Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Debra: No way do I feel ignored! I am just glad you stopped by while on vacation! I am sorry to hear about the rain, but hopefully today will be nicer for you! Have a good time! :thumbsup2

Maria: The soda thing is hard......I went a good 3 weeks so far, but I actually am taking the day 'off' and got myself a soda today. I figured once in awhile can't be all that bad, and I was jonesing for one today. I am probably going to consider having one a week on Friday's........gives me something to look forward to! I just don't want one to to lead to another......we'll see! Good luck getting in your workout! I did 4 miles this morning.....and it was tough staying on the TM the whole time......I was dripping sweat so bad, it was really hot today. I need to buy myself a fan soon....

Wendy: I am sorry to hear about your down time......nothing is more frustrating than wanting to get it done, and not being able to. My dsis is going through that right now. She was training really well for a marathon this weekend (hoping to PR and Boston Q) but hurt her hip in abs class and few weeks ago. She hasn't been able to run more than 2 miles a day since then. She is SO frustrated. She won't be able to run this weekend at all......I have been talking her down off the ledge daily since she hurt herself. Doesn't help when I tell her how good I feel right now........logging over 30 miles a week! :cool1: She doesn't want to hear it.........I don't blame her, but she keeps asking!!!!! Take it easy and work your way back slowly this time! :thumbsup2

Vicky and Kim: Have a good race this weekend! Hope the weather is nice for you!

Cindy: Glad you are into the Jillian plan! I wondered what others would think about it! I have been liking it so far, but haven't gone all organic yet. I do look at prices, and if it's doable I will purchase the organic version. I like when the store specials are better and I can afford it!

AFM: As I said above....the TM was brutal today, but I happy to report that I stuck it out. I even got 2 workouts in yesterday, since my early TM time got interrupted with a late wake up call! So, I logged 6.5 miles yesterday between the 2 workouts, and 4 this am. I would like to get another workout in today, but I am not sure I will be able to. DS#1 has a baseball game tonight.....so it doesn't look likely. My weight is down a pound from last week, and I am in new numbers!!!!:cool1: I am happy with that. So, I lost a total of 20 pounds since January. It was slow going, and hard to do, but I am happier with a slow consistent weight loss......maybe I can keep it off this time!

I thought I would post a quote I have on my desk......

"It's very hard in the beginning to understand that the whole idea is not to beat the other runners. Eventually you learn that the competition is against the little voice inside you that wants you to quit."
- George Sheehan

Ok, guys, I am just stunned. I did my 4mi and got on the scale...I'm down 1.2! I can't believe it. I even weighed twice to be sure. Maybe what I thought was terrible eating wasn't that bad? :confused3 I definitely didn't do any exercise but yoga, so I can't explain it. But, I don't want to go through that worried feeling because I knew I didn't try again. You can bet I'll be jumping on the TM tomorrow am for my run!

Beth -- Congratulations on the new #s!!!! :woohoo:I love that quote! Yep, I realized pretty quickly I needed to be all about improving myself rather than beating others, 'cause that was just not going to happen :lmao:

Debra -- Um, no, I don't feel ignored when your posting during your getaway?! :confused3 I didn't expect to hear from you until next week! I hope you are having the time of your life, it sounds like a perfect trip, sans rain -- but into each life a little rain must fall :rolleyes1 :thumbsup2

Maria :upsidedow

Thanks for all the kind words. Not self-inflicted, Maria.... well... I think it probably was. I don't think it was outright cockiness, but I certainly overestimated my body's indestructability. I jumped from 2 months of rest into walking/running. weight training, and doing lunges -- then did a mountainous half in about a week. Now granted, before those 2 months I had been training steadily for Goofy, but (here's that phrase again) "at my age" I probably wasn't prepared for the jump in activity/intensity. Now, in my defense, the physical therapist said the "boot" treatment recommended by the ortho for my Achilles was exactly the wrong thing to do, so I likely made things worse by following that advice to the letter. Who knows? At any rate, I have had months of trying stretching, shoes, strengthening, shoe inserts, etc., etc., and have just recently been able to exercise without real pain. (It smarts, but it isn't the keep-you-awake-at-night stuff I'd been having.)

