Weight loss for Wishers and becoming Leaner Meaners!

Hey Leaner Meaners!

Sorry I have been MIA for a while. Life has just been really busy lately, plus we were in Disney for 9 days last month.

Due to the fact that we were in Disney recently, I have no weight loss or healthy eating to report.

I'm off to catch up on all of the posts that I've missed and to hop back on the healthy eating bandwagon.

P.S. Beth, I must confess that I ate Lucky Charms almost every day in Disney. The only days I didn't eat them were the days when we went out to breakfast, which was even worse with all of the donuts, danish, croissants, etc. :sad2:

Julie: When is there a better time to endulge in a lovely bowl of Lucky Charms???? That's the reason we go on vacation! I love them, and will use any excuse to eat them.......you are looking in the wrong direction for punishment......I envy you!

Beth

Beth: Oh, but I want to do as you do! ;) I'm working on the daily exercise thing, and your posts help me with what currently is a less-motivated cycle. One step forward, 1/2 step back for me, you know. So not only am I encouraging you--because I love seeing your progress for you--but it's selfish of me. I benefit from good examples and mentors! :goodvibes

Good to hear about Nancy. She's a strong, strong woman.

DOOD and I were toying with the RnR Chicago 1/2, but now it looks like my parents will be visiting that weekend on their way to visit my brother, my SIL and what will be my new niece. Too bad, as it sounds like a fun event. Hot, but fun. And I enjoyed the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It sounds like you've got a themed weekend! :woohoo:

And great progress with the running and scale. And resisting the temptation to count the post-run weigh-in. That's especially strong.

Cindy: Ah, the carb comfort foods. I understand: for me it's illness, stress, boredom. Love the carbs. I have to confess that my Jillian workout/eating plan scares me! But June is the easiest month for me to shake up my workouts and eating, as DOOD will be gone. (It's amazing how much my routines fall by the wayside in mid-May, when he's around all the time. Underfoot, like my cats. :rotfl2:)

Hey! I guess I didn't realize you had a tri coming up. :confused3 Details!!!! (Oh, and woman-up. :thumbsup2)

Vicky: No owing on the emails. :) I'm just glad to hear how things are going. Thanks for the suggestion on the Thai sauces--NOW I read about it. :sad2: (And the sauces is one of the things I love about Thai food.) Star Trek, Abrams, and time travel--LOL! I said the same thing.

About your race, I was almost sure the end of the month was when it was. But it's funny--I keep thinking Memorial Day is the last weekend of May, and so my calendar's been all off for weeks; I'm actually traveling to Stratford next weekend not this one, for example. So I thought I'd check on your race. Good luck on this weekend's LR and, post-race, I'd be interested in hearing how Higdon's plan works for you.

I'm glad to hear the flaxseed's not a hard adjustment with your oatmeal. DOOD and I found the same thing, although we don't put nuts in ours. (Sounds yummy.)

Kim: I just noticed your Goofy ticker. That's fabulous! It sounds like you, Vicky, Dave & Erica will have a great time on the upcoming race! (And beforehand.)

Julie: Great to see you here and back on the bandwagon. No apologies necessary, just good to know you're doing well. And where else would you eat the Magical Lucky charms if not in the World? It's really fitting, don't you think?

As for me: Let's see... No weight loss this week, just a maintain I wish I could say I was surprised. Part of it is the hydration issue--I've been really bad about water again. So that's a priority today and we'll see if I can adjust my eating this weekend. Wednesday's Thai food went fairly well--much better than the films. I ate a Pineapple Tofu salad, or 1/2 of it, with a lime dressing. It was good, but very salty, and it meant no rice. We were supposed to have fresh spring rolls, but they brought out fried and I was too weak to resist.

I did take a rest day yesterday, and my knee feels better. :thumbsup2 I walked about 4 miles yesterday--had to go to the main library--but not hard or fast, and that felt good. At the library, btw, I picked up two things:

1) Free passes to an advance screening of Disney/Pixar's Up, which shows next weekend. Yay for free movies & a packed, excited audience!

