Hi! so quick back story.... my DF had chosen the color Deep purple for our wedding. well last night we found out that 4 our friends and families are/had the color purple for their weddings. sense we are going the theirs and they will be attending ours we have pulled purple out! we decided to go with a Theme.... what theme you may ask, well we dunno yet. :confused3

we would like some help from you all! we are looking for all and any theme ideas.

we will be forever thankful!! :lovestruc
and maybe one day this can help other brides who are thinking of a theme for their wedding.

p.s. i posted this on my thread, but sadly my thread isn't as popular as many others, but we would like all the help we can get.

You should post a link in your signature to your planning journal, that way more people can read it :) Themes, hmmmm. That's always difficult, isn't it? Maybe an under the sea theme, or an old hollywood theme? What is special to you and your husband to be?

hmm, i had it posted, but it didnt show for some reason. thanks for the tip. :)

we both like football and baseball, love disney, and traveling. life has us apart for the next 5 months so we txt and talk on the phone alot. so we like to chat about places we would rather be, than on the phone in separate states. (if money were no object) :cloud9:

You could do a baseball theme that is still fun and elegant. You could do a "around the world" theme.

You can find ways to incorporate baseball and football into your wedding without it being all out sports. We're huge Patriots fans, but my idea of a Patriots wedding was veto'ed by the fam. So I've snuck some football things in. On the handle of my bouquet will be a Patriots logo, the cufflinks for the dads and best man are footballs, and we're planning on busting out our jerseys at the reception. :thumbsup2

Our whole wedding has a New England theme - I'm a Massachusettsian, he's from New Hampshire and we live in Maine, so it makes sense. We're using blue hydrangeas and yellow roses. If you ever go to Cape Cod, Massachusetts blue hydrangeas are everywhere! A few of the other things we're adding into the wedding for it to be New Englandy are a Nantucket Basket for the flower girl to throw petals down with, and the table names are the state flowers for New England.

I think themes are great when they're done in moderation and you use subtle accents.

Yeah for sharing ideas! We're trying to come up with a theme, too! Keep the creative ideas coming, ladies! I need all the inspiration I can get :thumbsup2

I would do a travel theme...name each table a country you and ur future hubby want to visit, get a vintage luggage and put everyone's place cards inside, use luggage tags as favors, send Disney passport invites (click on the link), etc. I would do blue/white or black/pink or black/yellow for your color scheme.

I have lots of idea's, I coordinated my friend's wedding, email me if you need more ideas.

I was going to say the same thing! What better theme for a destination wedding, think old maps, or globes, or even an area you really like, the beach, Meg has new England, Europe-(Italy, France).

At any rate, i think the best weddings are those that are personal and meaningful the the bride and groom!

i brought this football/baseball theme up to my DF. he really liked it. mainly because his favorite baseball team, New York Mets. my favorite football team, Denver Broncos. they both have the same colors, Blue and Orange.
so we shall see. :confused3

If it helps, here's a huge thread about colors - some people mention their themes, too:

Im liking this theme as well. very unique and different. DF first words when i told him this one was, Prom all over again. i told him it would be completely opposite and it would be very classy.

Another theme that came to my mind, while i should be working, was "cloud 9":cloud9: white, creams, pinks, purples, yellows, blues. girlie yet romantic, fun but classy. there could be sooo many way it could go. what do you think?

Ours isn't original by any means, but we're having an outdoor ceremony in October and here in NC its' GORGEOUS...so we're doing a Fall theme. The SAVE THE DATE CARDS are fall themed as well. Colors will be, oranges, browns, purples, yellows and red!

Our "kinda" theme is sparkles. Our colors are pool blue and fuchsia with accents of mango. I just put sparkly touches on a lot of our stuff, invitations, menu cards, our tables will have diamond confetti with floating candles and blue floralytes in the water, I'm also getting some sparkly picks to put in my bouquet. It's subtle, but I like it. Although the theme kind of manifested itself into what it is now, it was not something we had planned on.

I like the baseball team, I suggested it to DFi because I saw a cute wedding in a bridal magazine. Each table was named a position on the field and they gave little baseball candies as favors, it was subtle, but cute.

Some other themes we considered, favorite movie (James Bond/Indiana Jones), favorite place (NYC), destination/travel theme.

The travel theme is a cute idea, as is the cloud 9.

Our theme isn't original either...we are doing "Alice in Wonderland" but the Tim Burton version. We will have the whimsy of the original movie but bring in the dark aspect of Tim Burton with colors. You can check out my color scheme below. We are having a signature drink with "Drink Me" signs on them, a mad hatter cake but black and white and hopefully (if our money stretches) a candy bar with signs saying "Eat Me. " My centerpieces are teapots on top of teacups, check out the idea of what I have in mind in the links below.

The cloud 9 idea is cute and actually something I haven't seen before.

My son and future daughter-in-law are getting married Oct 10, 2009. They are Melissa and Michael and what started out as a joke is now a good part of the colour choices - m&m's of course.

She will carry fall flowers wrapped in purple ribbon. The party favours are little jars of - yes - m&m's, the tags will be printed in the m&m font with purple and tied on to the jars with purple ribbon.

A very good friend of mine had an Aladdin theme - A Whole New World. It was wonderful too.

I had a Shabby Chic theme. Lots of pinks and greens. I thought it worked well with the cottage type look of the Attic.

I am loving the travel theme everyone is suggesting! Each table can be a different location. Rome, Paris, etc.!

I'm having a beauty and the beast wedding theme. It is my all time favorite disney movie. We are doing white and gold with red accents. You could do something similar if you have a favorite movie as well. :thumbsup2

the M&M is very cute!! if only my name had and M then we would be all set. :rotfl:

Pink and Green i wonder who had that?? mmmm  lol but im still pushing for the around the idea. bc it sounds fun!

You could do a lot with cloud 9- That's cute

i thought so but i got vetoed! :sad1:

thats an idea, my all time favorite Disney movie.... Cinderella. my poor babysitter had to sit through every time she came over! :rotfl2: i probably scared her for life!

I want to thank you all for such great help with the theme ideas! you gals are jsut plain awesome! :grouphug:
DF and I have talked through alot of them and i like the following:
Wine theme
Typhoon Lagoon Theme (its where we met)
Around the world theme (Epcot was our first date)

He likes:
Alice in wonderland/ Mad hatter theme (mostly bc i think he wants the cake ;))

so hopefully we will decide soon! :yay:

We're doing an Around the "World" theme.

Our menu will highlight our favorite foods from the parks and resorts. We're going to have ambiance music from old attractions and areas. (If DFi can find the music) We're holding our ceremony in Epcot and our reception in etiher Epcot or Hollywood Studios.

we are sort of having the "anti-theme, theme wedding" lol. Our is "No Frills, No Fuss, Just Fun", we are having playful details and not too much traditional wedding stuff. We want our wedding to feel like a huge party, not a super formal event (way more our style:goodvibes)

Good luck, keep us posted.

Oh DF wanted a Red Sox theme but I vetoed it... I love the Sox just as much as he does, but since our wedding is the day after the superbowl, and our rehersal dinner is a pre-game tailgate part I didnt want to OD on sports lol!