Today I'm meeting someone to ride the bike, and I'm also cross-training now in a very unorthodox manner -- the Wii! Yep, my husband's physical therapist recommended Wii Fit, Outdoor Adventure, etc. as good crosstraining activities -- especially for improving balance and agility.

Well, gotta go cycle! Thanks again for your warm welcome back!

I'm back...after a very long day of travel yesterday and an early drop-off time at the Amtrak for DOOD this morning. (Month-long research trip, so I'm a single lady again!) I'll be back to offer the personal replies later, after I've gone back to bed, woke up, gone to the gym, and done the dreaded post-trip weigh-in. Okay, so that means I'll be back on tonight! :rotfl2:

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I know you're all ea-GEAR to share your knowledge about your favorite clothing, training aids and technical toys, so this week's prompt posted here on the 'Ohana thread is:

Beyond the basics, what's your favorite/most-useful/most loved gear?

Of course, feel free to talk about your favorite shoes, socks, tech shirts or sports bras or other necessities. But I think we'd all like to know about that special something(s) that you've added to your "must have" for training, racing days, or just plain pleasure. For some of you, maybe it's your Garmin. Other, a special brand of sunscreen or a specific brand of water belt? Still others, a strategy for taping your legs and feet or a a favorite tracking website?

Please share your special finds with the rest of us. :thumbsup2

Welcome Back Debra! I hope you had a good time! Good luck getting everything done today.

Maria: Yippee!!!! WTG with the weight loss.....I have learned never to question a loss.......just go with it and enjoy it! So much better that way, than the opposite!

AFM: I had a really nice weekend. I got alot of outside yard stuff done yesterday.......never my favorite thing, but really like when it's done! I had to clean up my back porch.....it's brick with numerous weeds and crud in general. Got it cleaned up, and got ourselves a new grill! Nice to have.....I have missed having one for several years. Just not enough funds last year to get one.....so we cooked out last night! And the weather was beautiful and I got a 6 miler done!

DS#2 had a baseball game on Saturday......listen to this (((not to brag or anything)))) His team was losing 10 - 5 going into the last inning. So, they start swinging the bats well and scored 10 runs! So, we are winning 15 - 5 when the other teams starts batting......Our pitcher was in his 3rd inning and was tired.....so they score......score now 15 - 14 and the bases were loaded......in comes Alex as relief pitcher........I am stressing to the max.....Alex is a good pitcher, but sometimes needs to warm up a little. What pressure for a 10 year old......but he doesn't show it a bit........so 3 batters up, and 3 batters down without one hit........ WOW! I couldn't believe it was my kid......he looked phenemonial. I was just about puking with stress.......and my dh was actually in tears at the end...........it was the most emotional games he's been at. This same senerio happened last year, but dh only heard it on the phone. This time he got to see it as it was happening...... It's one of those moments that I want to bottle up and save when he is bad!!!! It was an honor to what him pitch! He really didn't get enough acknowlegement for what he did from the coach.....it was his son Alex had replaced and was crying on the field that he didn't get to finish the inning....... His team was happy with it though! Don't get to see your kids accomplish something like that all the time!

Hey Lean Meaners!

Debra - Welcome back. I can't wait to hear about your trip. :cool1:

Wendy - Best wishes for getting back to exercising without any problems. :goodvibes

Maria - Congrats on the weight loss. I love those kind of surprises!

Beth - I loved the baseball game story. Congrats to your DS. :thumbsup2

I was a major sloth and didn't exercise in any way, shape, or form last week. My plan was to start anew today. Well, last night, DS had a Cub Scouts award ceremony - in the woods. I'm not an outdoors kind of girl. Can you see where this is going? As we were walking down the path (an evil path of rocks and tree roots), I tripped and fell. I banged up my right hand and my left knee. I'm not sure which was worse, the pain or the embarrassment. I always say there's a reason my mother didn't name me Grace...:rolleyes1 Anyway, I didnt run today and probably won't run tomorrow either. I'm hoping that my knee will feel better by Wed or Thurs so I can get back on track.