2) Skinny *itch, which has received a lot of buzz for promoting its vegan lifestyle and its attitude. Well, you know how I love my drill-sergeant mantras and snarkiness? I put the book down after 20 pages. Too much, too much. It wasn't telling me anything I didn't know, and I didn't like its tone and its use of profanity as central to its cleverness. (And believe me, I'm not opposed to profanity). So, there's my 2-cent review of the book.

Hey gang just popping in to say HI!!!!!!

Debra: Glad your knee is doing better!!!!

Beth: Good luck on your weight in!!!!!

AFM: Weightloss just doesn't seem to be happening, believe it or not I don't think I am eatting enough. I am going to tweek it a bit for next week and up the workouts and see how that goes.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND to my friends south of the boarder!!!!

Hi Everyone!

I'm short on time this afternoon, so just a quick catch-up post.

Kim -- It's so great to see you posting here! Wow, you're goin' Goofy! I am impressed! :worship:

Debra -- How's that water coming? While I was out and about for work today, I stopped into CVS and bought a bottle of water. I never do that, but I was really thirsty, and I'm really glad I drank the good stuff. :goodvibes

Julie -- You almost make me want to eat Lucky Charms, and I don't find them magically delicious! I'm a sucker for Honeycomb, though...

Beth -- Enjoy your weekend w/o baseball! I hope you have plenty of time for you :thumbsup2

Vicky -- J. J. Abrams is the prince of time travel, which is fine by me popcorn::

Cindy -- I did watch the BL finale, and I was also rooting for Tara. I was disappointed that Helen would stay and send her daughter home, but I can't deny her success. I just can't imagine ever making that choice as a mother :confused3 How was the Friendly Toast? I agree, it is not easy to find something you should eat on the menu. I'm considering it a special occasion place. I can't imagine we would visit very often. :) I hope you are feeling better.

I was very disappointed to find I've gained a pound this week. I did all my workouts, and only had the one clam plate incident. I've decided to implement Beth's no diet soda strategy this week and see what happens. I am annoyed at going the wrong way for my milestone goal. Now I'm telling myself if I make it before we leave on June 18th, that's almost as good as making it by my birthday on the 8th. At this point, doing it in June will be huge, so I'm going to celebrate whenever it happens. I just know if it doesn't happen before our trip, it certainly won't be there when we return :sad2:

Everyone in the U.S. have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! And I hope the folks north of the border (that's Kim and Vicky, I believe) have a great time as well!

Maria :upsidedow

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday AND Tuesday Mixer :stitch:

Stop on by the 'Ohana team thread, where the mixer starts here!

I know this weekend is a vacation weekend for many of us, so we'll be running the mixer tomorrow (Monday) and Tuesday. This mixer question is a ringer, folks, but hopefully still fun:

What did you do for Memorial Day/Weekend?

Provide us with plenty of details & hopefully photos of your activities, gatherings, celebrations and how you observe the day (and spirit) of Memorial Day. :thumbsup2

Hey Lean Meaners!

I hope you're having a great weekend. DH completed a Half Marathon yesterday, mowed the lawn, weeded and poisoned, took ds to see "Night at the Museum" -- he had quite a day. I laid around and read books. And that pretty much sums up my response to his healthy activity...

Saturday we went to the Half expo, went toiletry shopping for our upcoming vacation, and I laid around and read books. I think I was just exhausted from my week, and I didn't have any energy. Saturday was supposed to be a rest day, yesterday I was supposed to run 4 miles. I didn't even put in my contacts yesterday, so I really couldn't see all that well -- well enough to read but that's about it. My eyes have been giving me trouble, so I decided they really needed a rest day. They actually feel pretty good today with the contacts, so that might not have been my worst decision ever. Unlike what I ate yesterday -- trust me, this was not pretty. I'm having a vitamuffin top and tea for breakfast, then a salmon burger and corn on the cob for lunch, that will get me started on the right track.

