Wegmans market?

Absolutely love Wegmans! We live only 2 miles from Tops, but instead choose to drive about 10 to shop at Wegmans!
You will love the selections of EVERYTHING they have to offer! The store is simply amazing! Ours usually has food demonstrations all weekend long - free samples for new products and new recipes...it is a great way t otry something beofre making/buying it.
Enjoy shopping at a wonderful place!!!

There's a Wegmans about 1 mile from me getting ready to open on June 4. It is HUGE! I looks like there is a restaurant/cafe built into it too. I can't wait to check it out. I really like my Giant Eagle seafood selection though. We'll see how Wegman's stand up to it.

They do have prepared food and a chinese buffet with seating. The newest one near me has a seafood bar too. So, kind of like a cafe. There are walk up counters to get pizza, sandwiches, coffee, etc. I know someone who has gone there just for dinner with his wife. The chinese food smells wonderful.

They all also do cooking demos and wine tastings.

I didn't read all of the other responses, so I may be repeating. I absolutely LOVE Wegmans!!!:lovestruc It is my favorite supermarket.

Price wise, they are great on some items;
Bananas, milk (sometimes even lower than Costco), baby carrots & coleslaw mix. They have a whole list of "consistently low prices" items.

Boneless skinless chicken breast is always $1.99lb in the bulk or family packaging. I love their NY Strip Steaks (had them last night). And I like how their meats are vacuum sealed and have a longer refrigerator life, so I can shop on Monday, and cook the steak on Thursday, and it is still good & didn't need to be frozen in between.

Their Produce department is the BEST I have ever seen. Always good quality, mostly reasonably priced. If you are looking for an unusual produce item, they will most likely have it there. Daily staples can be found in family or club packs priced really well (english cukes, on the vine tomatoes, bagged apples etc.)

They have a separate area for organic items. They have international specialty items I have not seen in any other store. They have a gourmet cheese counter with unusual selections that are great for parties. They have a variety of dips & spreads. Their bakery items are beautiful, though not necessarily budget! And if you check their website they have some great recipes....Carribean black bean soup & pasta fagioli with spinach are 2 of my go to winter soups!

And I have not bought a single "Wegman's" branded item that I didn't like.

They accept & double manufacturers coupons Up to $.99, and I have done very well there price wise.

Check it out when they open. If you are a careful shopper, you can do really well in Wegmans, even on a budget!

Have you not seen this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqEUYzOpvZ0
Alec Baldwin on Letterman talking about his mother & Wegman's.

Wegman's then did commercials with Alec Baldwin and his mom - I think someone mentioned that - around Christmas time.

Ha! I had not seen that before, it's great!

Now I'm super jealous of all of you that have Wegman's, pout. Whenever we head out of Syracuse we stop to get subs for the drive home so we won't have to eat at a crappy place on the throughway, they soooo good! The bread selecetion is unlike anything I've been able to find in Ohio, just amazing.

Actually I used to drive to Hunt Valley (near Baltimore) but I always went to Sterling when I went over there for business meetings - my home office is 5 mins. from Wegman's in Sterling. Now we have the nice new one in PG County, so I'm happy. It's not CLOSE, but it's close ENOUGH. :goodvibes

I guessed where you were from your description. I never made it to Hunt Valley but will be going to the newer one which is closer for me.

I am a loyal Wegmans shopper!

And I totally agree with a PP who chimed in about their "consistent low prices." It's true. You won't see huge discounts on items because they price them lower to begin with. Milk there is cheaper than Aldi's!

Their produce and meats are fantastic! And I loooooooooooooove the mediterranian bar! DH had a favorite dip that they discontinued until summertime. He talked to the cheese shop employee who suggested a few others he might like. She then handed him a whole container of a suggested dip and crossed off the UPC and marked it n/c with her initials so he could try it to see if he liked it! (It was prepacked.) Now THAT's customer service!!!

There's one in Fairfax so why would you drive to Woodbridge? My DS lives in Burke and goes to the Fairfax one now that it's open. He used to go to Woodbridge and occasionally does if he's down at Potomac Mills for something.

Woodbridge is actually closer for us. We are close to Lorton. Besides, the Wegman's in Fairfax is crazy! :scared1: The one in Woodbridge is much calmer.

I am also from Rochester, where Wegmans originated from. Wegmans is all I have ever known. You will love Wegmans. You will never want to shop anywhere else! I have been to other grocery stores in other parts of the U.S. and NOTHING compares to Wegmans! Great food, great prices, great customer service. And I love their fruit tarts also, as another PP mentioned! Just had one last night! :lovestruc

Enjoy your new Wegmans!!