Have a great week everyone!

Hey Lean Meaners! It's a new month! What happened to May?

Cindy - How did your 5.2 mile race go? Hopefully the rain stayed away.

Julie - About the Oreos, the funny thing about me is that ... I never really liked the Oreo centers much, I really only like the cookie part. Can you tell that I'm a carb addict? Hope your knee is feeling better. I'm the same way, the embarrassment is always worse. No worries though - Just make up a cool story about how you got the bruise :)

Wendy - I like your Baltimore marathon pic! You look so relaxed and happy at the finish :) Very cool that your PT recommends the Wii Fit!

Beth - That's a great quote! And congrats to your DS on a fantastic game! The weather yesterday was fantastic for running! It was a little cool for spectating but not too chilly in the sun.

Debra - Welcome back! Hope the weather cooperated with you while you at Stratford. Which plays did you go and see?

Maria - Congrats on the weight loss!!

AFM - I made it back in one piece from the Toronto Women's 1/2! Didn't make my goal of 2:20 or under but I still set a PB of 2:22:49. I met up with Kim, Erica and CJ before the race and hung out for a bit. The course was an out and back with a firefighters water station that you ended up passing by three times! That was fun - they were a great group, cheering for a lot of the runners by name! It was an even nicer surprise to see our guys there cheering us on. Spotted two women who cut one of the turn arounds. It was the first time I'd seen someone cheating. I thought maybe they didn't realize what they were doing but I looked up their bib numbers and they've done several races before. It made me angry because I was really out of gas at that point (note to self: bring something to eat and get more sleep).

Went to see my PT tonight - we did an active recovery workout. He did some ART on my hip/glutes so they're definitely not as tight anymore. I told him that it wasn't too bad after the race but that everything felt a lot worse today from sitting all day at my desk.

Have a great night everyone!

Good Morning Everyone, Happy June!!! Just 3 weeks until Summer.

Vicky: Congrats on your race with a PB. I don’t understand why someone would cut a course. I don’t blame you for being mad, but it’s their loss really. Glad you were able to work with your PT for your recovery. I’m sure that helps a lot. My race was pretty good, thanks for asking, see below for more details.

Julie: Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope your knee feels better soon.

Beth: What an awesome job your son did. I can imagine how stressful it was for you. My DS7 will have his first chance to pitch in a game tomorrow night. He is so excited. I think once a week diet coke sounds reasonable. It will be a nice treat for you. Glad you got your patio cleaned up and congrats on your new grill. Nothing beats grilling in the summer (especially because my DH does the cooking!!) Congrats on the 20 lbs since January. They are hard earned, but I’m sure worth the work.

Debra: Welcome back. Looking forward to hearing about your trip. How’s the single life going? Thanks for checking in with us while you were away.

Wendy: I’m glad you’ve come back to us. I’m glad you are able to exercise with minimal pain. The Wii Fit sounds like a great x-training option. Thanks for sharing the photos of Baltimore.

Maria: Maybe your body just needed a bit of a rest. Here’s hoping those 1.2 lbs stay away.

Kim: Hope you enjoyed your race.

AFM: My race on Thursday night was good. There were about 1100 runners and walkers. The start was so congested. We ran along the bikepath that runs along the Charles River. It wasn't until I got to 1.5 miles that I felt I could run my pace. After that I got into a pretty good rhythm and tried to push the pace. The weather was perfect for running. Chilly, but no rain. I ended up with a PR, only because I've never race a 5.2 mile race before. I'm signed up for another race on the same course on June 18th, so I'll try to best my time then.

Now that we’re in June I am trying to follow Jillian’s book. I’m going to have to make a few changes. She wants you to eat 4 times a day 4 hours apart and to stop eating several hours before bedtime. No matter how I try I can’t fit this into my day, so instead I’m going to eat 5 times a day 3 hours apart. I’m trying to have more of my points earlier in the day then have my dinner by 6:30 then no more eating before bed time. It didn’t really work out for me last night since I didn’t have dinner until 8, but I’ll try.

