Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Maria,....WTG, have a great trip!!!!!

Is it too late to get in on this????

What do I have to do?????

Vicky, with your split stays how did you get from resort to resort? We usually have a rental but won't this time, we are at POP right now from Thrus to Mon then to BWV till Sat. We are waitlisted for BWV for the Thurs to Mon but I am not holding much hope.

Have a great day all

Morning everyone!

Kim - With split stays, the resort will transfer your luggage internally. You bring it to bell services and tell them which hotel you're moving over to. Then we usually just take the bus to the parks and then to the hotel to check in. If you do it this way, just make sure you take anything you think you might need for the day because the luggage transfer takes about 3-4 hours. I think if you have a rental, it's probably more convenient because you can keep your luggage with you.

Maria - Congrats!! :cheer2: Have a great time! Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back!

Debra - Yay! I missed your posts while you were in DC. I definitely think your editing contributes - it's the little things right? Well, little probably isn't the right word but you know what I mean. It always helps to have a second set of eyes :) Have you seen any other movies lately? I have a copy of Five Easy Pieces but haven't had time. And I sort of want to see The Proposal this weekend.

Cindy - I totally missed the link you posted with the fibre counts. Didn't realize raspberries were so high in fibre.

AFM - I walked underground for my exercise yesterday. It was to go shopping but it was a 15 min walk each way. One thing about losing weight is that I'm finding that I want to buy a lot more clothes  But I guess if I'm spending my money on clothes, I won't have a lot left over for snacks and sweets

Tonight I'm off to the gym for a quick 1/2 hour workout. DF has plans to make ribs for dinner ... which I'm normally all for but I have to watch what I eat since we're doing the weigh-in tomorrow. I asked him to throw a piece of chicken breast on the grill and to get some veggies so we can make a salad.

Have a great day everyone!

Official weigh in: 138.8. A whopping 0.6 lb loss. I'm a little disappointed, I was hoping for more, but that's what I get for eating so much bday cake last weekend. I'll have to remind myself of that tomorrow when I'm at my nephew's bday party.

My pts for the week are 40 out of 42. I forgot a vitamin one day and couldn't stay up for 2 hours after eating once.

I"ll be back to respond to people's posts later. I just wanted to get this posted before I forgot.

Have a great day!!
Cindy

Thanks Vicky I didn't know they would do that!!!

Cindy congrats on your weight loss.

AFM: I was only down a pound this week, which really surprises me cause I have got off pepsi again and cut down my sugar but I think I might be retaining a bit of water;) so hoping for a better weigh in need week.

Hi all I'll respond to previous posts soon but wanted to get this in before I forgot. I'm down 1.5lbs this week and I haven't gone back to count all of my points yet so I will try to do that asap.

I'm a little disappointed, I was hoping for 2 but it's my own fault. On Wednesday I was told we're going to have layoffs in my dept. There's only six of us and I just have that gut feeling that I'm one of the people to go. So my friends came up and I think I drank a day's worth of calories so really I'm lucky I lost at all this week. I'm hoping for better results next week, just have to stay on track!

More later, but congrats to all on their hard work this week!

Hi,

I dont have a weight to report since the batteries on our scale died this morning! The scale is 5 years old though, so I can not complain!

20 points for me this week. Forgot to track my fiber, and I so need to start taking a vitamin.

Amy

215!
I LOST 3 POUNDS!!!!!!! My body is very resistant to any kind of weight-loss, so for me, that is HUGE!!!!!! Best of all, I'm not hungry and I feel great. I've been loading up on veggies and drastically reducing the meat. It seems to be working. Last night I even had pasta: 2 servings worth (according to the box) of whole wheat linguini with steamed broccoli all lightly tossed in olive oil with garlic. It felt totally sinful but was actually quite low in calories for dinner and had tons of fiber.
Put me down for 37 points this week. I missed getting my complete fiber requirement 4 days and went to bed within 2 hours of eating another day. You will happy to know I got in both my multi-vite AND supplement every single day. :woohoo: Can't wait to find out what our bonus point is for next week.

/
Maria: I just know that you're not going to read this when you're gone, but I still have to say :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: for 5 lbs./5 days weight loss! Have a great time!

