Wegmans market?

We Are!

DW and I both graduated from Penn State in the mid 90's, so getting stickies down here brings back so many memories. We used to stop at a Weis in Hershey to get them, when we were passing through PA (Family still lives up there.), but now we don't have to. :)

I never noticed stickies in my Wegman's and I'm in PA! What section do they have them in? My Giant always has them, but I'll have to check Wegman's again!

It's a Penn State thing! At PSU there is a diner that's been there forever and makes these sticky "buns", but they are made as a loaf and cut into "sticks". When they serve them they grill them in oil and butter. So, picture a sticky bun grilled. :cloud9: At the diner, they serve them with most of there breakfast platters or with ice cream as desert. The diner was open 24Hrs, so they were the best thing at 3:00 AM after a night at the bars or fraternity parties! :) Oh those were the days!

We still go for stickies every time we are in State College. We were up there for a wedding last summer and went to the diner around 1am for stickies. It was just like old times!

Just reading this, I can't wait for Wegmans to come to this area!!! I am thrilled! even though I have never stepped foot in one :rotfl:

I will travel the distance to check it out for sure!

Sorry, I hate Wegman's. I find the store difficult to navigate and their food very pricey. If you like all that specialty stuff, it's great. But I can't afford to shop there. I do occasionally go because they gave some different gluten free things than my regular store.

But I have heard they have great prices, so maybe it's just the new fancy store by me, in a brand new upscale shopping area, kwim?

So check it out, but know your prices. The Giant by me is much better (but only my Giant....others in the area have higher prices!) plus, they have gas points which saves me even more. Last period, I was able to get $1.30/gallon, but the 5 percent off certificates are even better when they offer those.

I think they usually have them in the bread section. I don't think they always have them. We used to stop at a Weis in Hershey (when passing through) to get them, but I know DW has found them in Wegman's often.

That's the only decent time to go to the Diner, in the middle of the night with a strong buzz! :goodvibes

I think you're right that the prices are relative. We don't find their prices to be bad at all compared to the other stores we have here (Safeway, Giant of MD, and Harris Teeter), however where I grew up (outside of Scranton, PA) people used to always say how expensive they were.

Giant might actually be a little bit cheaper, but we don't really care for the Giants here. We go for a few items because it's the closest store to us, but there generics aren't very good.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Wegman's. Their prices on the everyday stuff is not bad at all. If you buy their specialty stuff, be prepared to spend extra. But that's what I really like about their store. They carry it all. Their house brand is very well priced, and the quality is second to none.

Last week was "my" Wegman's 5th birthday. They had a huge cake that they gave away to customers, free balloons and face painting for the kids, free drinks, and a live band. It was hectic, but quite a lot of fun.

I made my first ever visit to a Wegman's today! It could be a serious budget buster store. So much to choose from! Today I made it out alive after spending $50.

You must have exercised GREAT restraint! LOL.

I can't wait to come home and check it out!

Too funny! I find Wegmans is really cheap and spend $10-$20 a couple times a week (to use the free item coupon). They double .75 coupons and I love their "about to expire" meat. It's even cheaper than Redners (bare bones store near me) for most of the staples. I :lovestruc Wegmans! We call it our home away from home. Sad, really, lol!

In my area Wegmans is cheaper than Aldis...

I live 2 minutes from Wegmans and have shopped there my whole life. Aldi's is across the street and I shop there too.
It's not that the store is more ridiculously expensive, it's just that their presentation of the food that is more expensive is so good you can't resist. That and they carry a bunch of other non food stuff you just have to look at. And buy.

So.....what I usually do is go to Wegmans after Aldi's on a full stomach.

I don't buy our meat at either store, but at a local butcher and save about 50% there. Wegmans meat is excellent, but really high priced unless you're buying ready to expire discounted or there is a sale. Over the past few years, they've cut their loss leaders down to milk and bread and possibly their name brand stuff, so meat doesn't fluctuate all that much week to week. A jar of Hellmans mayo was $4.59 the other day. Store brand was $1.99.
dh will only eat certain name brands of things, drives me nuts, otherwise I would buy most everything at Aldi's. Here Aldi's is about 40% less across the board.

I'm born and raised in Rochester, NY, where Wegman's started. Our extended family has had a love affair with Wegman's for 50 years or so. They've always been innovators, even in the '60s.

It wasn't until I moved away that I learned not all grocery stores are as great as Wegman's. Now SW of Pittsburgh, I am out of reach. I would have to drive to Erie or Harrisburg, over 3 hours each. There's some days I'm tempted. But I can usually control myself until I go back to Rochester for a family visit.

I think you need to check their prices a little closer. Especially things marked "everyday low prices". Once you make it past the prepared foods area, everything is really well priced! They sell the most beautiful boneless chicken breasts for $1.99 a pound all the time! I won't buy them any where else.

Too funny, I am near the new Wegmans too ( we go to the Y almost across the street) and we are returning home from Disney on the 16th. I joked with DH about stopping there on the way home from the airport!

At a school fund raising meeting yesterday, the coordinator joked about her husband wanting a 5 course meal and she didn't have time with all that's going on. I told her take-out. She said "Wegmans!". Their "restaurant" is so good we go there about once a month.

Sadly, they are the largest (and best) grocery store in our school area but they refuse to help us with fund raising. They won't donate food, gift cards, sponsorships, nothing. It makes me mad that, my guess, 50% of the student's parents shop there but they won't support us back.

I am a Wegman's convert! They opened one about a mile from my house in June. I have shopped there ever since. I actually spend way less money there than I did at the other grocery stores. Not necessarily because their prices are cheaper (although they usually are), but because the place is so huge I only go in there and get what is on my list. I don't go in every aisle if I don't need to. I'd say I spend less that $50 per week for the three of us. Its usually around $35-$40.

Our Wegman's opened up in June. We LOVE it! We drive about 25 minutes to get to it, and often choose that over the store that is 5 minutes away. The prepared food section is great. It has a huge variety. We often go there for dinner before shopping:thumbsup2

Join their club. They have certain coupons good for each week, and they usually have coupons for 2 free items, if you spend $10. Much of their selection is cheaper than other stores. Milk, for example, is $2.50/gallon. We spend about $3.79 at the store near us. We really like the Wegman's brand. My kids swear that the Wegman's mac n cheese is better than Kraft! My oldest has Asperger's, and has always been a very picky eater. I made chicken last night that was marinaded in Wegman's brand marinade. Ds would have never tried new food before, but telling him it was now Wegman's food made him try it (and love it!).

It's so fun to find a grocery store that my entire family can't wait to go to! The rest of my family gets upset if I ever go shopping there without them!

Their prepared foods can be pricey (and it seems like they are selling more and more value-added foods such as chopped vegetables and ready-to go whatever) but you can find a lot of their prepared foods recipes on their website. The soup recipes are especially good but I've had success with most that I have tried.

I like WEgmans, but avoid the prepared foods whenever I go there are it really adds to the total of the grocery bill. It is not worth the 30 miles each way for us to shop there when we can buy virtually the same things at the same price in our choice of 3 other grocery stores. If you want something that is specialty, then by all means go there. They do have nice meat. If I do happen to stop at Wegmans when we are driving by, I really have to limit myself on what I pick up or I would end up spending way too much.