I am also setting as a goal in June to average 1 hour of exercise per day. I know some days I’ll be lucky to get 20 min, so I’ll have to make up for it on the other days.

I’ve had weight losses 3 weeks in a row at WW so I was feeling pretty happy about that, but then the weekend hit and I put a bit back on. I’m hoping I’m back on track now. I have 10.4 lbs to lose to reach my goal. I’m hopeful that by my triathlon in July (7 weeks away) I can reach it.

Yesterday was just crazy full of exercise. I got up early and did 2 Jillian DVDs. At lunchtime I met my friend at the gym and swam for 45 minutes including drills she’s having me do to improve my form. Then at dinner time I met another friend to do the biking and running part of the triathlon. The biking is 10 miles of rolling hills. The run is 3 miles. The first 1.5 miles is on the roads with a few inclines, then you get to the trail portion and you run thru this lovely meadow for ¼ mile then you turn into the trees and run straight up a side of a mountain with roots and rocks and tree stumps and mud. It had to be at least ¼ mile up if not more, I’ll have to check my Garmin to be sure. It was so much fun to push on such a challenging course. I’ll have to do a lot more hill training before this race because my legs were screaming. My friend was showing me the course because I didn’t know where the trail went and we must have taken a wrong turn because we ended up going 3.5 miles instead of 3. By last night I was so worn out, but in such a good way. I ended up with 2:45 of exercise which will in part make up for me hitting the snooze button this morning and skipping my Jillian Michaels DVD.

Gotta get some work done now since I’m leaving early for the 1st grade Parent’s Picnic.
Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Good morning Lean Meaners! Thanks to Cindy and Vicky for the kind words about Alex's game! I was thrilled, and appreciate your words!

Julie: Okay, we are SO similiar! I am the biggest klutz I know personally.....I am very careful walking on unfamiliar terrain and in the dark because if anyone is going to fall, it's me....... My dear mother used to think if I took some dance classes I would get more coordinated, but alas, that didn't work. I was always the little girl going the wrong direction, or tripping over her own feet. I totally sympathize with your fall.......I am always so embarressed. I hope it is feeling better and you can run soon.

Cindy: Great race! I love doing new distances.....always a great way to PR! :cool1: And good job with weight losses for 3 weeks! ((((Don't stress about the little gain....weekend do that to all of us!)))))

Debra: You were back, now you're missing again! ;)

AFM: So, Cindy isn't the only one to hit the snooze alarm! I didn't get up today. I was beat after being up so super early yesterday, I decided to sleep in. I don't have a baseball game tonight, just practice. I will be able to run during practice for at least an hour......that will work for me. I do find I have way more energy though when I get up in the morning and run.

I had my yearly work evaluation this morning, and got a 4% raise! In this economy, I will consider that good! Always nice to make more money!

Beth

Cindy: Not that I would ever be happy about having a vacation scaled back (same here), but it is kind of cool that doing so allows you to participate in a tri that you've been wanting to do. And what a way to maximize your XT, too! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the update on Jillian's book. It sounds like making small changes to shopping/diet is the way to go in following her plan. (I'm still on the wait list for it.) The eating frequently is a scheduling problem, but I think you've adapted it quite well. Between her book's recommendations and your hour-a-day plan, in addition to your tri training, I'm sure you'll continue to post losses at your WW meetings!

Oh, and congratulations on your 5.2 mile race--it feels good to push your pace and to have it pay off is a double bonus. And it sounds like you've been pushing yourself on the exercise front in general! :thumbsup2

Julie: I'm so glad to see you back here and committed to the running and healthy lifestyle! Except for that regular coke and Lucky Charms thing. :lmao: (And my list is much, MUCH longer than yours.) I'm very sorry to hear about your knee and hand--it really sounds like something I would do. How are you feeling today? Any bruising/swelling?