Wow! Hello to all my Rochester neighbors!! Most of you Wegmans lovers have already said what I was going to. You will LOVE it! I can get in car and within 3-6 minutes visit 3 of them - spoiled...:)

They also have a very good pharmacy - free antibiotics. It is def. a one-stop shopping experience.

I use to be an assistant bakery manager in a smaller store before the SuperStore when in next door - 1983... it's a great place to work for also.

here's another video with Alec and his mom (at the end).

Happy shopping!!

Their restaurant is great. Even if you get the $6 meals, which have to be heated, they have a microwave upstairs to use. Super friendly and everything there for 1 stop.

By the way, Condeleezza Rice has shopped at ours.

Wegman's is my one and only!:thumbsup2
There's really only one other chain of grocery stores near me, and if I happen to run into one to grab a quick item, I am always astounded by how much cheaper things are at Wegman's!
DD is in Texas and misses Wegman's almost as much as her family in NY! ;)

Another thought on Wegmans. When I shop there, I can have a nice, upscale, restaurant quality meal at home for a fraction of the price.

Sign up for their magazine. It's free to subscribe, but costs $4 if you buy in store. It has coupons, seasonal recipies, and great ideas. I made their Thai chicken dumpling soup with a prepared cheese tray for an appetizer ($6 for three types of gourmet cheese, and it came with crackers and dried fruit) one night. It was cheaper than a family restaurant meal and we had several meals left over from the soup.

I just got home about an hour ago from Wegman's in Sterling/Ashburn, VA. It was packed and getting out of that shopping center is the only thing I don't like about it. I think the nice weather got a lot of people out. We're grilling out tonight and I'm thinking others had the same idea. I'm there every Friday so I can tell if it's more crowded than normal.

I wish the owners of Wegmans would build one in my state!! I emailed them years ago, not sure if they ever will. I don't understand the surrounding states have them not sure why not Delaware :confused3 but like I said in a previous post I do drive the 20 minutes to go because its that good :thumbsup2

OP - I wonder if you are near me, they are opening one here in the fall too (Northboro, MA) I go to the YMCA across the street and I can't wait! My SIL lives in Rochester and I'm always hearing about Wegmans and how great of a store it is.

Thanks for all the love for Wegmans! I am super excited now. Especially if Alec Baldwin's mother loves it so much. : ) I am not a huge coupon shopper and we rarely eat processed food (eggo's and cheezits and goldfish are about it). So I would rather spend a bit more for good quality produce and deli meats. If I want to stock up, I go to Market Basket where everything is crazy cheap. I buy our week to week stuff at the store with the best produce. We eat so much fruit and veggies in a week.

I was talking about the Northboror store although it will be 30-40 minutes for me to get there. Once I find it. : ) But if it's that fabulous I'll make the drive.

Us too, well actually DW, drive to Woodbridge from Springfield/Lorton. Can't wait for the new one to open near Ft. Belvoir.

You know, it's funny, I grew up near Scranton, PA and there has been a Wegman's there for quite some time. I remember people use to complain about their prices, but now that we shop at one here in VA, we've actually found them to be quite a bit cheaper than the Safeways and Giants we have around here.

We also love the fact that all Wegman's brand products have alergens listed right on the front, since DD has Celiac Disease. Also, their non-Wegman's Gluten-Free products are so much cheaper than any other store, and better selection.

Lastly, if there are any Penn Stater's reading this, they sell stickies in the store (Actual one's from the Diner)!

OMG!!! Stickies!!! We live in Rochester and I only shop at Wegman's. Dear friends are from State College and we've been going to the diner for stickies for the past 34 years.

Another Weggies lover here! I agree with all the pp's. Wegman's simply makes my life easier, they keep thier prices low on the "basics", produce is fabulous. They are eco, health, community friendly. Mine has a child watch! They bring in the best 'trends". Sponsored a whole exhibit at our local children's musuem (the Strong in Rochester, NY). They are known to be a wonderful employer. Everything you would want in a grocery store and a company Wegman's is.

Pam

Yet another HUGE Wegmans fan here!!! I am a huge Wegmans snob, will only do my shopping there. I also maybe just a tad biased as I worked there in college and my little sister works there now. Not only is it a great place to shop they are AMAZING to work for. I lived in Florida for two years and the only thing I missed about Syracuse was Wegmans, I could not stand any stores down there.