Kim: Great to have you along on the weight-loss challenge. We'll be training for the Goofy together, too, so lots of support for one another! :goodvibes Congratulations both on the pound and the diet soda abstinence. I'm sure the weight loss will kick in next week, too, once your body adjusts to your change in sugar intake.

Vicky: First, thanks for the information on the split stay/luggage situation. If we do an extended stay--and we're up in the air--then we'll do a split. Although we tend to get a rental car, too. So much undecided. Just saw The Proposal. A fairly strong rom-com, if you like the genre. Sandra Bullock is at the top of her game and I'm beginning to like Ryan Reynolds. I wish the script were a little sharper, but I had a couple of laugh-out-loud moments. (Oh, but for the era of the true screwball comedy.)

Congrats on the continued joy of clothes shopping. Again, all about the positive reinforcement. And I have to say I'm impressed that DF does that kind of cooking. Take-out is DOOD's speciality.

Cindy: Let's put this into perspective. You LOST weight this week, after the birthday cake incident. Excellent news, just excellent. And you scored lots of BL challenge points. That's progress you (and all of us) can track!

Sarah: WTG on the 1.5 pounds. That's a nice substantial weight loss, especially considering your stressful work week and liquid solace. I'm sending some PD your way that you're not one of the ones to be laid off, but it's stressful no matter what happens.

Amy: Your scale died because it's been shamed into retirement. :rotfl2: You've been rocking your goals for a while now, and adding that multi-vitamin and tracking the fiber will just help out! :thumbsup2

Jeanne: 3 pounds! :cool1: That's a great way to kick off that photo-finish goal. Your broccoli, linguini, garlic pasta dish sounds heavenly. I think of garlic as one of those magic foods--flavorful without all the calories, and good for you in so many other ways. :cloud9: And a woo hoo for the vitamin/supplment double header! Excellent.

As for me: Okay, looks like I'll be the one setting the bottom of the curve this week. I lost the 1/2 pound I gained from this week, but no more. So a net loss of 0 pounds. Or in the positive spin, I've maintained.

Put me down for 36 points, too. The train trip home was bad for water intake, I was unable to guarantee the fiber for one day, and it turns out that eating late at night is one of my Achilles heels--especially on the road. Who knew? :confused3 Well, now I DO know and can strategize that doesn't involve staying up later. :rotfl2: Very useful stuff.

I've yet to crack open the Gorgeously Green Diet, but it's due at library Monday, so guess what I'm doing tonight? Report to follow.

I'm quoting Beth here, just for everyone's tracking convenience.

So we have several people in for a Biggest Loser Cyber competition...... I can set up some ideas, if you all want to tell me what you think of them.

The weigh in will be once a week. Nancy and I decided on Friday, since a good week of eating right lent itself to a good weigh in on Friday. I would be willing for any day of the week.

We also count points each day. You can accumulate 6 points a day. The points are awarded for the following:

1) Drink 64 oz of water a day.
2) Take a mulit-vitamen.
3) Get 25 g of fiber a day
4) 1 point for 15 minutes of exercise (You may earn 2 points a day 30
min of exercise each day)

We then have a floater point each week that changes (such as dairy intake, fruits/veggies, etc) If you are having trouble with a certain thing, we will make it a point thing.

We don't need to post our weight per se, but just our weight loss each week. I will include my weight just for accountability sake, but you all don't have to do that.

We can keep count of point winners each week, weight loss winners each week, and the at the end of the competition the point leader and weight loss winner.

We can include a exercise challenge each week for bonus points if you want to.

How about a six week challenge to start, and if we like it, we can do another one?

Let me know what you think.

Beth

Here's a recap of the week......

Cindy: -0.6lb
40 points

Kim: -1.0 lb

Sarah: -1.5lb
30 points

Amy: no reported weight (dead scale!)
20 points

Jeanne: - 3lbs
37 points

Debra: -0.5lb
36 points

Wendy: -0.6
no reported points (started part way through the week!)