Beth: Congratulations on the new numbers! :woohoo: Like your kids, I think your progress is pretty darned spectacular. 20 pounds since January is awesome, and I'm even more impressed by the workout schedule on top of everything else you do. Yep, even more than the diet Coke (although I did have to think about that one :rotfl2:). And on a TM without a fan? :scared1:

And a special shout-out to your DS on his game and for being such a cool cucumber under all the pressure. He deserves all the kudos his parents (and the rest of us) can shower on him! :cheer2: P.S. Yay for the raise! Your good work is noticed and appreciated!

Wendy: Thanks for your review of the Baltimore event. I'll get over the hills--I'd get under them if I could, but that's probably not possible! HAH! And I do love a race with lots of support--adds to the day's excitement. And the pictures are stunning. I'm sure it will be lots of fun on the course, and seeing Bots too!

And in the more important news, I'm so glad to see you back and taking steps, slowly and surely, to walking and cycling and all sorts of activity. It's been rough for you in 2009 and I think of you often. You give so much to WISH that I hope we can give a little something back to you. I can't imagine how frustrating it's been for you to have to be so inactive. I'm relieved to hear that your intense pain seems to be subsiding. And I do have to say that I love the Rx for a little Wii Fit cross-training. Just the excuse I need!

Maria: Your trip is right around the corner! Are you excited?? :goodvibes It sounds like you really needed a mental health day, but that you're staying strong with everything. I know exactly what you mean by everything falling apart--this trip was a challenge, and one I did not rise to. All we can do is move forward, right? One step at a time--and I'm so proud that that's what you've been doing. That you took some down time and still lost weight is just a good sign of how hard you've been working, IMO, and how your body's metabolism is adjusting to the mileage.

Vicky: Congratulations on your PB at the 1/2 this last weekend. I was thinking about you (and the others) during the race, hoping for clear skies and smooth running. It sounds like you did great and deserved all the race support, unlike the cheaty McCheaters! And followed by an active session with your PT. You da woman! :worship:

As for me: Well, so much for a stellar start to June. :sad2: Up two pounds from the Stratford trip, which I'm hoping will shed fairly quickly, at least some of it. Lots of eating, starting with the decadent layout at breakfast at our B&B. And then lots of sitting for the plays. Even though I got up for a run every day before breakfast, my workouts were abbreviated, etc. Plus, there was the drinking. Turns out our innkeepers make their own wine, and give their guests bottles to enjoy.

But it was a good trip for the most part, poundage aside. It had been 7 or 8 years since we'd been to Stratford. We saw Ben Jonson's Bartholomew Fair, which was the first professional production in North America, and the strongest production we saw (although I think the play is a hard sell, and not Jonson's strongest). We also saw Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest (great play, solid production), Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, and took a warehouse tour. That and the usual eating, window shopping, drafting the reviews of the plays, etc. A nice trip, if a little short and work oriented.

The hardest part was the travel days; we were on the road over 12 hours each day, what with plane connections and border crossings. DOOD caught a cold on the trip, which had fully manifested by the flight home. I've got it now, a less serious version. Getting sick on our trips is one of those couples things we do. :lmao:

So yesterday I was shot as far as any productive work, etc., as was DOOD. (He spent most of his day on a train to D.C., so he slept.) But he's gone for all of June, finally! I've yet to enjoy the single life, unless you count sleeping in our bed, alone, for uninterrupted hours to be enjoyable. Which I do, so yeah, I'm having a great time! :rotfl:

I received the mail today and the Netflix copy of Jillian's 30 Day Shred hasn't shipped yet, so I've yet to implement that plan. Tomorrow I'll go looking for an alternate copy of the DVD if it doesn't come in the mail--I'm headed down to one of our malls tomorrow for an advance screening of The Taking of Pelham 123 (Denzel Washington, John Travolta). I also picked up The Gorgeously Green Diet to read while waiting for Jillian's book. Anyone heard of it?

