to tell me what you think of them.

The weigh in will be once a week. Nancy and I decided on Friday, since a good week of eating right lent itself to a good weigh in on Friday. I would be willing for any day of the week.

We also count points each day. You can accumulate 6 points a day. The points are awarded for the following:

1) Drink 64 oz of water a day.
2) Take a mulit-vitamen.
3) Get 25 g of fiber a day
4) 1 point for 15 minutes of exercise (You may earn 2 points a day 30
min of exercise each day)

We then have a floater point each week that changes (such as dairy intake, fruits/veggies, etc) If you are having trouble with a certain thing, we will make it a point thing.

We don't need to post our weight per se, but just our weight loss each week. I will include my weight just for accountability sake, but you all don't have to do that.

We can keep count of point winners each week, weight loss winners each week, and the at the end of the competition the point leader and weight loss winner.

We can include a exercise challenge each week for bonus points if you want to.

How about a six week challenge to start, and if we like it, we can do another one?

Let me know what you think.

Beth

DANG!!! Have I already missed out? I'll go weigh right now... <walking to scale and walking back> -- I weigh 235.2, which is a little inflated because I just ate supper. (That means it's going to look like I lost more weight than I really have because I always weigh more at night.) DANG!!!

See, I should be reading the boards every day or I miss out on stuff. :rolleyes1 Now, who can I blame that on -- Oh, that would be ME!!! ;)

So I'd best be turning over a new leaf... For sure I'll see you on Friday.

EDIT: Let's make my starting weight 232.6 -- what I weighed this morning. That's more accurate than using my after-supper weight (because my weight fluctuates pretty wildly during the day).

Wendy: Welcome to the challenge!

Beth: Thanks for suggesting the wraps....I know exactly the ones you mean and I like them! They are so good with some lean turkey, sprouts, tomato and a slice of avocado (yum!). Now that I know they are a good source of fiber I'll be having a wrap for lunch every day.

Cindy: Thanks for the fiber chart.....I just printed it up and it is way better than the one that I had previously found. I also have to thank you again for the advice you gave me last week. The thing you said about looking at our choices and determining if they bring us closer to or further away from our goals really stuck with me. Now, before I put even the tiniest morsel in my mouth, I ask myself if it's gonna help me succeed at the marathon or hinder me. So far, so good. The healthy eating has been quite easy and I'm pretty sure I'll have a loss this week.

Maria: Way to go on the pound a day! And just in case I don't make it over here tomorrow, have a great vacation!

Oh, and for anyone looking for easy fiber -- the Fiber One Oats and Peanut Butter bars pack a hefty 9 grams in one chewy delicious bar. After my DH's bout of diverticulitis, we used them to help increase his fiber consumption. The only problem I have with fiber is its rather unladylike gastric side effects. <sigh> It's always something.

Wendy: Your on the books! Welcome to the BL challenge! The points for the week and your weight loss should be posted on Friday's (or saturday if you want) For those who posted their weights, I will also factor in % of weight loss too. We will have a point winner and weight loss winner each week.

The 'side effects' of the increased fiber consumption does get better once your body gets used to it. My dh isn't consistent in his fiber though, and he has the same issues! :scared1: I don't anymore.....I have been taking in 25 g of fiber for awhile now, and my body has adjusted fine......just hang in there!

Jeanne: I love the wraps too! I have been eating one at the evening baseball games, and it has been filling me up that I don't need to eat dinner with the family (really too late to eat anyway). I pack one for the road and I am good to go!

Maria: Have a great time on vacay!!!! We will be thinking of you! :guilty:

Sarah: Sounds like you have had a good start to the challenge!!! Good job!

AFM: Another 2 games down last night.....only 5 more to go this week.....ugh. I have gotten up every day this week for 60 min/ 5miles in the early am. I am tired right now! :sad2: Usually the run in the morning gives me more energy in the day, but I am still tired from the marathon cleaning session I guess.

I have kept to a good eating plan this week.....the weight loss spa thing will charge a dollar for each pound gained......so I am not gaining weight this week! It's actually a good motivator....... The ladies running that weight loss thing don't really know much though......they instructed me that I could only eat 1200 cal/day. With my workout schedule, 1200 calories isn't near enough for me.....I would die! So, I pretty much told them that that wasn't happening. They looked confused......like they don't get that people who exercise need additional calories so they can lose weight and not go into a starvation mode. :sad2: Apparently they never heard that! WTH????? I am not thinking highly of their 'leadership' at this point. But, I don't really need that anyway.....just continuing to 'do my thing' anyway!

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Beth

Hey Lean Meaners! Just a quick fly-by for me this morning...