I'm supposed to walk 4 miles today, I plan to do that much later when it cools off for the evening. Then tomorrow morning I will pop up and do my 4mi, with yoga later in the day. I wish the pesky work would just go away, I know that's what got me off track...

Maria :upsidedow

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I wish us Canucks could have the day off too :) DF ended up with a ton of Oreo cookie bags in his house this weekend! They're not for us so they'll eventually be gone but man are they ever hard to resist. I put them into grocery bags so I wouldn't have to look at them.

Maria - Sounds like you had a very relaxing Saturday! Wow - I'm impressed that your DH was able to fit all of that into one day. How did he like Night at the Museum?

Debra - The 1/2 is on May 31, not sure if you'll be around Toronto then but you can find the directions to the race here: http://www.towomenshalf.com/info.html#getting I can give you more specific directions if I know which direction you're coming from. Lucky you for getting passes to Up :) I can't wait to see that movie!

AFM - I will be off to the gym tonight. I'm hoping to do a more cardio based workout as I read that it's not good to do too much weight training the week of a race.

Have a great day everyone!

I sort of forgot that this is Monday! I am still on the weekend thing right now.

Maria: I hear ya on a restful weekend.....I almost lost my fitness/workout streak yesterday. I was up for a rest day, but around 8 pm I started feeling guilty. So, I ended up on the TM for 45 min for 3.5 miles.

Vicky: Memorial Day should be shared by all! Sorry that you are not off today.

AFM: I have been maintaining my loss......but haven't added to it. I didn't count my loss last week, since it was after my 5 miler.

Eating went ok, but I have to get back to the no process food. I ate some things yesterday 'off plan' and didn't feel good last night. Nothing terribly bad for you, but really felt bad with the processed food.

Water intake was really good......just because I am still off the diet Coke. Doesn't give you much of a choice on drinks when you don't drink soda.:confused:

Beth

Debra....sorry I didn't see this before. If you are in Toronto for the weekend and want to do the race, I have at least 2 extra bibs. Liz and Stacey aren't coming after all but have paid and I am picking up there stuff but they don't need the bibs if you want one.

KIm

I hope everyone had a fantastic Memorial Weekend! Ours was very low-key, as we head out tomorrow, early a.m. (flight time: 7.30 a.m.) for a five-day weekend in Stratford, Ontario. We're going to see some theater! We're flying into Detroit, then renting a car and driving over, and flying out on Sunday, so we won't be able to swing by Toronto & watch our WISHers! :sad1: If we'd known when we made our reservations--months ago--we would have altered our plans. Next time! :thumbsup2

Maria: Thanks for asking about the water. I have a good day, then a not-so-good day and I end up chugging water at the end of the day. Which, as you might guess, interrupts my sleep pattern. :rotfl2: I need to do what you did, and buy water if I'm out and going to buy a little liquid refreshment. But I so love my caffeine and sweet drinks. I mentioned this on 'Ohana, but I'll be watching both you and Beth with the diet soda. (And I should be following Vicky's example, too, and drinking green tea.)

So, your assessment of Night in the Museum? It was #1 in the box office, and everyone I saw seemed very happy when they exited... Congrats to DH on his race, and congrats to you on having an enjoyable weekend. DOOD and I had a reading day on Monday, and that's exactly what he needed to recharge himself. You two are on the same page, I think. (SO sorry about the pun.)

Now, the next question is, are you back on track with your mileage? Or just back on the track, period. (SO sorry...again.)

Vicky: Have you heard about the Trader Joe's version of Oreo-s? They're one of my personal nemeses. We can't make it to Toronto, unfortunately. We have to drive back to Detroit and our flight home to Pittsburgh isn't direct. Have a great time with your race--as if there was any doubt.

Beth: WTG with maintaining your loss over this holiday weekend. For me, Memorial Weekend always makes me think of picnics and grilling and big food occasions. So "you done good!" Better than good, as a matter of fact.
And to stay away from the Diet Coke. Yay!