Debra: When you post, you POST girlfriend. How do you keep track of everything, everyone says? I have a hard time knowing what I posted yesterday for goodness sakes! You are very through in your posts, and it's appreciated by me because it's a good recap for me!!!! :lmao::lmao:

I am sorry to hear of the increased poundage, but I have to say, I would have gained a whole lot more than you did! Sounds like you had some obsticals in your way........the breakfast and wine!:scared1: I would not have made it out alive!

So, you're a single woman right now! That has it's good points, but I am sure there is some bad with that too! The best thing would be that I wouldn't have to cook supper! The kids don't need a real dinner to be happy......grilled cheese is it's own food group at my house! ((((one of which they would eat every day without a complaint!)))))) I can't say that for dh....he is still a big fan of real dinner! :sad2: I am much happier eating a larger lunch, and a small dinner.

The bad would be that I can't sleep very well when dh is traveling......I like having the whole bed, but it does not translate to a good nights sleep.....even without all the snoring! :scared1: I still don't get that one.....

AFM: I have to say that I have been enjoying looser clothes over the last few weeks. I am able to wear some things that I couldn't wear last year....that always feels good. It was a good plan losing weight over the winter months! It makes Spring and Summer so much nicer! I am hoping that the slow way the weight came off will help me keep it off, and continue losing. I am flirting with the idea to get down even lower than the last time.... I always wanted to weigh 150 pounds, but that was never doable after I turned 40. The time I lost 90 pounds with weight watchers, I went down to 135 pounds, but it was completely unrealistic for me. I maintained that 135 pounds for about 12 minutes. I think with my body make-up and build, I would be ok at 160......but 150 would be a whole lot better! But, if I can't loosen up once and awhile to eat things I like at 150 and maintain it.....it wouldn't be successful for me. My sites are currently on 160......and I am hunting that goal down and it's in the cross hairs!!!!!!!

Beth

Good Morning Lean Meaners.

Debra: I hope you are feeling better soon. I agree with Beth, 2 lbs on your vacation is nothing. It would have been rude not to drink the wine the Innkeepers worked so hard to make. I hadn't heard of The Gorgeously Green Diet, but just looked it up. I'll be interested in how you like it. I just ordered Tosca Reno's Eat Clean Diet, I think Vicky recommended it at some point. I hope 30 Day Shred and Mastering your Metabolism come soon. (Note you've positively influenced me into underlining book names.)

Beth: Yea for the looser clothes. Definitely taking it off slowly is key to keeping it off. You do need to be able to treat yourself with your favorite foods every once in a while, or it's too hard to keep at it. My DS7 is always negotiating a yummier choice. We've decided that once a month I'll buy the white bagels instead of the wheat ones and every third time I'll get the buttered microwave popcorn instead of the light. He seems happy with this compromise. Congrats on your 4% raise. Every bit helps.

I did manage to get my DVD in yesterday afternoon after skipping it in the morning. I got out of work early to attend my son's Parent Picnic at school. It was great, he got to show me a lot of his artwork and writing projects. We brought our own lunches so I was able to eat healthy. I contemplated bringing a turkey sandwich, but brought a salad instead and ended up spilling salad dressing all over the place. Oh well, best intentions.

This morning I heeded the alarm clock and got up for a DVD. I hope to get out at lunch to run. I stuck to my plan of eating every 3 hours yesterday and nothing after dinner. The nothing after dinner part was really challenging, but I did it. We have baseball tonight, so I'm not sure how I'm going to eat my dinner on time. I may try to rush home afterwork to pack a picnic dinner for me and the DDs before we go to the game.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Hey Lean Meaners!

Cindy - Congrats on the PR! I must say that is some serious work out yesterday! I'm waiting for a copy of Jillian's book from the library - it will probably take some time though, there are 100+ holds and only 24 copies. Yikes!

Beth - Congrats on the raise and the loose clothing! I like your idea of losing weight in the winter. That way, you can just go ahead and buy clothes and soon as the spring and summer stuff hits the store.

Debra - What's a vacation if you can't indulge a little :) I think the 2 pounds could just be fluids. I definitely don't drink enough water while on vacation. Enjoy the screening The Taking of Pelham 123 :) I saw Up on Sunday. I don't think I've cried while watching an animated film in a very long time... or at the beginning.