I did my 3 miler last night but went a bit slower after feeling a little tickle in my lower back. I think it's from the deadlifts in the gym on Monday night. My PT did warn me that I might feel a little fatigued or sore afterward.

This morning, I put on a skirt that I had bought a couple of weeks ago and it feels little loose. So I guess it's going back to the store tonight. That was a good feeling! Unfortunately, it left me scrambling a little bit because a lot of my stuff was still in the laundry and hadn't been ironed yet. Arrgh!

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning Lean Mean Brigade!

It's my last day at work, and I couldn't be less focused ;) I'm really here as a courtesy today, it's extra hard because it's a holiday for dh (Bunker Hill Day), and it's ds's last day of school, which ends at 10:30 am! :confused3

I'm going to force myself to do a bit of paperwork, but I'm hoping I can just intersperse it between my posts...:rolleyes1

I'm 4/4 on the weight loss. I wasn't going to run tomorrow, but now I feel like I have to. I am .7 away from the goal I set before leaving, so I really want to make it! Then it won't be so far when I have to lose the 5 lbs I will inevitably gain...but I don't think it's really inevitable. I'm packing the workout clothes, I plan to follow Jeanne's diet advice, I think with some luck I can keep the gain to a minimum. :thumbsup2

Beth -- Wow! You are brave to do a weight loss program that charges you for gains! I think that would make me crazy -- plus, I agree, clearly they are unfamiliar with the calorie usage associated with exercise ::yes::

Vicky -- It is such a great feeling to have your clothes loosen! :yay:

Wendy and Jeanne -- Great to see you guys! :grouphug:

Gotta run to a forgotten meeting...:headache:

Maria :upsidedow

Good Morning Lean Meaners,

Maria: Awesome job on your pound per day. Keep at it, you’re almost done with it. I can’t believe your son is getting out at 10:30. Almost not worth opening the school for that short time. We still have 1 more week of school because of all the snow days this year. Have a terrific vacation!!!!

Vicky: Yea for loose skirts. It is a bummer you have to return it, but what better reason? Now you have an excuse to shop some more. Hope the back is feeling better. I didn’t eat the whole cake, but I certainly had my share. The thing is that it was only OK, not truly delicious.

Beth: 1200 calories? Are you kidding. Even if you just sat around on the couch I think you’d need more than that. I’m glad you are doing what you know is wise and ignoring the mis-information. I’m glad to hear that my body will adjust to the extra fiber at some point. How about the extra water? Will I ever stop having to make 10 trips to the bathroom each day? At work they are doing construction on the restrooms near me so I have to walk up past the security guards every hour. They must be wondering about me.

Wendy: I do love those fiber bars. I limit myself to 1 a day just for those reasons you mentioned. I’m glad you’ve joined our challenge.

Jeanne: I’m glad that something I said has stuck with you. That’s the reason I love this thread because there’s always something someone says that you can use. I need to use that line myself a little more.

Sarah: Good job on upping the intensity of your workout. That’s the quickest way to see improvements. I love your index card idea. I’m a very visual person, so I can see how that would help me.

Amy: Hope you had a cool run to the post office.

I am planning on a lunchtime run today. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous, so I am looking forward to that. I ate well yesterday and so far today. I was too tired this morning so I skipped my DVD, but I really think I needed the extra sleep. I went to bed at 9 last night (would have been earlier, but I had to wait 2 hrs after eating), but didn’t sleep well so the 4:30 alarm was reset to 5.

Has anyone switched hotels at WDW part way thru your stay? I’d like to stay at the Poly during marathon weekend to make it easy for my family to get out to watch the races, but I’m having a hard time with the cost of that for the entire week of our stay. I was thinking of switching to POR after the weekend to save money, but I’m afraid it will feel too much like a downgrade. Any thoughts?

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Ok I'm back since it's pretty quiet here ... shh!!

Cindy - I've always done split stays and found they worked out well. Actually in January, I'll be at Pop and then moving to the Poly. It's for the same reason - finances. I think your family should be okay as long as they don't have the same expectations for both hotels. But who knows? Maybe Disney will release a code or package and you'll be to stay the entire time at the Poly!

Maria - WTG on the 1 pound/day loss! That's amazing!! Have a great trip :)

Beth - I like the idea of paying when you gain weight. It's something I might try with DF since he trying to lose weight as well. And I have to agree with Cindy that 1,200 is just not enough for someone who's as active as yourself.

Sarah - There will be a lot of WISH'ers in January so there would always be somebody around :) Just keep an eye out for the bright green/yellow shirts! We can definitely meet up in October. That would be fun!! I haven't really planned anything yet since I'm waiting for the park hours to be released.