Kim: THANK you so much for the kind offer. You just made me smile. If I could find a way to get up their for the race, I would. Even if it meant I'd be a DLF. :goodvibes

As for me: Looks like I lost 1/2 pound this weekend. No guarantees on this weekend, as 1) it's more than a weekend, 2) we're away from our gym and traveling, and 3) we're staying at a B&B with gourmet (so the website says) food. I'll try to be good, and have packed my running gear and some DVDS for my computer. Send me PD for airport food eating, as we'll be in airports or flying through breakfast and lunch.

We're also seeing an advance screening of Up tonight, so I'll try to give a quick post tonight before I turn in. (I need to be up at 5.15 a.m., though, so no promises.) I'm really looking forward to it.

In the good AND sad news category...DOOD and I are doing Baltimore. He really wants to do the challenging course, the airfare is cheaper, the timing just a bit better, etc. :sad1: I'm okay with doing Baltimore, as it was at the top of my list, but I really like what I hear about the Toronto race and love the city. Then there's the people.... :cheer2: And in small irritations. (I'm about to be petty, so be forewarned.) Part of the reason we chose Baltimore was the calendar, right? So what does DOOD tell me AFTER we've signed up for Baltimore? He's considering doing an ultra with friends in September, before Baltimore. In the month he said wasn't "as good" for him as Baltimore's October race. True, it's not the same weekend as Toronto, but still... I think I caught him in one of those little white lies; DOOD wants to go to Baltimore and so the scheduling works out better for Baltimore. Oh, well, I've never been to Baltimore and it's supposed to be fabulous.

ETA: Just got back from Up. It's well worth seeing, one of the best films I've seen this year. DOOD calls it codger-rific. I'll see if I can squeeze out more time for a review later.

Hello Lean Meaners.

Debra: Safe travels today. Enjoy your trip. Thanks for the review of UP. I hope to bring the kids to see it, just need to make sure the 4 year olds won’t be terrorized by anything. Sorry that DOOD seems to have been sneaky about his reasons for doing Baltimore. I think many of the Bots are planning to do that one, so there should be a good WISH showing. I’m glad to hear your review of Skinny *itch. I was put off by the name originally, but thought it might be worth the read. Now I know I can skip it. I am signed up for a Triathlon in July. It’s ½ mile swim in the lake, 10 mile hilly bike ride and 3 mile run ½ of which is on a hilly trail. It’s in the town I live in which helps in that I can train on the course. I have always wanted to do this race, but it always falls on the week we are away on vacation. This year we’re scaling back the vacation since money is so tight, so we’ll be around that day. I’ve started swimming and biking to get ready for the race, though I really feel it’s cutting into my run time. I think I have to be a little better at scheduling my workouts so I don’t keep missing my runs.

Beth: I can’t believe you were able to resist working out until 8 PM. Are you glad you maintained your streak, or sorry you didn’t give yourself some rest? It’s great that you are still off the Diet Coke. Even better that you are drinking plenty of water.

Vicky: Continued success in resisting the Oreos. You’re a strong woman. Enjoy your taper week. I joined a gym that has a pool. I’m hoping to be able to take some of the classes too, but I think it will be hard juggling the child care. Maybe once in a while.

Maria: Sounds like you had a great relaxing day of reading. You deserved it. Have you gotten back on track now? I had a terrific meal at the Friendly Toast. I did get an egg white omelet and I had planned to eat a few of the hash browns. It also came with delicious toast which I hadn’t planned on. I ended up eating more of the hash browns than I should have and only ½ of the toast, but boy was it good. One of my friends got the Almond Joy pancakes and couldn’t finish them, so I did have a couple bites of that. Man was that delicious. Definitely a special treat place.

Kim: I hope changing up your eating will help with the weight loss this week. Good luck with your race.

Julie: Welcome back. Yum, donuts!! Did you run Run to Remember this weekend?

I am over my cold. I did manage my 5 AM swim last week and it went pretty well. I swam ½ mile which is the length of the swim portion in my race and still had time to shower and make it to work on time. My friend met me at the pool yesterday and had me do a lot of drills to improve my form. I didn’t get any running or biking in over the weekend because we were busy with yard work. I got lots of exercise shoveling mulch and pulling up sod.