AFM - My tight right hip is slowly loosening back up. I'll be back in the gym on Thursday for another training session. I've added an extra 1/2 hour session for this month. I really want to be more aggressive about the weight loss before my next 1/2. I'm also cutting out refined sugars, white bread, fried foods, diet soda (Thanks for the idea Beth :) ), rice and white pasta for the next month and a bit. That's why I ate a few Oreos on the weekend :)

Make it a great day everyone!

Good Evening, Meaners!

I'm going to try to post before dinner. I have a date with ds for "Wipeout" tonight, so my time is limited. I'm not fancy free and single like some posters this week :rolleyes1 Lucky Girl! :thumbsup2

My TM was stuck at 4.0 incline today, so I had a bit more strenuous workout than I'm used to at .5  I could not run, but I did go at my normal walking speed, so that's a bonus. The bad part is I feel totally worn out now, and sore. The very good news is dh called to set up a service call, and the technician talked him through getting it down again on the phone, and it now seems to be completely repaired! :woohoo: My run/walk schedule is now off, so I'm going to just walk tomorrow to get back on track (I was supposed to run today).

Vicky -- That is a seriously aggressive diet, I'm sure you will see incredible results! ::yes::

Cindy -- Nothing after dinner is always a challenge for me. I try to limit myself to a pre-bed small snack, but sometimes the popcorn:: calls...;)

I'm sorry that's as far as I can get before dinner -- Debra, enjoy your freedom, and we'll be here to chat, I promise! Beth enjoy those loose clothes, and your confidence!

More tomorrow, I promise!

Maria :upsidedow

Good Morning Everyone,

Just a quick post. I did get up and go to the gym for a swim before work. I'm still trying to find a pair of goggles that won't leak, but don't hurt my eyes either. Running is so much less complicated.

I've been eating pretty well for 3 days now. I'm really hoping to continue, but my enthusiasm tends to wane after a while. I am doing The Relay for Life tomorrow night. It's just 12 hours, 6 PM Friday until 6 AM Saturday. These are usually hours that I'm not eating much, but since I'll be awake I'll probably eat a lot more than usual. My plan is to walk or run for as much as I eat. We're supposed to have rain, so it might be a miserable time. I'm trying to be positive about it. Our team has raised a ton of money for the Cancer Society.

Maria: Nice job to do your work out despite the TM snafu. You could have used it as an excuse not to do your workout, but you didn't. Yea you!! I hope you enjoyed your date.

Vicky: Good luck cutting out all that white stuff. Can't blame you for a few oreos ahead of time. Hope the hip is feeling better. When is your next 1/2?

Beth: Hope you are having a good day. My DS7 pitched last night for the first time in a game. He did AWESOME. He struck out the side. Granted these are 1st and 2nd year players who strike out more often than not, but it was fantastic just the same.

Have a great day everyone.

Cindy:We are just the proud Mom's, aren't we? Good job to ds! Pitching is hard, and I always feel so 'responsible' if it doesn't go well! The team really counts on the pitching, and it's nerve racking for us moms! :lmao: I am glad he was successful! Good luck with the eating and your Relay for Life! (((((I will hope for no rain!))))

Maria:Sorry to hear about the TM troubles.....but yeah it's fixed already!!!! What would we do without our 'handy' dh's??? ((((mine isn't always that handy, but he comes through most of the time!)))))) Good for you that you hung in there and got the workout in anyway!

Vicky:Cutting the white stuff out is a great idea......but easier said than done! It's a difficult thing to do, I know. Processed carbs are the worst for us, but boy, don't they taste good? Hang in the first week......the cravings are the worst, but get much better after 5 to 7 days. The one thing that kept me going was the darn scale. It moved rapidly for me, and kept me motivated to hang in there. I was always grateful for that......without the scale moving, I would have given up! After a long time without bread, I have discovered a double fiber bread that has only 2 net carbs! ((((((Mine is Schmidt's, but you probably would have better success finding the Peppridge Farms variety. It's 100% whole wheat with extra fiber......5g per slice, which is awesome for bread))))))

AFM: My husband's daughter graduates tonight, so I managed to get the ol' body out of bed this morning for a 5 miler on the dreaded TM......but with my new window fan, it wasn't bad! And, a good episode of Angel, and I was set! Went by pretty quickly!

