planning for our Christmas 2008 visit to WDW, i called MS to reserve the week after Thanksgiving (11/30-12/6) on friday. this would have been 1/11 - 5 days after the earliest that i could have called to make our ressies. amazingly - or perhaps not??? - all BWV standard view studios and all BWV boardwalk view studios were already booked solid for that week. so we took preferred/garden view and got on the waitlist for BW view...

knew that this was a popular time for DVC...but was surprised that NOTHING was available only 5 days into the window...

When I called last January for the first day of a day by day reservation (for 12/1/07), I got busy at work and didn't call until about 2:00pm. The cm said I got the last boardwalk view studio for that night. So day by day is the only way to go for that week for standard or boardwalk view.

We stayed this past T-week and half the next week at BWV in a standard view and I booked it the first day of my available 11 month out window. The resort was definetly filled!!

We're doing the same thing in '08. I made sure I called the first day available and at that time I had my choice of standard, boardwalk or preferred. However we hope to move to VWL at the 7 month mark so we may help your waitlist come through!!

That's what I was going to say, that I'd be surprised if there were still rooms available after the FIRST day they could be booked at 11 months out much less at the 5th day out.

Is this just a busy time for DVC, or are the parks pretty filled up that week as well?

You may want to modify your title - it's misleading to say the "week after thanksgiving full already..."

As you posted, that's true only if you are after a standard or guaranteed Boardwalk view. There is still availability for Pool/Garden view rooms at the BWV and I haven't yet heard that anything else is totally booked for that week.

December 2006 was the first year I haven't gone for a week or so between Thanksgiving and mid-December. The standard and boardwalk views were always gone on the first or second day after the window opened for that time period. Had a similar experience to Debbie B - forgot to call until after lunch one day (instead of 9 am Eastern) and the CM said I was lucky to have gotten the very last 1 bedroom SV available.