Vicky: -0.2
22 points

AFM: I am tracking myself, but will not count myself in the winners circle! I have been doing this for awhile, and alot of it comes pretty easy! My weight loss is 3 pounds....how that happened, I am not sure......but there it is! The spa weight loss challenge calculated that I lost 27.5 inches from last week, but I know that it isn't true. Two different people from one week to the other measured me, and the first one didn't do a good job of it. The second one this week did it right....so I don't think there was a loss like they thought. But I will take the 3 pound loss!

I had all 42 points......only because I couldn't fall asleep the one day I ate late! I guess I had the point thing in my mind!

For next week points:

1) Multiple vit daily

2) 25 g fiber daily

3) Exercise 15 min daily (may earn 2 points for 30 min)

4) 64 oz of water daily

5) Floater point: 2 servings of dairy daily

I will include a Bonus point this week!!!! One extra bonus point for a push up challenge....... Start tomorrow (Sat) with 3 push-ups (may be 'girl' push-ups, or the full out 'manly' push up!) Add one each day for a total of 9 on next Friday. You may earn the bonus point to replace a missed point or additonal point for your total for the week.

Congrats to everyone for a great first week of the Challenge!!!! Good JOB!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

The day was a busy one for me today....Sorry to be posting so late. I had another baseball game tonight, but I am off tomorrow! The team playing ds#1 forfitted the game tomorrow! Yippee!

Beth

20 points for me this week! Not tracking fiber and not taking a vitamin killed me!

Beth: congrats on the weight loss! The fact that you have been doing this for a while and are STILL losing weight is very impressive!

Here's a little hint towards both this weeks bonus point and the fiber requirement. Fiber One Yogurt has 5 grams of fiber per serving. If you have 2 servings daily, that's your bonus dairy and a good chunk of fiber. Better yet, mix the yogurt with some raspberries and you've got even more fiber.

I did 5 ugly miles this morning in the heat. I was out the door by 7am but it wasn't early enough to avoid the high temps and humidity. I did my first 4 miles at 14:15 and then took it easy for the last one. I've been adding some running to my 2-milers on the treadmill, but can't seem to do any on the real pavement. My neighborhood is quite hilly so maybe that's why. It is a good place to train, though.

Have a good weekend everyone......have a happy father's day and good luck with the challenge!

232 even. Don't know how that compares with my weight on Wednesday, but I'm cool with it since I know I'll do better with a full week to compete next weigh-in.

Congratulations Jeanne, Cindy, Kim, Sarah -- and Beth, our challenge coordinator. And Debra, good for you for maintaining!

Just got back from the long drive from my FIRST bike ride -- 13 miles. Woooohoooo! :woohoo: I'll report later -- I didn't want to eat on the road, so I am STARVING!!!!

Great challenge week everybody!!!!

Biggest Loser recipe of the day:

Breakfast Cookies (from About.com)

****even my kids (and dh) liked them, and that's saying something!

1 large banana (the riper, the better)
3/4 cup granulated sugar (I used baking Splenda)
3/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup water
2 egg whites
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (good omega 3's!!)
1/4 cup chocolate chips (I used Hershey's sugar free)

Oven 350 degrees
1. In large mixing bowl, mash banana. With mixer beat in sugar, peanut butter, water and egg whites until smooth.

2. Add flours, baking soda, and salt.

3. Stir in remaining ingredients. Drop by the quarter-cupful (I used tablespoon size reg cookie size) onto a ungreased cookie sheet.

4. Bake 14-18 minutes for larger cookie. I baked mine for 11 minutes as they were smaller.

Per serving: (for the large cookies makes 10) (mine made 32) 495 cal, 26 fate (5g sat fat), 0 mg cholesterol, 56 g carb, 6 g fiber, 23 g sugars, 15g protein

I made these to freeze to eat before I run. I need a little something before my LR, and thought these would fit the bill! Good for fiber too!

Beth

Hey Lean Meaners! Sorry for not checking in earlier - I went for a massage on Saturday and then just took the rest of the weekend off.

As for the BL challenge, I think I finish last this week. I lost 0.2 pounds *sigh* but ... I'm not disappointed because it's still a loss. I have 22 points. I wasn't keeping track of my fibre in take so I'll have to be more diligent about it next week.