The boys only have today and tomorrow in school, and they are off for summer vacation! I can't quite believe how fast this school year went......way to fast. ((((My boys don't think so)))))

I had to take off next week to watch them. My dsis watches them for me for the summer, but she isn't done school until late next week. So, it's a weeks vacation for me! I am going to attempt a decent house cleaning.....but that is always hard with the boys home. We'll see how that goes! (((((or doesn't! :scared1:)))))

Trying to tip toe back in........

Hey Everyone! Just popping in to say hello.....

Hope everyone is doing great!

Helloooooo?????? ((((((bad echo in here)))))))

Where is everyone??????

Chris: Welcome back, nice to see you. Don't slink in......just come back with a smile! :thumbsup2 We missed you. How's it going?

AFM ((((((since no one else is here, it can be all about me!:thumbsup2)))))):

I am down to an official 20 pound loss since Jan 1, 2009. Today was the final .5 pound to get there. I have been playing with that .5 since last week and it is now gone (and will stay gone).

I did get up today for my 60 min/ 5 miler on the TM. We have had so much rain this week......I am water logged! I haven't been outside to run since Tuesday and I miss it! The weekend is supposed to be nice, so maybe a long run outside will work!

I succumed to my stupid schedule last night.......I didn't get dinner, since we had to run to Ephrata last night for my dh's daughter's graduation. My kids stayed with my dad, and they went out to eat ((((lucky them)))) but we didn't have time to eat. Grabbed a 1/2 sandwich on the way, but that was it. So, last night I was starving......and eat a bowl of Apple Jacks (((((WTH? I don't even really like them, but it was all we had cereal wise))))))) I really wish I had had some Lucky Charms (Tracey) instead....that would have been so much better! Anyway, I woke up at midnight with a stomach ache......ugh, refined carbs make me sick (((((I guess I forgot that!)))) I always look back on something like that with questions........life experiences teach me much, ever????? The answer to that is NO! Taking the easy way out with food never works, cause I always choose the wrong thing! But, I am moving on!

Hope everyone else is having a good Friday!

Beth

Hello, everyone! I was sitting here in wonder at all the interesting folks we have on this list -- Debra just back from Stratford, and Cindy who can manage 2:45 of exercise in one day (:scared1:), Beth who could easily choose sportscasting as her alternate career, and Maria, who has been hiking the Alps in the comfort of her own home -- I don't say often enough how I love reading your posts. And a warm welcome back to Chris -- one of the most positive and inspirational folks I know!

AFM: Yesterday was a 9-point-something mile bike ride on what is advertised as a 5-mile bike trail (The only thing I hate about my Garmin -- I was so much happier loading up the bike when I thought I'd ridden 10 miles.) Little ITB ache in the hip, but nothing terrible, and this morning I've taken some anti-inflammatories. I'm hoping I can get one or both of my girls to go with me to Biltmore Estates later this week (school ends for them midweek) to ride there again. It was so beautiful there the last time we went, and I'm hoping a weekday wouldn't be quite so crowded.

Spent most of last night poring over the hotel listings for Virginia Beach's Rock 'n' Roll Half in Sept. I just cannot stomach $200/night (or more) for a hotel room. When I saw a $99 ding fare from RDU to LAX (or Orange County), it occurred to me that it might be cheaper to do Disneyland than RnR! Crazy! Obviously the bottom line -- with park tickets, the longer stay, etc, would actually be more expensive, but it is really difficult for me to justify spending almost that much for a non-Disney race. <sigh> I'm still plotting...

Debra, get over your cold quickly, and Cindy, hope RFL went well, and Beth, don't sweat the Apple Jacks. (I read "movin' on" and could hear Dick VanDyke saying it in my head, a la "Night at the Museum".)