I have really enjoyed reading Jillian’s new book. I ordered my own copy of it since I’ll have to return the one I have to the library. It has made grocery shopping much more stressful since I’m trying to buy foods that are healthy but not fattening. I guess I should just stick to the veggies and I’d be OK, but a girl can’t live on veggies alone. Well, at least this girl can’t . I’m going to slowly eliminate the chemical filled processed foods from our pantry and make a switch to more all-natural. I bought some all natural cookies and crackers for my kids. I sure hope they’ll eat them. I tried to buy stuff that was on sale, but it still was very expensive.

I have a 5.2 mile race scheduled for tomorrow night. Unfortunately it’s supposed to be cold and rainy. I guess I’ll just have to run faster to get back to my warm dry car. There’s supposed to be an all you can eat BBQ afterwards, but I don’t think I’ll stick around for very long if I’m cold and wet.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Hi Lean Meaners,

Debra - Have a fun trip. I can't wait to hear all about it. :goodvibes

Beth - I'm impressed that you're able to stay off the Diet Coke. I'm addicted to regular Coke and I don't think I could ever give it up.

Vicki - Are the Oreos still in the house? I would have a very hard time resisting those. :upsidedow

Maria - What a great weekend of reading! I would love to be able to do that sometime. :thumbsup2

Cindy - I am so impressed that you got in a swim before work. :worship: I don't know if I could be that motivated. Good luck with your race. I hope the weather is ok - hopefully the forecast of rain is wrong. Yes, I did the Run to Remember this weekend. It was kind of a last minute decision, but I'm glad I did it.

Have a lean, mean week, everyone!

Julie: When I was little, I had a BAD Coke habit.....I used to sneak it to my room to drink in 'private'!!! :scared1: I moved on to Tab when I was a freshman in college, then it went to diet Coke and I never looked back! I know the pain!

Debra: I hope you are having a good time in Canada!

AFM: I am still happy with things in my neck of the woods......eating going well, and exercise is maintained. I am down into new numbers, and feeling strong. No real aches or pains right now, and the streak is alive and kicking! (have to say, not sure if the streak is a very good idea.....but my kids think it's great!)

I know Jeanne is headed off to the World for vacation (with Nancy) and I hope they have an awesome time!!!!

Good for you, Beth! :cheer2::cheer2:

Debra, I did the Baltimore marathon and would do it again -- just because of the proximity to me. Yep, it's hilly, but not horrible. They've changed the course (I'm pretty sure) since the last time I did it, though. I'd never been to Baltimore, and I really enjoyed the "walking tour" -- the harbor, the row houses, the park, the churches. If you get a chance, I took the pre-race tour and it happened that the fellow conducting it actually worked for one of the Baltimore tour groups and told us all sorts of interesting things about the places we were passing. I'll also say there were literally police on every corner the year I did it -- I have NEVER seen another marathon supported in that way. I'll admit not ALL of the city is scenic (what urban area is) but again, with the police coverage I felt very safe.

I actually have a race report with photos around here somewhere. I'll look for it later.

As for me... I have been walking 2 miles a day -- and pretty slowly -- for the last week. However, that I've managed that is a huge improvement over the limping, achy struggle I've had for the past 6 months or so. I am also canvassing my church for anyone to meet me to cycle the local rail-trail. I don't know if it will pan out, but I've gotten some initial interest. With the months of inactivity, I've headed in the wrong direction weight-wise, but again, this week I've lost 3 pounds. I'll take that step in the right direction and try to go with it.

I miss racing so much. I've miss walking regularly so much. And I miss having something positive to chat about on the WISH boards so much. I'm sorry I haven't been the good WISHer I should have been, but... well, I'm sorry. Hopefully I'm smart enough this time not to increase my mileage/speed too quickly and I'll continue to improve.

Good day, Leaner Meaners!