Speaking of push ups - I'm trying the one hundred push up challenge with DF. http://hundredpushups.com/test.html One of my friends showed it to me so I was curious to see if I really could do that many at the end of six weeks. Has anyone done it before? I tried the inital test and did 30 - although ... DF said that I wasn't doing them properly and I said the same thing about his push ups.

Debra - I never really liked Ryan Reynolds much either. I always thought the characters/roles he took on were a little boring (or safe). Didn't make it out to see The Proposal- I'm wondering if it's more of a rental than a theatre movie. DF is great at cooking - I'm like DOOD, I'm great with the take out menus. I think if it weren't for him (and my mom), I would have starved to death long ago!

Jeanne - Congrats on the 3 pound loss!! Awesome!

Beth - That cookie recipe looks yummy! I like your idea of freezing them to have before a run. I just have to figure out the timer on my oven so they can bake while I'm out.

Wendy - WTG on the 13 mile bike ride! Are you training for a race or is that part of your regular workout routine?

AFM - I woke up late today but was still determined to go out for my run. It was humid!! Even though I only went out for 3 miles, I don't feel like I drank enough water. I also noticed my "sweatproof" sunscreen was melting off me when I got back home. I don't think I was burned but it didn't make me feel good either.

Went over to DF's house to celebrate Father's Day with his family. They BBQ'd lots of stuff - ribs, Wagyu steaks (which are soooo delicious!!) ... no veggies though. Go figure. I took Jeanne's advice of just eating what I wanted instead of everything in front of me. So I don't think I did too badly. DF made a few dry rub ribs for me which didn't have sugar or sauce so I thought that was nice.

Then I went home and had dinner with my dad. I watched everyone eat dessert but strangely I didn't really didn't feel like I was missing out. Then they decided to walk home (about 10-15 minutes) and I took the car. It worked out since I was wearing heels anyway. So Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there!

Have a great night everyone!!

The Mixer starts here on the 'Ohana thread....

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I asked a variation of this on team thread, but it makes for a good general prompt. Lots of us are finalizing our late summer/fall/early 2010 race schedules and/or in training for them. So let's talk events. Two questions:

  1. What event have you committed to that you're most looking forward to, Disney marathon weekend excluded? And
  2. What are you most looking forward to about Disney marathon weekend, if you are attending? (With sympathy :grouphug: to those who are not.)

WINNER WEEK ONE: WEIGHT LOSS

Jeanne!
:banana::cheer2::banana:

WINNER WEEK ONE: POINTS

Cindy!
:banana::cheer2::banana:

Congrats to Jeanne for a STELLAR week!

**Sorry to Cindy for having missed her posted points of 40! WTG Cindy!

I have to say that I am really proud of all of you for a great start of the Biggest Loser here on the Lean Meaners. Everyone had a loss, and alot of effort was made by all. Keep up the good work!

Vicky: Sounds like you had a great weekend! The steaks sound good! Try to track your fiber this week....it's really good information to have! Good luck with your push up challenge with DF!

AFM: I had a nice weekend.....busy, but nice! I had too much to get done yesterday, and I wanted a long run. DS#2 had an away baseball game at 3:00 yesterday, so I ended up running to it.....it was only 7 miles, but at least it was something. It seemed like more, since it was a new route for me and I am so used to the TM running right now. It was some hard work to run the 'new' terrain, but I am glad it got done. I didn't have the time to get a decent run in before his game, so it all worked out.

Alex ended up with a good game yesterday, including a grand slam in the 4th inning! (((((actually he informed me later that it was a triple with an error))))) but in MOM speak it was a grand slam!!!!! He pitched 2 innings and had more strikes than balls, so I count that as a success too!

The ball team had a picnic after the game, and by then I was starving since I hadn't eaten since breakfast, so I ended up eating too many chips.....easy in, and regret it later! But all in all a good father's day!

Beth

Beth: Congratulations on the 3 pounds & the inches (no matter how accurate they might have been, you know you lost a lot of inches). I love the Breakfast Cookie idea, and not just because you called them cookies. (Doesn't hurt.) It's the peanut butter/walnuts combo. Yummy. And a lot of protein, too.