Hello Lean Meaners! Had a great time at D.C., did lots of things (The Mall, a D.C. United game, Artomatic, the National Archives, and research) but came back to more work to do. (Lots of revising & editing.) I'm just catching up now, and still have to figure out the eating parts of the BL challenge from when I was away. :goodvibes I'm thinking I might be off on the fiber for a couple of days.

Vicky: I didn't make it to Away We Go. I guess I wasn't that invested in seeing a Mendes flick, not since it's raining & lightning right now and I'm behind on work. Not even for free. (So we're soul sisters.) Congratulations on your 5K--great time, and what a cool place for a race. And I'm so impressed with the deadlifts. Ugh (and a "manly" grunt, too). And WTG with the looser skirt. How very motivating! :thumbsup2

AmyK: Great to see you back here, and to see pictures too. You're looking great, speaking of the word, and I was delighted to see the beer in your hand. :upsidedow Gotta love the microbrews. (Well, *I* don't, but I appreciate their worth nonethless.) Miss D is getting SO big!

Sarah: Oh, please, please, please, do the 5K. I'll be doing it, too. :yay: (And the Goofy, but let's not talk about my sanity. :rolleyes1) The Beck Diet Solution is a book recommended by Maria, and Cindy, too. It's a behavioral modification program and works with any diet. Asks you to look at why you're engaging in certain behavior. I'm not much of a thinker myself, but it's been good for me and I know I need to do it. (I don't like to question the behavior because it makes me feel "icky." :rotfl:) I like the idea of the cards, btw. Almost makes eating a game. Bring on the poker chips! :thumbsup2

Beth: I remember the "Sue clean." Sometimes I think I need a Sue in my life, but after reading about the 12 hours I'm sure glad I don't have one. :rotfl2: I, too, think 35 miles is just fine for a week. And exhausting. :worship: I cannot believe how much time you have to slot in for baseball. I have to say that, as a kid, I never paid attention to it. (Didn't play, watched my brother.) As an adult, it would drive me crazy--so kudos for you on being a great mom.

And it always concerns me when people don't have the same basic knowledge about nutrition that I do (because I don't consider myself all the knowledeable). 1200 calories on your mileage? You'd gnaw someone's leg off after a week. That is, if you had the energy to chase them down. :lmao:

Mike: Congratulations on the scale, fitting in all that training, and on just being you. Great news all the way around. (Pssst, I miss seeing here, but understand about the busy, busy, busy.)

Jeanne: About fiber: oatmeal for breakfast, whole fruits instead of juices (put fruit in your oatmeal), sandwich wraps (Beth suggested), lots o' veggies, and beans. And I love the suggestion about eating what you REALLY want, instead of defaulting to the social aspect of eating. Good advice for vacation & in general. :flower3:

Maria: You're doing great with your short-term intense weight loss. 4/4 lbs. Wowsa! :woohoo: No pressure on posting anything with gains and losses, I just meant we're interested in your progress (challenges/successes) no matter what. About Brett Michaels--I'd missed the whole thing somehow. :confused3 :rotfl2: And you, too, get a cool mom award for the iPod.

Cindy: Thanks for the fiber chart. Very useful. I know what you mean about visiting the parents and plans going awry. I turn into an 8yo when I visit my parents. A sulky one at that. :lmao: But you didn't let any of us down. We're all on a journey to be healthier and happier, and to support one another. :yay: Oh and I loved the soccer game--such fun--thanks for asking. I dealt with the train, and the less said about that the better.

I'm considering a split stay, too, but we just don't know the schedule. (DOOD's fall schedule just got changed...again.) We'd be upgrading, though, because we can't stay after the marathon. :sad2:

Wendy: You're here, you're here! So good to have you come join the, dare I say, fun!

As for me: I got my runs in this weekend, but they were abbreviated. Just too hot for me. I made up for it in the walking, though, and you all know I walk everywhere, so.... I ate well, and am up a 1/2 pound. I'm hoping to drop that over the next couple of days just so I can have a "maintain" week. I wouldn't want to pay for a weight gain. It was good to see DOOD and we had a very pleasant and productive weekend together.

And in a bit of good news, he heard back on an article and it's been accepted with only minor revisions. :yay: (He deserves all the research and writing credit, but I like to think the editing I do contributes just a little bit, if no more than shaping his work for a particular audience and being ruthless in the cuts.)

Last post before I leave --- I did it! 5 lbs in 5 days! Because I had a spike on Saturday (prompting the 5 in 5 frenzy), My net weight loss for the week is 2.8 lbs.

I'll see you guys at the end of the month -- keep going and best of luck!

Maria :upsidedow