Can't find the Baltimore Marathon race report, but here are some photos from the year I did it. (Forgive me for littering the list with these, but someone else may consider this race at some point too.)

Good Morning, Lean Mean Brigade!

I'd like to say I'm keeping in touch, but the truth is I'm avoiding getting back on the TM. I don't know why -- I've just basically taken a week off from working out and eating right, and I have to --oh, yeah, that's why. After the workout comes my weigh-in...It's not going to be pretty, I have been totally, completely off plan in so many ways. How much weight can a person gain in one week? I think we're about to find out. :scared1:

Wendy -- :grouphug: Oh my goodness, you sound like you've had a much harder and longer down time than I have -- and also not self-inflicted :rolleyes1 It sounds like you are getting back into things at a good pace, listening to your body, and feeling better all around. We have missed you, and even when you don't have something good to report (that happens to me about every 3 weeks...), please chat with us! :thumbsup2

Beth -- Kudos to you for giving up the soda. I tried, but I'm about to try harder. I love diet A&W rootbeer, to me it's like a dessert, so I'd been limiting myself to one a day. I had two this week, which is an improvement, but I want to completely go without until we head to Orlando June 18th. We shall see! ;)

Julie -- My weekend of sloth was the beginning of a very bad workout/eating week. Just nothing good happened. I am recommitted to getting there. I'm actually having a mental health day today. I just can't face the crazy, and this is my last and only real chance to have a day off before we leave, so I threw caution to the wind and I'm taking it. I'm using today to get myself back into exercising (note: I realize that means I have to stop typing and move at some point) and eating right. I'm also committing to recording at WWonline this week. I pay for it, I really should use it. When I do it helps, for some reason it's easy for me to ignore when I get overwhelmed. ::yes::

Cindy -- Jillian's new book is next on my list! It seems to be helping everyone so much. I, too, was shocked at the size of the "toast". I ate half a piece, and still felt pretty guilty. I didn't realize it was going to be a slab of bread. I even got "wheat", thinking that would be a better choice, but after I saw the size of it, I doubt it! :lmao:

Debra -- I promise to finish the month strong. I had 3 weeks where I hit every planned workout, and then it all fell apart this week. So, I will have a decent amount of mileage (for me). DS gave "Night at the Museum" two :thumbsup2 I hope you are having a wonderful time in Canada! I can't wait to hear all your tales of adventure pirate:

Vicky -- DH paid the price for all his activity on Monday evening, when he started sweating profusely and just collapsed (not literally, I mean he ran out of energy). And he only made it back to the gym last night. He did over do it, he should have rested after the Half. My advice, however, fell on deaf ears. Perhaps he will listen to me next time. :rolleyes1

Kim -- I hope you have a great race this weekend! :cheer2:

I know Jeanne and Nancy are wreaking havoc on WDW, so I hope they remember the stories so we can live vicariously! :dance3:

Ok, I've put this off as long as I can. I'm going to workout before I do my Team Ohana post, so I have something to look forward to when I'm done. I know, I am weird.

Everyone have an awesome weekend and a let's get ready for a new month!

Maria :upsidedow

Quick post here, as I had to be on the forum to update team rosters and couldn't not post to you! I'm post-run and before breakfast at the Riverwalk B&B in Stratford. I'll try to catch up later today, if possible, between our warehouse tours and things. By the way, staying at a B&B is not a good way to remain a light eating lifestyle, although everything is fresh and tasty. So you're my reminder to be accountable before I head down, smell the coffee and croissants, and forget all my good intentions. :rotfl2:

Vicky & Kim (and all participants): I hope your race in Toronto is warm and sunny. It's been rainy since I've been here, and I've been thinking about you. The sun looks like it wants to shine today, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks, Wendy, for the information; I'll read it carefully. You always manage to fine the raves in each run/race! It fits with your overall positive attitude, even in the face of pain and other adversity. for all you're going through. And know I admire you.

Beth, Cindy, Julie, Maria: Keep staying strong and motivated. I've got stuff to say to each of you, just out of time, so please don't feel ignored!