DS#2 had an away baseball game at 3:00 yesterday, so I ended up running to it.....it was only 7 miles,

Let's stop right there and take a moment to celebrate this statement. You ran. To an away baseball game. "Only" 7 miles. Most people wouldn't do that, even if they run. Wowsa. Oh, and WTG to Alex. His grand slam--I'm with you on that one--is great news!

Jeanne: YAY for being the week one winner! (Or is that loser?) I love the yogurt/raspberry combination idea for fiber. It's a great time of the year for the latter. Yummy. You did a great job with your 5 miler in the heat. And I do think the TM running will help you on the pavement if you keep at it. Hills, they're a killer.

Wendy: WTG with your first bike ride. First and 13?? You rock, woman!

Vicky: Congratulations on your LOSS. Your Father's Day celebrations sound relaxing and successful on the Lean Meaner front. DF's compromise with the dry rubs speaks volumes about him. He's a gem, I can tell. What kind of sunscreen are you using, btw, because I know you asked about that. (The Proposal might work just as well as a movie rental, in terms of screen size and all. It doesn't have the big-screen special FX or cinematogaphy that requires the big screen. Not to disagree with Sarah, just a different p.o.v. Then again, there's something to be said about seeing comedies in the theater--collective laughter.)

Sarah: I'm not sure about talent as a writer. If I have talent, it's probably as a researcher and editor--you know, working with other peoples' work. :lmao: But I blush at the compliment.

And congrats for staying so close to your eating plan. I'm a big fan of the cheese, so there would be no stopping me with the nachos. I'll be sending PD your way for the Diet Coke detox. Difficult, oh so difficult. But I think getting rid of the caffeine will also help you better deal with the job-situation stress. Continued PD to you! (And some for your dog and his ACL, too.)

As for me: Ah, I'm still working tonight, so I'll be up late. And I have to finish my water intake, so I'll probably get up in the middle of the night, too. What we do for a challenge. :lmao: Now, it's good for me, really, and I should have been drinking more water earlier rather than my diet Coke. (I'm still thinking of quitting, but no action here.)

I didn't start the pushups until Sunday, but I like this (even if I'm going girly). Need to work on these arms. So Vicky, thanks for the link to the push up challenge. Just what I need. And, how convenient! It only requires me. No other equipment. Sometimes I think I get all wrapped up in the toys that I forget that old-school can be just as effective. :thumbsup2

Good morning Lean Meaners! How's it going?

Sarah: Sorry to hear about your dog's injury......and a repeat too! Poor thing....never a good rehab on a hurt leg! I hope it goes ok.....does he get pain killers? I would hope so..... And, I hope the job situation improves too. This economy is a killer right now....PD for you!:wizard::wizard:

Debra: I am glad you like the push up challenge.....I wasn't sure what you all would think of it! No one complained yet......I guess I'll take that for what it's worth! Yeah, diet Coke......continues to haunt me! I am now drinking 2 a week.......I bribed myself with one this morning too! I couldn't seem to get out of bed early this morning for my standing date with my TM, so I used a little bribe to get it done. I got a diet Coke for my 'pain'! :woohoo:

AFM: The weather this morning would have been perfect for a run outside.....I just didn't consider it! I am used to stumbling into my workout room for the TM.......When I left for work, it was cool and refreshing outside. I could have kicked myself! Never even thought about it!

I was looking at my exercise journal last night. I have run every day (except the day after my 1/2 in early May) since March. That's something in my world......I would have never thought that I could do something like that before......I was the confirmed couch pototo! (or would that be the couch sitter with a bag of potato chips?????)

It was another 35 mile week last week too! Not to shabby. I am glad that I feel stronger, with no nagging injuries, to show for my trouble. And, I got to Pilates last night!!!!! :dance3: Praise to the baseball team that didn't have enough players to play last night!!! I would be ever grateful to them! Tonight I am not so lucky......ds#1 plays at 6:00!

Eating has maintained......despite the evil temptation of pizza last night! The boys were hankering for delivery pizza.....and it had been awhile for it.....I relented (though I think the prices are riduculous!) and ordered Papa Johns after my Pilates class. I refrained (though it was difficult) and made a new seschun shrimp recipe (which was really tasty!).

I hope the challenge is going well for everyone!

Beth
